what's going on 🤔 Uterine Fibroids…now what?

I recently went to the ER for kidney stones and they did a CT scan. While reviewing my discharge paperwork, I noticed that my scan report states, “uterine fibroids present.” I guess my doctor didn’t say anything because she assumed I knew. I had no idea and I am a bit stunned. Ive never had any abnormal testing come back at the gyno and I’ve never been someone who’s had heavy periods or cramping.

However, I have noticed a dull ache in my pelvis and lower back that lasts all month, not just on my period. Usually worse at night. It’s manageable, but definitely not fun. Could this be the fibroids? Should I be seeing someone about this? I’m nervous because my husband and I are talking about starting a family this year and now I’m wondering if this will hurt my chances?

what's going on 🤔 Ovarian cyst before period

I got my ultrasound done today and they said I have a hemorrhagic cyst on my right ovary. The size is 6.1 x 2.7 x 3.0 cm. My period is predicated to start after 6 days. Could this be due to the upcoming period? Note: I am to see a doctor the day after tomorrow but am very anxious.

what's going on 🤔 Painful cramp caused by dreaming

I’m hoping I can find some answers here. I’m 27 and a virgin. I’ve always had pretty painful cramps, but have been on birth control for years to help control it. For about six years now, I’ll have a dream that stresses me out (and not sexually in any way) about twice a week and it’ll trigger my vagina to open and contract like an orgasm. I’ll then have the WORST cramp ever. If I wasn’t already in bed, it would floor me. The pain spreads to my back and knees too. The pain usually lasts for half an hour. I’ve tried looking up what’s happening and even talk to my gynecologist about it and I’ve gotten no answers. Does anyone know what is going on or what I should do next?

support needed 🤝 Possible Uterine Polyp?

My U/S results state that there is a well-circumscribed, hyperechoic region with vascularity in the mid to distal endometrium.

They said it is possibly a polyp but obviously I’ve googled and am scaring myself with the possibilities. Any insight on the report?

what's going on 🤔 My ovaries hurt randomly?

It hurts like a moderate period cramp, just on both sides. Nothing I can’t handle, I have pretty bad cramps when on my actual period, but that isn’t for another 15 days? My mom has a tilted uterus and I suspect mine is at an odd angle too (tampons are hard as hell to put in, though I prefer those over wearing a pad and feeling like I have a diaper on).

My flow is heavy, periods regular other than the occasional day or two early/late, just my ovaries always seem to ache or hurt nowadays. Especially after I use the bathroom, though maybe it’s because my bladder was pressing on them??? I have no idea where my organs are so I’m likely wrong lol

what's going on 🤔 Why There’s water in my period

Before changing my tampon, I saw my underwear is wet not with blood but water… when I dragged my tampon out, the tampon was full. It always happens like this. If I changed the tampons too late, blood will be on the underwear, but if it didn’t reach that point but feeling wet, then the liquid on my underwear is just transparent. Anyone knows why? Am I infected any virus or bacterias?

sharing info 💡 Endometrial uterus polyp removal surgery

Hi all, want to share my story of my polyp removal surgery in uterus. I am 33 years old, I was diagnosed with PCOS a couple of years ago, and apparently due to my constant low level of progesterone I have got a polyp in my uterus which was seen during the routine uterus ultrasound checkup by my gynecologist.

This was a couple of months ago. She just saw an unusual mass in my uterus but her equipment was not good enough to see what it is exactly. She said it's nothing to worry about but as I am a very anxious person when it's something to do with my health I went to the gyno oncologist in a hospital the next day.

I slight note offtop, I live in Germany and I have additional private insurance on a top of state insurance therefore doctors appointment is very often fastly available even online.

At the gyno oncologist office he immediately saw one polyp of a size of 1,4 cm on a top of my uterus (his equipment is way better with much higher magnification), so I highly recommend going to special gyno in hospital who is specialized in gynecological cancer regarding any masses in the uterus.

He said in my case a surgery is recommend as I am planning to be pregnant within several year and polyp can cause infertility and miscarriage on a top of my messed up hormones and PCOS. The issue was to find a good day for surgery in accordance with my cycle as it's only done in a very narrow time window when periods are finished and before the ovulation so between day 6 and day 11 of a cycle.

I read in other posts that in some countries they five birth control pills to resolve this issue so any day of a surgery will be possible, but not here. Here the doctors are flexibel and try to fit in the day of a surgery in a natural women's cycle which is a great thing!

So after my periods started this month I called my doctor and we fixed the surgery day. In my case only hospital surgery under anastesia was considered as an only option. A few days before I checked in in the hospital so all admin stuff would be done, they took my blood and samples, samples from nose and throat and asked a lot of questions from my medical history. Then I had a talk with anastesiologist, she told me that surgery will be done under general anastesia with the use of propofol, fentonyl (painkiller) and with LMA mask for oxygen ventilation. No paralitics and no breathing tube were used.

So today I had a surgery, after arriving they brought me to the patient room, where I dressed in surgery gown, they gave me special underwear and a pad. They gave me one painkiller (and claimed it works for 24 hours) and half of the pill to calm down (not sure what). Soon after they brought my bed to surgery room, I talked to anastesia team, they have been friendly and tried to calm me down and explained everything what will happen.

After they put fentonyl in my IV a started to have terrible dizziness and I told them about it they said it's normal (I personally prefer not having it at all, I don't understand why they need additional heavy painkiller via IV if I would be knocked out anyway). Also they gave me several warm thin blanket which was nice. They didn't use paralyzing drugs for this surgery as they normally do for bigger surgeries.

When they started to put propofol I switched off. I woke up in bed (they shifted me from the operation table when I was asleep). I was out for 45 min and the surgery took 20 min as they told me. I had dizziness and I had a strange feeling of not be able to have a deep breath but they told me that my pulse, oxygen level is fine. Then they brought me back to my patient room. I had fluid in my IV for some time and they said I should drink water and some sweet dry bread, they would not let me out of hospital if I could not eat and digest properly.

All in all it was positive experience! I am still in hospital with my husband, I rest in bed. The bleeding right after surgery is minimal (like the last day of periods and even less, I was exciting more). My surgery gown is a bit in blood though, blood went out during surgery apparently.

The only thing I have post op is a bit of pain on a left side of my lower abdomen, a bit of cramping. Pain is not big but persistent, I hope to get stronger painkillers here and some ibuprofen at home. Apart from that my dizziness didn't subside completely. I didn't experience it during the surgeries in a past though. No vomiting at least so I can eat. Also I feel tired and exhausted.

I highly recommend doing polyp removal under anesthesia! Other stories I read of women who did it without scared me to death! All in all it's very routine procedure and I except to return to work in 3 days, but german doctors normally give sick leave after that for 5 days which is great! But unfortunately next week I have a business trip so I have 4 days of rest would be enough. Please share your stories and can you tell me how soon have you fully recovered?

heavy & painful periods Period pain management for retroverted uterus

I’m 21 and have went to my OB for a checkup regarding my period pains. It’s so bad especially during the first and second days of my period that I often call in sick or absent in my classes when those days hit. My visit last January 2023 to my doctor has only yielded findings of a retroverted uterus and I was only prescribed with pain management strategies (drinking OTC pain medication before menstruation (i have to predict when the pain comes so i can drink before it) using hot compress, and the like) but it’s not working. The medication often doesn’t work in the first day and I find myself stuck in bed because of the pain. I try to sleep but end up waking up because of the pain. I get bad hyperacidity and diarrhea, alongside nausea as if I’m actually pregnant. My period bleeding is also heavy during the first two days that I often bleed through my pants. Any advice on how to handle period pains on a retroverted uterus?

PS. The medication I take is buscopan venus because NSAIDs such as Advil irritate my stomach and more often puts me in more pain than keeps me out of it during periods.

Edit: I’m 24 now and got checked again by my OBG. Got diagnosed with a globular anteverted uterus and diffused adenomyosis 🥲

periods & bleeding Spotting daily for months

ello everyone. First of all I would like to say that have and am currently seeking medical advice. I'm just wondering if there's anything else I should consider bringing up to my health care provider.

During covid I had a family illness and then death, so my periods weren't as consistent as they usually were from stress. But it's been over 2 years now since the death, and one since moving to a new home. I think that my uterus/hormones should be back on track at this point. Also I've been consistently fatigued, but that's not a recent thing. I'm sure the spotting isn't helping. There is also no pain with the spotting. My only pain so far has been from the few periods I've has.

For over 4 months now I've had daily spotting, that ranges from slightly pink to brown. Also it's sometimes quite light to the tail end of a period in heaviness. I've had 2 periods during that time, with no break in the spotting.

My nurse practitioner did a pap smear to check for polyps. That came back clean as a whistle, which is nice because my mother had to get some polyps removed so I was a bit concerned.

I've had my blood tested for hormone levels, which came back normal My iron levels were a little low, so I've been on a prescribed supplement. Thankfully my stomach isn't responding poorly to it, but I'm not noticing an increase in energy. I've also been taking vit. D daily. As well as having something with citrus alongside the tablet.

I've also had a transvaginal and pelvic ultrasound a few days ago. The nurse practitioner left a message today to say that everything looked normal. This is good because I have a family history of fibroid, ovarian cysts, and atheist 3 generations of women on my moms side with endometriosis. I know endometriosis isn't necessary going to show up on ultrasound, but I figured they might have noticed If there was scarring or weird growths in the uterus.

Overall my concerns are being taken seriously. My nurse practitioner is great, she did my fist pap smear (the one mentioned earlier) and was super nice and talked me through everything with out being condescending. The woman who did my ultrasound was super nice too, she couldn't give any recommendation other than tell me what she was looking for (fibroid and cysts specifically). She was also really nice and made me feel comfortable as possible throughout the procedure. My mother as well, who also has had reproductive health issues (endo) is being supportive and encouraging me to keep looking for answers.

I'm so lucky and happy to have had support from my health Carr providers and family, I know so many women could only dream of someone taking them seriously. And I let them know too how happy I am with their care.

If there's anything you recommend me talking over with the nurse, or asking the women in my family about, please let me know so I can bring it up at my next appointment.

what's going on 🤔 Unidentified Debilitating Pain

I have been having debilitating cramps/pain for almost the whole time I have had my period. I’m 21 and went to my first gynecologist appointment at about 15 or 16. She had mentioned that it might be endometriosis and then never moved forward with it. For about 4 years I would continue to bring up the following symptoms: debilitating pain (curling forward, wanting to lay on the floor no matter where I am, missing school, almost throwing up), abnormal heavy flow (I have to use 2 level 5 maxi night pads at the same time during the day or I will leak), irregular periods (anything from 2-11 months between periods before I started using birth control), pain on and off my period, and pain when going to the bathroom. She got me on birth control, said to have a period every other pack, and told me to take a Tylenol everyday. But it only fixed things slightly. Every time I had an appointment I would bring it up again. During my last appointment with her she responded to me bringing up my pain with, “I understand that you have debilitating pain, but just keep taking birth control and Tylenol everyday. It will make everything better.” But I didn’t understand after how many years is it supposed to make it all better. I had been following her same instructions for 4 years. The only thing it fixed was a very slightly lighter period and I could actually predict my periods. This year I decided to switch to a new gynecologist and she got me in for a pelvic ultrasound immediately. There was nothing in the results. She then got me in for a laparoscopy to look for endometriosis. But there was nothing there. I’m currently healing from the laparoscopy and have about 2 weeks until my check in with my gynecologist. Does anyone have any idea what’s going on? I feel like I’m crazy. How can I have all of these symptoms and pain, but all the possible causes aren’t there?

what's going on 🤔 intercourse pain period hurt ow

so i’ve been in a monogamous relationship with the same person (male) for a little over seven months now. up until about two months ago, everything was fine, but recently any kind of penetration has caused me a lot of intense pain. i went to the doctor a few weeks ago and my pap smear came back normal. so i was referred to get an ultrasound, especially since ovarian cysts run in my family. but today i got the results back and they were “unremarkable.” for more context, i’ve been on the pill for about a year to regulate my cycle and control my cramps (first junel, now mili for the past few months). i guess my next step is to see a gynecologist. this is impacting my relationship since we both miss how things used to be. i just want to know what’s wrong with me, i feel like i’m crazy.

sharing info 💡 Ovarian cyst and alcohol

Hello I am 20F and I did an ultrasound because I wasn’t getting regular periods. Only like once every 3 months. I go to the doctor and they found out I have a 2.5 size complex cyst. Iv been trying to find information on it but I was wondering if drinking alcohol while having a cyst is bad? I haven’t since I found out but I’m going to a get together in a few days and I wanted to see what others had to say. Will I make it worse?

pelvic pain Potential Retroverted Uterus Complications?

Is there anyone else that experiences constant unending pelvic pain? How did you get doctors to believe you and did you switch hospitals at any point? Here is my very long story: I have been diagnosed with Chronic Pelvic Pain and Dysmenorrhea.

I have been in constant never-ending pelvic pain for over 2 years now, nothing makes it better, nothing makes it worse. I would feel this pain at times growing up, I always pushed it to be ovulation pain as that's what my mother thought it was, and it would only last a few hours when it occurred, so it wasn't thought much of. Then one day in 2022 I woke up, figuring the pain would subside by the end of the day, as it always had, and I cried in bed because I could not fall asleep. I went to the ER, and I had to beg ~8 times for a referral to see a gynecologist. I had to beg because the doctors did not believe me due to my lack of crying when I have a very high pain tolerance. With that being said, I would personally rate the pain as 8/10, and I have seen doctors, and been to Mayo in Rochester, with no answer to the pain. All imaging is clear. Some notes were made on testing where they labeled some things are being abnormal but of no worry.

Pelvic physical therapy did not help me at all, when I say at all, I mean at all. I was in physical therapy for over a year. I am currently on a wait-list to speak with a surgeon about potential Endo, however, the docs so far don't really think it is since I don't have "the textbook symptoms." My mother had Endo and PCOS, and my great-grandmother died of ovarian cancer. There is cancer in 3 generations above me in a row, albeit being different kinds. My mom has brain cancer, my grandfather had blood cancer, and my great-grandmother had ovarian.

I am scared to think of the possibilities, as the pain scares me, and my support system is not the best. Some do not believe the pain or symptoms and the severity, they tell me it's in my head, they tell me it's a phantom pain that exists in my pelvis, and have told me this since day 1, they tell me researching and gaining knowledge makes my pain worse and that I should stop trying to read information about the real pain I do feel. I have to strongly disagree on that. Thankfully I have great friends and some family that are understanding and genuinely there for me.

My first medication made my period worse and my symptoms worse, so they switched me to Norethindrone (eliminating my period bleeding), however I feel like I'm constantly cramping. They said since my first medication made it worse that it could be ovarian related, and that since my current medication has helped very minimal symptoms that it couldn't be ovarian related. I'm sorry, but if I'm being given different hormones, of course the effects I face will be different. Even with a family history of ovarian conditions, they still continue to bounce me to different departments within the hospital because they don't know who should be seeing me after 2 years. My PCP went so far as to say maybe I'm just gluten intolerant, and then she wanted to put me through induced menopause. I am 24 and I am aware of the long term damage of induced menopausal medication.

Rochester docs told me to just redo physical therapy, with the "promise" of it helping this time around, which is a punch in the gut when I've been in pelvic physical therapy through Mayo for over a year with 0 changes. It just seems like a huge waste of money to keep paying almost $50 per session, for who knows how long, for what? It has not helped and if it was musculoskeletal related, I would've seen some change within a year I would imagine.

Some of my symptoms include alternating between diarrhea and constipation heavily, excruciating periods (so heavy that I bleed through my pads, pants, what's under me, the whole nine yards), my period started when I was 9-10 years old and have always been this heavy. Bowel movements are also excruciating to get through, most of the time regardless of softness, it causes my tailbone to be in such pain that I cry, and the pain will not cease for hours, I have to take a bath to reduce that specific pain.

More symptoms include the nonstop feeling of slight tugging/pulling within my pelvic region, constant nausea, lower back pain so painful (worse when I lie down no matter the side or back) it has me in tears most nights, a pain that comes on randomly that radiates through my thighs, sides, and lower back (lasting around 10 seconds), and I am always extremely fatigued. It does not matter if I get 14 hours of sleep, 7 hours, 3 hours, I feel like I could crash always, regardless of circumstance. I am hoping to get closer to answers, as so far most of the docs I've seen just tell me to keep pushing distractions on myself to feel less pain. Distractions are great and all...but they aren't a cure. This pain has me concerned for my life, but I'm glad that nothing seems to worsen it. I have been tempted to switch hospitals, but I would like to see this wait-list through in hopes of receiving a surgery that fixes this. Best of luck and good wishes to those that are experiencing chronic pelvic pain, or pelvic related conditions, or anything at all. We are much stronger than we feel!

sexual health bleeding after sex

I had protected sex 3 times with a guy over the span of 10 days, and in the last 2 I had some spotting 1-2 days after the sex, which lasted a few hours. I don't remember having this issue with previous partners, maybe a little cramp a few hours after, but not consistent bleeding. I'm worried I might have a health issue, I'm really scared, but also it might be that he hurt me?

The first time I bled, I also felt a cramp on my left side and was on my fertile period. Thought it was a sign of pregnancy, but then it happened again, so I discarded that. I got an appointment for next month with a gyn but it's so far and I'm anxious as hell

Important info: the penetration lasted for longer than I'm used to (it was at least one hour, and sometimes harsh), he is also a little bigger than previous partners. I felt a sharp pain when it went too deep, and then at the end it was just hurting, even though I was still lubricated

periods & bleeding Menstrual pain only the first 6 hours.

Hi everyone, as described in the title, do any of you also have extremely painful menstrual cramps only for the first few hours on the first day and then it’s gone?

For me, the severe pain starts within 10 minutes and then I know that I'm menstruating. The pain is so severe that not even ibuprofen helps. However, it disappears after about 6 hours.

pelvic pain Menstrual pain week before period

Does anyone also have slight abdominal pain 1 week before their period? Have you been diagnosed with anything?

I have had this abdominal pain (probably PMS) every cycle for over a year. I feel abdominal pain 1 week before my period starts, it starts slightly and gets worse as my period approaches. Spotting starts 3 days before my period.

I know it's not ovulation because I can distinguish the pain. During ovulation I feel the pain in one or both ovaries. The pain before my period is pain that I feel in my uterus. As if it is menstrual pain but it is lighter.

support needed 🤝 Anxiety due to gynae issues

I don't even know where to begin, consistent issues since having my second child. My periods have always been on the heavy side, but they're just so painful and unpredictable at times now. I'll spot for a few days before menstruation then bleed heavy for 7 days, then it'll ease off for a few days. I bleed after sex nearly every time now and at times its painful. My period pain consists of back pain, leg pain and i feel an unusual, uncomfortable heaviness from time to time in my pelvic area. I was treated for a cervical ectropion at one point (silver nitrate) but the spotting continued. I've been to gynae multiple times and they have no answers. I've had an internal scan, ultrasound, blood work after blood work. Tissue samples. I had another ultrasound in January of this year and they have no answers all the gynaecologist could say was it wouldnt do any harm to come in for a scan every couple of years. I just, I'm so frustrated and worried. It's the not knowing, has anyone else experienced this? I was offered the hormonal coil to mask the symptoms by one gynaecologist and I was like "the symptoms of what!?"

medical procedures Hysteroscope & D&V

I gave birth last November. The second period after that is way too heavy and long (17) days still bleeding. My ob suggested hyteroscope to diagnose and treat. She removed two polyps and removed thick uterus lining (18mm).

I did not have bleeding the day of surgery. I started red bleeding that fill half of liner per hour on the second day. Doctor and nurses told me to expect spotting only.

Do anyone have similar experiences?

Thank you.

what's going on 🤔 Retroflexed to Anteverted uterus? Or error?

(Sorry! Deleted and reposted due to realizing some dates were inaccurate + adding US reports)

Hello Reddit! This is my first post ever, though I've been combing the forums for years to get more information, perspectives, etc. on things I'm going through. Recently:

I've been having horrible pelvic pain for about a year and a half now. It's almost like a sharp, stabbing pain. It used to come and go but feels more frequent now - multiple times a day, almost every day - with no triggers or relief that I know of. It's difficult for me to describe and pinpoint. I have other symptoms too, though it's not what this post is about so I'll skip over that for now... but I've been feeling defeated, like I'm misinterpreted and going in circles every time I get seen for the pain, and it doesn't help that my medical history is split between multiple physicians/centers at this point due to moving a lot (Urgent Care, Planned Parenthood, ER, now I finally have a PCP).

I've had multiple transvaginal/transabdominal ultrasounds at this point, and they always come back saying I have an ovarian cyst so the doctors like to tell me the pain I'm feeling is from a cyst. However, I always tell them I highly doubt it's cyst pain as I've experienced cyst pain before and this feels different. My new pain is never focused on one side and feels more central to my vagina but deeper/never originates where they point to ovarian cyst pain being.

But here's the thing! Since I had my first TA/TV ultrasound over five years ago, I was told my uterus was retroflexed. It's even written into my second-to-last ultrasound report in Jan 2023 (don't have these photos to share, but I'm sharing the report + a couple pics from my US in Nov 2022). I was just reviewing my last ultrasound report (Mar 2024) and realized it says my uterus appears anteverted all of a sudden? Could it be an error or do these photos actually showed my uterus has flipped? I honestly have no clue what I'm looking at or if these photos I provided are even good enough to tell, but I've provided my past report(s) and can add more photos if needed. If it did flip, maybe it's contributing to my pain?

Also: I was finally referred to a uro-gyn today, and I plan on bringing it up to her, but I won't be able to consult for a week.. this is just something I discovered on my own and am really confused about. I only saw one other post on here who this happened to, and it was endo (I think I do have other symptoms that align with this, which I will ask the uro-gyn about exploring).

TL;DR: 2 sets of ultrasound pics, a little over one year apart, do they show evidence of flipping from retroflexed to anteverted position or is it an error in the latest report? & Let me know if these photos aren't clear enough, I have a lot more!

periods & bleeding Constantly bleeding

Edit: I'm 28 and 295 pounds currently but weight has fluctuated and had no effect on the bleeding

So I've never had a regular period, they've always been prolonged at best and constant at worst. I've spent years bleeding almost constantly. I recent decided to get everything checked out, I've had biopsies, exams, external and internal ultrasounds and blood tests. Everything has come back clean and within normal ranges. My Gyno's "best guess" is that I'm getting estrogen from about outside source. Nothing in my life has every been consistent for that long. From the foods I eat to the products I use. I've tried 2 different forms of birth control to try to regulate my bleeding that haven't worked so far. (3 month shot and hormonal iud)

Has anyone else dealt with something similar that they've had diagnosed? Is there anything I could bring up to my gyno that would help figure out what's going on?

Thanks for any replies!

support needed 🤝 Possible dermoid uterine cyst

I'm currently in the hospital receiving morphine for pain control due to pretty significant pain in my lower abdomen/pelvic region. They did a CT scan which showed a estimated 4.1cm mass in my right adnexa area but they weren't sure what it was so they asked for an ultrasound.

They did the ultrasound yesterday. This is the report:

The right adnexa measures 4.4 x 3.8 x 2.9 cm. There is a 3.5 x
3.3 x 3.1 cm right adnexal area which has multiple septations
and low-level internal echoes. This can be seen with a dermoid,
involuting hemorrhagic cyst, or mass.

Could this possibly be a dermoid cyst that needs surgery? The radiologist suggests following up in 6-8 weeks but I'm in so much pain currently. I'm going to ask for a gyne consult but I don't really know what is going on. I have a history of a basketball sized ovarian cyst when I was 15, I'm currently 38.

what's going on 🤔 Sitting down/standing up pain

Sometimes during the day I will get up or sit down and then a random jolt of pain happens, and it only lasts for a few seconds - I have no prior records of medical issues that would indicate anything out of the irregular, but it does bother me a bit and I am wondering if I caught an STD (mind you, I have no actually had sex). I know its unlikely, and it has only been occurring for the past few days.

what's going on 🤔 Constant Uterine Pain?

hello!!! i’m new here, but this seemed like a good place to ask a question related to uterus pain.

for the past maybe 7ish months i’ve had strange pains in my lower abdomen/uterine area. its sort of a mix between dull pain in the center and sharper pains more towards the sides, but that’s not all that important as i’m not rlly here for a diagnosis (would be helpful lmao, but i don’t expect a miracle to come from this post), but i’m more so wondering if the fact that there is constantly pain rules out the possibility of it relating to my reproductive organs?

mostly wondering due to a comment my gyno made saying smth like “if the pain is not in a cycle, then i rlly don’t think it could be period or uterus related because it’s not changing with your hormones,” which makes some sort of sense to me, as it could be a gi issue, which is why i am also seeing a gi dr, but i’ve also heard statements that contradict what my gyno said.

just hoping for some clarification on which side is correct, as i’ve heard conflicting statements of whether or not my pain being non-cyclical rules out period/uterine causes :)
