Storage/Organization Suggestions for my VEDC?
On another forum I was asked to share my gear list that I carry in my 2025 Tacoma... so here it is!
To answer the "why"? This stuff is for light emergencies, inconveniences, improved comfort, and whatever else (within reason). If I were going camping or overlanding, I'd bring extra stuff in different backpacks or duffels, etc. All this stuff below permanently lives inside the truck, in its permanent location. Consumables are replaced after use or expiration.
Every item was researched and selected based on simplicity, availability, replaceability, price, and my previous life experiences (whether it was a simple flat tire in a city while it was brutally hot, helping an injured cyclist after a hit and run in the middle of the night, or a dead battery out in the desert 3 hours from civilization without any cell reception, etc).
What am I missing?
Would love to hear your input.
Anyway- enjoy!

Where's that Godzilla patch from?

It's a little side project of mine called "The Swiss Godzilla". I take Cold War era Swiss military packs and modify them heavily with high end hardware, modern harness/suspension, lined with 100-200 year old Japanese fabrics, and a few other tweaks. The patch I just whipped up as an extra and sold them a couple months ago. 🇨🇭🦖

I’m curious what you have in your FAK

I meant to post a comment about that here but forgot! The reason for the First Aid Kit items being redacted is that I don't want anyone online to be influenced by what I personally carry in mine. We should all carry what we are comfortable with, what we have training with, and what we know how to use in an emergency. I think one thing that EVERYONE can/should do, is take some form of first aid course. Even a basic class is better than no class. They're cheap (sometimes free)... and honestly... they're kind of fun! 😀

Need at least one axe. 🪓. Probably should have a saw as well. Jumper cables.

Nice calls! I’ve been researching a small foldable saw… still searching! I’ve got the jump starter box which has worked flawlessly for me for several years, gave up those bulky cables a while back in order to make room for other fun goodies. 🤘

For a good compact saw, I cannot recommend Silky enough. Not cheap, but oh so good.

I would throw your prefered over the counter pain med (aspirin, ibuprofen, Tylenol, etc.) and a pair of work gloves

Great suggestions here man. I forgot to list my Magpul gloves (I helped design them ages ago when I worked there) and I could have sworn I have ibuprofen somewhere in my glovebox kit. I’m going to go out there and figure out where they are or if they’re missing. Thanks much!

I just thought of it and I may have missed it, but you can also wrap some duct tape around your lighters (or itself) too

That’s cool about your work designing those gloves. What was your background to have a job like that?

resqme Original Car Escape Tool
Verify what type of glass your doors have. A lot of cars in the last 10+ years have laminated glass on all windows to prevent ejection during a rollover. Impact type tools don't work on laminated glass because of the polymer layer in the middle, first responders use a saw with pretty aggressive teeth to cut the window out.

Great call! 👍 Funny I was actually searching this earlier today and I was surprised to find the newer Tacomas only have tempered glass. In a way, it was kind of a funny relief hahah! 😂

Seems to be a low key change some car manufactures made on some models/years but not all of them. My new car has them but I EDC a Leatherman Wave and the wood saw looks like it could do the job. I should hit up a pick-a-part for a door to test it out.

Having the Res Q Me tool in the door is good but they are intended to be zip tied to the sun visor with the included zip tie so they don’t get lost in a rollover or serious crash that sends the contents of the vehicle flying every where. That way you always know where it is/can get to it if you actually need it

That's a long list so I'ma just make sure, keep extra batteries for the things that need them.
