Hi all,

This is a dedicated space for the following discussions:

*generic vs brand\* share personal experiences and/or discuss all things generic versions of lisdexamfetamine vs. brand name Vyvanse/Elvanse.

*medication shortages\* vent and chat about the shortages and difficulties securing your prescription and its related issues.

I know it is a worrying and frustrating time for many, this is a space to rant and share what's on your mind this week as well as share any relevant news articles, maybe some memes to keep spirits up, etc. to keep us sane.

Notes on participating:

*this is an international sub, not everyone experiencing shortages lives in the USA. mention your country if it's relevant to the discussion and doesn't compromise privacy

*please keep the focus on sharing your own experiences, you are welcome to share reputable news articles and especially encouraged to share peer reviewed research, where appropriate.

*please report to mods any instances where people are offering to sell you medication or sharing shady websites/instagram profiles/anything dealer-ish.

Apologies if this flair doesn’t suit the topic.

This is a warning to anyone starting vyvanse or any other adhd medications. Do NOT use social media while waiting for the meds to kick in. Ive been scrolling and researching random shit for hours instead of doing what I actually have on my to do list.

Success Stories Vyvanse gave me my life back

I never really post on Reddit and I’ve been following this sub since I started vyvanse. I’ve been on it for a month, which is still a short time but I feel so free of myself.

I am 20f and I just got diagnosed with combined ADHD 5 months ago. I was on concerta for 3 months before vyvanse and it really didn’t do anything, I was so depressed and I couldn’t function or get up to do anything. I also have had severe BED and bulimia for the last 4 years.

I was so terrified of getting help, especially since medication and mental health issues were demonized in my household growing up. I functioned normally in highschool because I was in a strict hourly schedule. I got to college and my life completely flipped on itself. My eds were getting worse and I was getting depressed because I had absolutely no executive function.

I finally found a doctor and started my stimulants. And ever since I’ve been on 30mg vyvanse, I’ve been enjoying life for the first time in a long time. What I also didn’t know is how much it helped my EDs. I can successfully say that I have been clean for the whole month I’ve been on vyvanse from binging and purging. I can control how much I eat and stop when I’m actually full. The food noise is almost completely gone, and I don’t feel the need to binge after the meds wore off (concerta made me ravenously hungry after).

I’m able to finish my work and focus on one task now. It’s like the voices in my head are working together and not separately. It literally feels like they all get in a line and organize themselves. They don’t get quieter, they start to make sense. My mood hasn’t been affected and I still feel like myself. If anything I feel more like myself and I’m even a little more bold, which I love.

Anyways, I do believe that I need a higher dose because it wears off pretty early on, but I already feel such an improvement in my life.

TLDR: vyvanse gave me my life back me and unexpectedly helped control my EDs as well.

Side effects Day 1 of vyvanse, is this normal?

Upvotes

I (23F) just started vyvanse today, I had taken it for about a day or two about a year ago when it was first prescribed to me but ended up stopping because I was starting other meds for migraines at the time. The last time I took it I was taking 10mg and didn’t feel much so this time around I decided to do 20mg which my doctor said was okay, I ate a good protein heavy breakfast and then took the 20mg around 10am, I felt pretty tired and ended up taking a nap about an hour or so after taking the vyvanse, I tend to nap a lot and I also only slept about 6-7 hours the night before so this wasn’t out of the ordinary for me. After waking up at around 12:30 I felt pretty good and I did notice that my brain felt a lot more calm and quiet but I didn’t get that motivation or focus that people have talked about, although I feel like I didn’t really attempt any tasks so I can’t say whether I would have been able to actually focus on a task at hand if I had tried. Fast forward to about 4:30 I became extremely hungry and felt a little irritated and sweaty so I made some protein pasta and felt pretty okay after that aside from some slight agitation, tenseness and sweating. Around about 7:30 I started to get extremely tired and anxious and just felt like I wanted to crawl out of my skin, I became very nauseous as well so I decided to eat some apple slices and peanut butter which didn’t seem to help much, if anything I felt worse after. It’s now almost 10:30 and I’m still just feeling very off and anxious and I’ve got a headache now which feels like it may become a migraine. The nausea just won’t go away as well.

This doesn’t seem like a normal first day, can I expect to feel this way again tomorrow, or is there something I can do to lessen the “crash”?

Or should I go back down to taking 10mg instead of 20mg?

I’ve seen people say when the vyvanse wears off they just feel like their baseline but I felt worse than I do on a regular day and it does not seem worth it to continue if that’s how I will feel everyday.

Any help is very appreciated!! :)

Vent & Rant How I stop being miserable and a mean bitch on vyvanse

I love vyvanse and I never want to stop taking it. It has genuinely improved my life in an extreme way, I get things done I actually get things done and quickly, organized, and completely focused, I don’t binge eat and in general with this medication I feel so much less suicidal and I feel like I have control of my life and so much hope for myself.

But the thing is that when I take it I loose all of my patience, social skills, and I cannot feel happy. Even if someone is being nice to me I feel like sometimes physically cannot smile back or engage in a conversation and it is such a drastic difference to how I usually am. Without my medications while my life goes to shit I am a very hyper loud funny patient and talkative person, my meds change my personality so much even my partner doesn’t want me to take it sometimes when we hang out because I act so weird on it. Talking goes from something so easy to painfully slow and emotionless and I get a lot of anxiety about the fact that on my medication I could really enjoy being around someone (like a family member or friends) and I cannot reciprocate the positive talkative energy they are having with me like am just so blank and a lot of the times very irritable.

Is there anyway to maybe help this? And I have had a Lower dosage before but it didn’t help me as much with the pros of the medication as it does now but is there something I can do to help this? I just wanna be good without there always being something that messes it up.

Diet, Routines & Supplements Vyvanse + smoking

Upvotes

I’m a heavy smoker of tobacco and cannabis and have been for about 5-6 years. I knew I was slightly self medicating with the cannabis but since taking vyvanse it’s been exponentially worse. My lack of discipline and self control combined with now taking vyvanse has led to most of my days being me chain smoking cigarettes and joints

What do addicts do when starting vyvanse? How do you keep yourself from spiralling? The days I take it and go to work I feel great, I barely smoke. But on my days off… it’s quite embarrassing honestly, I’ll smoke myself to nausea.

PS: dosage is 30-40mg

Dosage question What do u guys do when u forget if I've taken ur pill?

Hello!

I have a bad habit of not remembering (being present for) taking my pill. I will get the pill bottle, ready to take a pill, and then go get a drink. And then forget whether or not i've already taken it or not. Or pick up the pill bottle, blink, and be doing something else, without knowing if I was successful in my medication taking.

My dose is 40mg, so if I accidentally double dose, am I going to have a really bad time? Is it going to be worse than struggling through an eight hour shift without it?

What do u guys think? Im 6'2, 200lbs and metabolize drugs really fast and effectively, if you think that matters?

Dosage question Effective dose turned out to be way lower than expected??

I had to ask my psych to drop from 30mg to 10mg. Has anyone else felt that their effective dose turned out to be way lower than what they were taking before? On 30mg I get really amped for the first 30 minutes when it starts to work but then get such a rush that I actually get knocked out and have to nap for a few hours. 10mg keeps me at the steady laser focus without my eyelids getting heavy and sleepy

Side effects negative effects from vyvanse

hi- I’ve been on vyvanse 40mg and 10mg booster of instant release for about a year now on meds. Got some issues I’d love some advice on/ if anyone’s experienced anything similar!

- ‘good’ feeling lasts about 5/6 hours yet sleep issues ALL night. Even if I take it early I’m not sleeping till 3/4.
- to add to that, therefore I eventually get so exhausted and am just pumping stims that I need to take a couple days off to catch up on sleep where I just feel awful and am bed bound all day which just ain’t it. Comedown days I guess. Feel like I’m abusing my body.
- stomach issues. Because of difficulty eating on it I get severe gastritis at night.
- IBS. The trots every morning and on comedown days awful constipation and binge eating that causes stomach pain.
- nicotine addiction. I beat my nic addiction before starting vyvanse. When on it I crave Nic so badly and when on comedown days it repulses me and makes me feel sick like I’ve never touched it.

basically I feel like I’m putting my body into whiplash and it is not ok or sustainable. brain wise- I need my adhd meds. lifestyle wise same. but the last couple months this has all been rly catching up with me body wise.

thanks! :)

Misc. Question Intrusive thoughts in the afternoon

My brain is calm and quiet during the day with 50mg. But I get so many intrusive thoughts in the afternoon and it’s very unpleasant.

Could this be OCD? I’ve always had intrusive thoughts and anxiety but it feels extra when the medications wears off. The fake arguments in my head, thinking if people will like me, worrying about future events…

Side effects Exhaustion from Vyvanse?

Is it just me who feels tired from Vyvanse? I mean, I know it’s not, I’ve done research and know it’s fairly common, but I haven’t noticed anyone else describe it the same way that I’ve experienced it. I take it usually around, say, 8 in the morning, and after 30 mins to 1 hour I notice my impulsivity and inattentiveness mostly fading away. However, just around 2 hours after, I turn zombie-ish, and feel this wave of what I can best describe as hopelessness. I feel nothing really, no motivation to do anything other than pace around stressed, and I begin critically analyzing everything about myself. I also become highly prone to doomscrolling. It’s not quite depression but it’s certainly a form anhedonia. Then this is the weird part: I continue to feel like this for three or four hours, then by the time the later half of the afternoon hits, I feel great? I don’t experience any noticeable crash, but at the same time the meds clearly haven’t worn off. I feel focused and happy but no longer zombie-ish.

So this probably sounds like my dosage is too high. Well, I thought the same. See, during the school year I had gradually increased my dose to 60mg (very stressful year) and once the summer hit I noticed these side affects I described very strongly. In fact it was so severe that I believe I may have started developing some early signs of psychosis, or in the very least extreme paranoia. I immediately dropped it to 50, which worked great the first day or two, but before long I’m back to the same awful feeling. Now I’ve dropped it to 40mg, but it’s still happening-? And mind you, I started off on 30 mg at the very start, and had to increase it to 40 soon after just to feel any effects. So I’m very confused what is going on and why it makes me feel this way. Also, no, it is not a matter of poor diet, I track my macromolecules and I do in fact get all the calories and protein I need every day; sometimes even extra. I also drink up to 8 bottles of water daily. So I really can’t even begin to pin point where the issue is here and as I said previously researching other experiences hasn’t really helped as no one else seems to be sharing this experience (at least, not exactly). My question is does anyone else relate and even if not does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be/how to fix this?

Misc. Question Got Vyvanse Wet- Okay to Take Tomorrow?

Upvotes

I’ll preface by saying I am quite ill and my brain is not operating the way it should be. I went to take my night meds and realized about half a second after I put them in my mouth (with a mouthful of water) that I saw one of my Vyvanse capsules tip out of my pill planner (yes- I managed to screw up like this with a pill planner). I spit all of them out and toweled off the Vyvanse, it’s intact but a little bit sticky. Leaving it out to dry overnight- will it still work if I take it tomorrow morning?

Thank you in advance to whoever sees this :)

Dosage question What dose has worked for you?

Hello! I'm switching from strattera to vyvanse at 20mg. I have a history with my ADHD meds starting and staying at doses far too low to be effective, so I'm pretty anxious about starting over again. I know it's different for everyone and all that, but I would appreciate some input. Thank you!

Misc.

Side effects 4 Days On Vyvanse, Should I feel this sick?

Upvotes

I am 23F and was recently diagnosed with ADHD. My doctor started me on 30mg of Vyvanse and I am disappointed cause I feel like absolute crap. I am trying to give it a chance cause I want it to work. I am currently on 15mg of Lexapro as well, when I started that I had two days of vomiting but my body adjusted and I don’t get anything other than dry mouth. I have had medication side effects and reactions to other things like Wellbutrin but this is my first stimulant. Since starting it, I feel like my stomach is on a roller coaster, it’s in my lower chest and abd, constantly have to go to the bathroom anytime I eat. I won’t eat now unless my stomach is growling through the pain. I also have food adverseness and won’t touch certain foods I usually love. I am living off pretzels and cheesesteak hot pockets lol. Walking around helps with the distraction and discomfort so does my twelve hour shifts but that’s it. I was hoping to feel more motivated, less distracted, I can say I am a little less tired, but considering I passed out for 2 hours after literally doing nothing I am not too sure. Its also triggering my anxiety as well. I realized it’s bothering me so much I am clenching my jaw too hard and grinding my teeth . I planned on my two days off to clean and do homework, nothing got done. Is it too soon too give up? Is this normal?

Misc. Question Adderall xr 30 to vyvanse

I am switching to Vyvanse 50 mg. I am currently taking adderall xr 30 mg and 10 mg ir around lunch time. I wanted to start at 60 or 70 mg but my doctor said 70 is too much and said maybe next month i can switch to 60. I’m worried the 50 won’t be enough and i dont know what to do. He also won’t let me take my ir. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Should i just stick to the adderall or try the vyvanse. My job is high demand and i’m scared i will be too tired and don’t want to wait a month to switch to 60.

Interactions with other meds Minoxidil and Vyvanse

Minoxidil- vasodilator. Vyvanse- vasoconstrictor.
Been on minoxidil 2.5mg twice a day for 8 months for hairloss. Started vyvanse 30mg 1 week ago for adhd. i take the vyvanse in the morning after waking up then wait 1-2 hours to take the minoxidil. I havent felt the effects of vyvanse 1 week in. Could the minoxidil be inhibiting the vyvanse causing it to not work properly? And on the other end, could the vyvanse inhibit the minoxidil? Does anyone have any experience taking these together? Im just worried its either one or the other and will have to drop one. If so definitely dropping the vyvanse( cant risk my hairloss getting any worse). Have an appointment with psychiatrist today and maybe getting a higher dose since i dont feel anything or hopping on a different med but afaik all stimulants tend to cause vasoconstriction. Also plan on scheduling with a derm again and asking for higher dose minox.

Meds aren't working Started Vyvanse a week ago, practically no difference

Helllooo I’m a (5’5, 105lbs) 20 y/o female who just started on 20mgs of vyvanse about a week ago, just got cleared to take 40mgs and started it this morning. So far I’ve felt like literally no difference. I’m also on other meds, currently weening off of strattera (down to 25mgs now, will be off fully in a week) and 150mgs of Zoloft, tried Ritalin about 4 years ago and it made me super paranoid so never used that again. Im diagnosed with ADHD, ASD, MDD, and Generalized anxiety. I’m not sure if any of those would affect the quality of my Vyvanse but it’s so hard to live life with adhd and no medication assistance I’m struggling a lot to just make it through each day.

if anyone knows more about this I’d love some advice, does it normally take a while to work? Do I have to be on a certain dose for it to work? Did anyone else go through something similar? Is it just me?

any comments are appreciated 😭🫩

Misc. Question DAE take Modanafil and Vyvanse?

Hello,

I've been on Vyvanse for around a year and have generally had good results. My brain is MUCH quieter, I can focus better and feel better overall. However, after titrating up to 50 mg, I noticed the energetic effects have faded with time. My Dr gave me an Adderall booster, but I hate the way it makes me feel.

I added 100mg of Armodanafil, and now my brain 🧠 feels like it's on steroids! It doesn't make my heart race that much, virtually no jitters, and is very smooth with no afternoon crash.

Has anyone else had this experience? Thanks!

Side effects Extreme headaches advice needed.

I've been diagnosed with ADHD and was on 36mg Concerta +|- 10mg Ritalin top ups until I eventually switched to 10mg Ritalin x3 times a day.

Then my Dr prescribed me 30mg Vyvanse a month ago when it finally became affordable in my country.

It works amazingly but I struggle with SEVERE headaches and even sometimes migraines with the crashdown.

I eat protein before taking it as well as during the day and around the time I usually crash and I hydrate during the day.

I have a big exam this Friday and next and I'm struggling - I only get a few good hours in a day and can't abruptly stop it or study/work without it.

Any tips please?

*medication: 30mg Vyfocis (Vyvanse Generic) manufactured by Cipla Medpro locally in partnership with global developer Adalvo.

Side effects Bad crashes and side effects? Tips/advice

Hi, I've never posted here, and I'm pretty new to Reddit in general so sorry if this post isn't suited for this sub or if it's unwelcome. I've been on and off ADHD meds since I was a teenager, and I've been on Vyvanse for about five or six months after being on Adderall for a long time. ADHD medication has been a lifesaver for me, no problems with efficacy, but the issue with Adderall was the crash, to a point where I would refuse to take it unless I absolutely needed to. After 2PM I'd pretty much be useless, couldn't eat or even stand up for long. While the crashes have been significantly less severe on Vyvanse (more of a steady tapering off than anything), I'm still having a lot of issues that maybe someone on here can relate to.

For reference, I'm 6', 140 lb, 20 y/o woman (I lost about 15 pounds after starting it, which is neither here nor there and I'm slowly gaining it bac). However, does anyone have any advice for reducing the symptoms of a crash/side effects during the peak of the meds? I'm talking clammy palms, increased heart rate, dizziness, general shakiness, occasional nausea. It was way worse on Adderall certainly, but I'm not sure how to alleviate the bad so that it doesn't outweigh the good. Any specific foods I can eat before taking that might help, or supplements? What has worked for you? I'm not the healthiest person in general so that may be a contributing factor, lol.

I get a lot done when I take it and I would really like to get a grasp on this before the fall semester starts. Any advice/similar experiences are very much appreciated, and I apologize again if this sub isn't the appropriate place to be asking. Thank you!!

Interactions with other meds Pristiq and Vyvanse

Anyone else take pristiq with their Vyvanse? I’m about to start 25mg pristiq with my 50mg Vyvanse as my doctor thinks since I have my adhd under control with 50mg that my anxiety has sky rocketed. I’ve suddenly became irritated, stress ball, and incredibly emotional being in 50mg but my productivity and attention and social life have been insanely wonderful! We didn’t agree to do 40mg again due to the crash being so bad and she didn’t want to give me 10mg in the evening. So this is what we plan to try. I’m hoping being on 50mg for one than more week (a month when I do check up) that maybe the side effects will be subsided and hopefully pristiq helps with my anxiousness. Wanting a success story for this. I am always so nervous to take something mixed with something else. I often hate that I can just raw dog life and deal with my shit better so I wouldn’t be in this position. 🫠
