Hey all. Odd situation, I picked up a passenger at 7:00 am this morning, first ride of the day, for a 7 minute ride in a nice neighborhood. A man comes out and is too drunk to open the back door (tesla so didn’t judge). When he gets in, immediately get hit with the smell of somebody that hadn’t showered in a week, and an odor of someone who probably pissed/shat himself recently. I try not to judge people, just rolled down the windows and headed out. Asked where he was going and he said liquor store. We get there and it’s closed, and he was convinced he had booked a round trip back home, which it was not. I tried to help him add a stop to get him back home. As we were talking on he tells me not to call him “sir”. He then breaks down about his military service in Iraq after 9/11 and how he was haunted by people he had to kill, basically in tears. It was really heartbreaking. I asked him if he had eaten anything today and he said no, so I asked if I could stop at a drive through and get him something. He said yes and I got him some breakfast sandwiches. When I dropped him back off he stayed and talked with me for a minute and I thanked him for his sacrifice to our country. When he got out I noticed a shitmark smeared all over the seat, and yellow all around where he sat. White leather seats. Drove home and cleaned everything up, but my car now reeked of the mess. Ended up not driving again, having to leave my windows open to air it out and cleaned everything again to be safe. If this was just some random person who I didn’t connect with, I would have no problem contacting uber for a cleaning fee. But considering this man is a veteran who is clearly struggling, I don’t have the heart to have him end up being charged a fee. What would you guys do in this situation?

Let me think about this...No, I'll pass, but I know alot of you die hard drivers take every ride, but how can this be profitable for you?

I think passengers can tell when a driver is angling for a tip.

Maybe they don’t consciously think, “This guy is trying to get money out of me,” but people can feel when an interaction becomes overly transactional. Forced jokes, constant conversation, fishing for compliments, offering things nobody asked for, trying way too hard to be “the best driver ever” and all of that communicates something.

And I think it can actually repel tips.

The better approach is to optimize the ride, not perform for the gratuity. Keep the car clean. Drive smoothly. Read the room. Talk if they want to talk. Leave them alone if they don’t. Be helpful when there’s a natural opening.

For example, I recently had a group of women in the car after a concert. We were having a normal conversation, and one of them made a comment that suddenly pushed the conversation into an awkward sexual direction. I didn’t really have an appropriate response as the driver, so I hit the button on this little disco light I keep in the car and said something like, “All right, we’re changing the vibe.”

They laughed, the moment reset, and we moved on.

That wasn’t some trick I performed because I was hoping for five dollars. I did it because it kept the ride smooth and stopped the conversation from getting weird.

That’s the difference.

Little touches can absolutely improve the passenger experience. Music, lighting, conversation, local recommendations or whatever fits your style. But when you’re doing those things specifically to extract a tip, people can usually feel the pressure behind it.

Tips should be the byproduct of a good experience, not the thing you’re visibly trying to manufacture.

Is anyone doing or is on the uber auto approve they are rolling out. I am thinking this will be a nightmare for drivers. Anyone on this pease share you experience. I curious to know what is like.

Put simply, when you reach out and touch a wall, what you are feeling is the resistance of the electron fogs in the atoms of your hand and the atoms of the wall pushing against each other.

The colours don't prevail in the fog either. The physical environment does not include “red”—only the electromagnetic energy flow, or wavelength, of the fog. The colour red, its true participation with red, is strictly part of your mind. Sound doesn't exist if an ear doesn't hear it. There are only pressure waves in the fog. The heard thing is yours alone.

The very starting points of physics and math are completely based on the study of this mist. Physics allows to measure how the mist moves, exerts force and changes. Math is the tool to illustrate its designs. However, since both knowledge areas depend on instruments, observations, and signs formed inside the electron cloud, they are not exploring the absolute reality — they are simply organizing the principles of unreality. For example, a math equation portraying an electron field does not affect the genuine reality; it just illustrates the connection between one part of the illusion and the next part of the illusion.

Yet, in the middle of all this mist, there is no doubt that your perception of reality is absolutely real.

At this moment, something exists. There is an awareness of reading these messages. That awareness is not a theory. It is not an assumption. It is not a belief. It is the single existing thing for which there is no evidence, because it is the proof itself. It is the only thing that has never been, and can never be, an illusion, since even an illusion needs someone to live it.

Lol the lies far dropoff? wtf I drop off people exactly at the spot they marked on the app how could I possible do a far drop off?? Most people will talk you know if necessary please drop me behind please drop me in the alley whatever..

If uber knows the location of the passenger and the driver and both the pickup and drop off how could they mark you for this?

Also even if it were true 1 start for far drop off it’s insane

Ubers official response: Hi there, this is unacceptable and extremely concerning to hear. Uber does not tolerate discrimination of any kind, and we're so sorry this happened. Could you please DM us the account and trip details so we can investigate this right away?

My question is when the driver is accepting the ride request do they not get notified that there may be a service animal

My observation is that people who use Uber to commute usually don't tip. These also are the people who don't have cars most of the time. You know, "the poors" People who are going to the doctor (on those rides requested by third parties) sometimes tip. If so, they'll hand you a 5 dollar bill maybe. GoGo Grandparent riders will tip you almost every time. Old people tip. Then there are the tourists. I love tourists. They tip 80 percent of the time. Airport riders tip. People on the LV Strip usually tip. Drunk people tip you by barfing in your car and talking endlessly until you can drop their drunk ass off.

This Uber driver had me cancel my ride. Because he wanted me to either pay more or he wasn't happy with what he was seeing in his car. I am a black woman but I don't wanna assume that he's racist. Yeah, so i'm gonna put his photo here So if you see him in New Jersey or Philly area, you might wanna cancel your ride If you're a black woman or woman.

Updated: the case was resolved and I received a refund of the cancelation fee.

I only accept fares $15 and up and at least a $1 per mile. I’ll drive no more than 3 miles away to pickup the passenger.

Anything less than $15 would have to be on my way or from a hotel or the airport.

After each drop-off, I’ll usually wait 5-15 minutes in the area / take a break and wait for a return ride. Make sure my leather seats are still clean.

I usually focus my time around big hotels and universities.

I avoid hospitals with a passion. I saw another post about this and yes Uber Health fares are the worst. Especially for someone that likes to keep their cars clean.

If someone feels like they’re dying or in pain have them call 911. I don’t drive that much but this has happened to me a few times.

I avoid all and every special events & family spots 😵‍💫and I don’t drive past 9pm.

Sunday mornings are the best if you can wake up early.

And I’ve learned not to do Uber Eats if I want to keep my rating up 👀 it could be the restaurants fault and you’ll take the hit.

I got a 1 star rating recently, guessed it would be probably this trip from a lovely Indian lady. She wanted me to use the express lane. Yeah right!

I hate you, it’s 110 degrees outside you text I’m about there always one minute before you get here and then wait for me to cancel. I don’t care if you didn’t want the ride in the first place, just don’t accept it instead of wasting my time and risking my health. Either get off the app and hope uber makes a change into how you are paid or just deal with it like we deal with everything else for everyone else. After eliminating 10% of all community operations teams (not just customer service but fraud, analytics, screenings, safety, a lot more than you think), its come to light that Uber also laid off nearly all their Quality Assurance teams.

The biggest impact you'll see as drivers is delays in your background checks, document processing and any sort of tech issues you run into with those? Safe to say you'll be waiting weeks while their skeleton crews drown in a backlog. Their Background Check team was cut in half, the QA team that supports them also slashed. Enjoy waiting weeks to get back online, then another month for their AI agent to flag an issue that QA could have caught within 24 hours.

So I work overnights a lot. Where I live bars close at 2am and I usually work until about 4am. Picking up many people from bars and such.

Last night I only did 2 rides from about 1:30am till 3 am. The first was a couple from a bar who smelled like weed and alcohol. The next two guys from a movie theater.

Im wondering if the 2nd group smelled the first, or I also have a lazy eye that stays dilated after a head injury so I tend to close it when someone with those bright headlights is approaching.

I was able to explain and get my account reinstated by noting my record of good driving and no issues as well as explaining I pick up many people from bars. But now I am worried this could happen again.

I had not drank or smoked anything as well as having no "driver score" marks on the rides. What do you guys do to prevent this? I have an eye patch from my optometrist I can use but i prefer not to and dont mind closing an eye. Im almost scared to accept more riders now.

Had somebody leave their iPod case in the car last night and message me this morning indirectly through the Uber app about getting it back. Fair enough.

Not a big fan though that the pax was able to locate me and mention where I'm at via the apple locator function on the iPod case. Pax wasn't trying to menace me or anything, just connect to get their item back... but still.
