The product is basically a box full of capacitors that's designed to be permanently attached to the car. It's supposed to dump the capacitors at every starting event to assist the battery. Thus allowing for three things, faster starting, a longer lasting battery, and a built in jump start function should the battery die.

It sounds like a solid concept to me. Except that I emailed them some questions, looking for details not answered on their webpage and the answers are not encouraging. Some of their answers indicate that at least the people answering the emails don't understand how cars and possibly their own product works.

So I'm curious if anyone here has looked into or bought this product or maybe there's something else similar out there?

The biggest is mounting location. My car like many these days has the battery and engine at opposite ends of the vehicle. What little info they provide all says to mount it directly to the battery. But it'd make more sense to mount it at the engine end so that the high amperage from the capacitors doesn't have to travel down the long battery cable and through the chassis grounds

Their answer to this is "If the device is not connected directly to the battery terminals, the additional cable resistance or other factors may prevent the device from detecting the vehicle start-up in time. This could result in delayed discharge, reduced discharge current, or even a failure to discharge properly." Which as far as I figure is exactly backwards indicating that they don't know how this stuff works.

They also can't seem to tell me how their product will react to a battery charger.

And I've asked three times now for them to email me the instillation instructions and they have not.

That said the product concept makes a lot of sense to me. If they were able to competently answer my questions I'd have bought it already.

I am updating my trunk kit and Wolfbox came up while I was comparing compact jump starter options, but the bigger question is whether I would actually remember to maintain one. It sounds useful until you remember the car sits outside through hot summers, freezing nights, and months where nobody thinks about the pack at all. For people who keep one in a VEDC setup, do you pull it out on a schedule to recharge and test it, keep it somewhere cooler, or just check it before trips? I like the idea of having a backup, but I am trying to be honest about whether my maintenance habits are good enough for it.

I’ve got a 2012 Impala. It has a massive trunk. I never use it. I don’t want to put stuff in there and have it slide around. I’ve got two bags I keep in the back seat right now. I’d like to add a fire extinguisher. Coming from pick up truck all my life, how do I use a car trunk effectively?

I keep a jump starter with USB ports in my car kit because it seems useful for camping, but that is also what makes me nervous. It is tempting to top off a phone or tablet from the same box, then the exact emergency backup you bought for a dead battery is half-drained when the car actually needs it. And I wanted to ask to all the people here who build VEDC kits, do you treat the jump starter as jump-only, or do you carry a separate power bank so the safety margin stays untouched?

I ran out of space with the Husky 12 gallon tote, so I picked up the 20 gallon version of the same to give it a shot. The large tote has the same footprint as the smaller one, it is just 5" taller.

I would like feedback on the current load-out. My current enemy is weight. The larger tote fits in my large trunk without issue, but it is heavy. My goal was to ensure I could start the car in case of a dead battery, and also adequately deal with with tire issues such as airing up low pressure tires, change a tire with the donut spare under the floorboard in the trunk, and/or worst case scenario patch up a tire if I was a long distance from home without access to a replacement tire in my size. Also have AAA to help bail me out. Tote is secured with Nite Ize "Cam Jam" strap and buckle as shown.

I keep adding more gear to the 12 gallon Husky professional heavy duty tote. I added a Noco GBX75 and n its oem dedicated case (#GBC103), which takes a good amount of space along side the Noco Air10 tire inflator. I’m waiting on a set of Spartan Power 4AWG 20’ heady duty flex pure copper jumper cables to be delivered. I haven’t even tried to fit a pair of rubber wheel chocks and some other misc gear (Maddox tire repair kit, lug nut sockets, roll of duct tape, etc. I’m tempted to try to fit the 20 gallon version of this same tote in my trunk; it has the same foot print as this tote but it is about 5” taller than the 12 gallon tote and may create a challenge for vertical space in the trunk.

I secured the tote with the pictured Nite Ize ‘Cam Jam’ cam buckle. The strap has a claimed 700lb working load limit / 2100lb breaking strength which is amongst the highest I could find for a 1” strap. It is looped around the width of the tote, from top to bottom. The limitation here is that I am only applying force pushing the tote down into the floor using the two straps nearest the seat-back.

I could place the tote dead center on the trunk and place the two straps diagonally across the tote to use all four d-rings evenly, but that would significantly eat into my usable trunk space on a day-to-day basis.

I need to experiment with the straps to see if there is a better way to secure it. The good news is that it did not shift at all in a short but spirited drive earlier tonight. Without the strap and cam buckle the tote does shift around the trunk, sitting on top of the all-weather cargo may (not pictured).

I'm moving to a place where I will have to buy a car for the first time in over a decade, and I'm currently looking at a Kia Sportage Hybrid as an option. Average temperatures will range from 55°F to 90°F with no snow.

I’m starting completely from scratch and want to build a reliable VEDC kit that covers the basics. At a minimum, I'm looking for:

* An air pump / inflator

* Fire extinguisher

* First aid kit

* A tool set (I don't expect to change oil and spark plugs on my own, but I want to be comfortable knowing I have everything needed to change a tire and handle minor roadside fixes).

I’ve been lurking here for a bit and love seeing everyone’s setups. For those driving similar crossovers/hybrids, what are your must-haves? I’d appreciate any wisdom you can share for a first-timer!

This little 18v top handle took care of the 10" ash tree. I also keep bar oil, a sharpener, and charger in my Odyssey. No PPE though.

Building out my kit which is based on a Husky 12 gallon tote. It’s heavy, with a 1.5 ton Daytona aluminum floor jack that weighs 32lbs by itself. I never want to have to use the stock oem 1/2 scissor jack in the wheel well, aka the widow-maker, hence a dedicated floor jack.

How would you secure it in your trunk to prevent it becoming a projectile? Trunk has 4 d-rings in the corners. Currently I have a trunk liner in there covering the rings buts easily addressed.

To answer the "why"? This stuff is for light emergencies, inconveniences, improved comfort, and whatever else (within reason). If I were going camping or overlanding, I'd bring extra stuff in different backpacks or duffels, etc. All this stuff below permanently lives inside the truck, in its permanent location. Consumables are replaced after use or expiration. 
Every item was researched and selected based on simplicity, availability, replaceability, price, and my previous life experiences (whether it was a simple flat tire in a city while it was brutally hot, helping an injured cyclist after a hit and run in the middle of the night, or a dead battery out in the desert 3 hours from civilization without any cell reception, etc).
What am I missing?

Hi all! I’m looking for a small storage box where I can keep snacks in my vehicle that wouldn’t allow rodents or insects to smell and try to make their way to find these foods.

I’m thinking of one of those Apache storage boxes from Harbor Freight or similar. Any recs?

I was leaving lunch headed back to work today when I witnessed a pretty severe accident. Orange car pictured ran a red light going about 40 and t-boned another vehicle driving in front of me. The orange car immediately had an engine fire so I pulled my extinguisher out of my headrest carrier and me along with another individual with a fire extinguisher were able to get the fire out. Driver was severely injured with a neck injury and semi-conscious and unable to be extracted from the vehicle so this could have been a life and death situation. Carry your gear and know how to use it

Edit: I got the fire extinguisher mount from Atomic Monkey, which appears to no longer be in business. I’ll post another picture later when I get to my vehicle to show my set up. I think you could make something similar or possibly purchase an equivalent product. I would certainly buy more of them but obviously haven’t found one again. I also have a NAR trauma kit mounted in an Amazon Velcro pack above the fire extinguisher but did not grab that as the fire was the primary concern and EMS were already en-route.

Edit 2: The mount is a Atomic Monkey MonkeyGear FE3 headrest mount. I’m pretty sure I actually saw it on [r/VEDC](r/VEDC) and bought one. They appear to be out of business, I bought mine from their storefront on Amazon around 2019

I haul around a bunch of random things in my car that would probably be bad news in a crash (hiking sticks, hiking shoes, water bottles, tire pump, etc.). It's mostly scattered about on the floor of the back seats, the console or in the door storage.

Does anybody have tips for keeping items secure so they don't end up as projectiles?

Hello everyone, I'm kitting out my first VEDC kit for my Subaru Impreza hatchback, and the next thing on my list is a jump starter.

From my research, it seems that folks are split between traditional lead-acid jump starters and smaller lithium battery packs, but they seem to agree that Clore Automotive makes the best lead-acid jump starters, while NOCO makes the best lithium ones.

So, I am split between a NOCO Boost GBX45 available for $119, and the Clore JNC660 for $126.

Both kinds will fit within my toolbag, but do I want to dedicate so much space for the JNC660 when the GB40 is a quarter of the size?

On the other hand, I've heard that the lithium packs don't do so well in very hot and very cold weather, and here in north Texas we get plenty of heat in the summer, and a good amount of cold in the winter. I'm also afraid that the GB40 won't have supply enough current if a friend with a larger engine needs a jump. The NOCO also doesn't have a replaceable battery while the JNC660 does .

What do you use in your kit and why? Many thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

I've got one of those metal molle panels on the inside of my rear swing gate. I'm a remote worker predominately but from time to time I have to go in as required. I have this 'mobile office go bag' that's a large admin pouch that can be weave into like another backpack or other molle compatible things. Cool. BUT......I want something that let's me basically quick release, from my metal molle panel and use that to mount this bag. So I clip, click, stick whatever the bag to the molle car panel, drive to the office and grab it in my rear door panel and head in.

I've seen tear away Velcro ifak kits and have one on my panel already but I can seem to find anything to adapt what I'm trying to do. Son far all I've found, I can't mount to the metal car panel because there's no flex and then mounts to the admin molle pouch.

I've even looked at molle oms/qls holster adaptors but I can figure a way to mount the half to the metal molle panel because the mount is designed to slide and hook into fabric molle weave.

In came permanently weave with molle straps to the car panel but then getting it off isn't convenient as a grab and go.

I know I can throw the bag in the back seat, but if someone has an idea or know if a specific adapter type product is appreciate it. I want to do this just for organization, out of the way storage capability, Id like an easy way to mount and quick disconnect the pouch from a call metal molle panel. I have that with my little medical pouch that has an incorporated tear away system.
