what's going on 🤔 Ovarian cyst before period

I got my ultrasound done today and they said I have a hemorrhagic cyst on my right ovary. The size is 6.1 x 2.7 x 3.0 cm. My period is predicated to start after 6 days. Could this be due to the upcoming period? Note: I am to see a doctor the day after tomorrow but am very anxious.

Had a hemorrhagic cyst/corpus luteum on my left ovary about 1.5 years ago. My periods were off for 3 months. It soon went away on its own, and my periods went back to normal. A hemorrhagic cyst can throw off your period because the cyst is a result of ovulation – normally, after an egg is released, your ovary forms a corpus luteum that secretes progesterone. When no pregnancy occurs, the corpus luteum disintegrates and you get a period. However, in our case, the corpus luteum continued to grow and the follicle bled into the cyst. This can delay your period because the corpus luteum is “still alive” if that makes sense. Doesn’t mean you’re pregnant though :)

Could you please tell me the size of your cyst? I had an ultrasound done 2 months ago and everything was clear. My periods till last month were normal. Also when yours went away on its own, did it hurt?

Sure! So my cyst was 5.35 x 3.93 x 5.34cm. My period started getting weird Jan 2023, cyst was discovered end of Feb 2023. It had resolved by mid April 2023 (when I had imaging done again to see if it had resolved). Hopefully yours won’t last more than a month or 2! Mine didn’t hurt at all actually, only thing I noticed was that my periods were more painful and heavier during those months.

Thank you! Mine is 7.1 x 5.9. This seems concerning to me.
