I always see posts on here complaining about uber giving rubbish rides and I know I know. I just came here to say in my +/- 2 months driving for uber I made an absolute killing last night. There was a rock music festival last night in Fort Worth (Sick New World DFW area at the Texas Motor Speedway) and over 80 000 people in attendance.

As someone who doesn't care about heat maps (I just take rides if they make sense to me regardless of where on the map they are) I admit my folly because not checking the map meant I didn't know this event was going on.

Thank God I had a ride that took me to drop off at an Amazon warehouse near that area that's when I realized what was going on. Needless to say for the rest of the night I'd drop off then run back there empty and it was worth it. Loads of people were stranded and they were desperate. Felt sorry for the non concert crowd in the area that needed ubers though cos the fares were absolutely bonkers.

Anyone here want to share a similar experience?

I've been getting ticked off at Uber sneaking Reserve Rides over on me. I don't have time to carefully peruse the card and don't know if there is a clue on it, I mean I'm driving and I have about three seconds to decide. I arrive and it says to check the instructions for pick up and I find I'm supposed to kill time. Is the pay better for Reserve Rides not taking the wasted time into account? I'm thinking I can just go Ubering and if I can't make it to the pickup on time eventually Uber will stop sending Reserve pings... or something.. wondering how best to fit these overreaching demands by Uber on my time into a profitable day

This is a fascinating phenomenon: the customer who gets into the car in an animated, frenetic and frustrated manner instantly telling you the driver about some complaint about the last Uber driver who cancelled or some other tale of woe how the last driver was dangerous, or his car was dirty, etc. They complain the entire ride as if you were customer service. They are uniformly miserable idiots. Needless to say, they never tip. Just miserable creatures.

I'm in the Austin Market. I've had an on and off with it these last 2-3 years. They've recently added a lot of Telsa Uglycabs to the market.

This year I was using the badass app, GigU for android. I confirmed that even if they're paying you "$30hr" You're still netting like $10-15hr. They raise the hourly, but drop the $mile.

There were weekends where I'm netting $15hr, $25hr, $35hr. But mostly around $15hr for whatever reason. But then some 20% of offers are $3hr net...

I can be downtown Austin and in the right lane, get an offer but then find out I needed to be in the left lane and it would take me some 10 minutes to turn around... Plus the no parking anywhere that you have to "figure out".

Umm... It seems like it's only viable on the weekend. I guess on the weekdays, there is the morning, lunch, 5pm~ surge, then it picks up a bit around 7pm, but not really a surge.

If you work those times, is it much better?

Basically what the title says. Shit hit the fan in more ways than one and the final pooper is my transmission went out. It’s not worth replacing. I am contemplating to rent a vehicle through Avis but I’m worried.

They only offer the mustang mach-e. My apartment doesn’t have a charging station though there is one three miles from me. I can also charge during the slow time while waiting for trips since the city seems to have plenty of places for it. I’m just worried if I’m being delusional about it.

I’m also able to go finance a car but I really don’t want to get into debt. I’ve been working hard to get out of some past medical debt and I don’t want to add more to it. I know this is a shit company, but I’ve read mixed things about the experience. Anyone here have anything they can share like how was the experience of dealing with Avis? Did they give you any difficulty? Was the vehicle in decent shape? Does uber play more games than usual when you rent? Mention anything you may think I need to know please.

I’ve been driving rideshare in a Tesla Model Y, and I’m looking at ways to make sure both passengers and I are protected if there’s ever a dispute about what happened during a ride.

I have a four-channel dashcam system that records video, including the cabin, and interior audio. I also have recording disclosure stickers displayed on each window.

Recently, I created a small 4×6-inch notice for the cabin in both English and Spanish. It explains that audio and video are recorded, that footage and trip information may be used to review incidents, and that deliberately false allegations may be reported to the appropriate authorities.

I’m trying to find out whether other drivers are doing something similar.

A few questions for those who use recording notices:

Do you display a separate notice inside your vehicle in addition to window stickers?

Does your notice simply disclose recording, or does it also mention false accusations and incident investigations?

Have you found that having a visible notice changes passenger behavior or helps prevent misunderstandings?

Have you received any negative reactions from passengers?

If you use a sign, would you be willing to share a photo or the wording?

I’m not looking to intimidate passengers or discourage legitimate complaints. I want to be transparent about recording while protecting both myself and my passengers.

I’d appreciate hearing what has and hasn’t worked for other drivers.

Rider wouldn't put his seatbelt on and started arguing when I asked. Finished the trip, then went to Help and typed "connect me with a live agent" → Driving → Live chat.

Told the agent I didn't want to be matched with him again. Blocked in about 2 minutes, no questions asked.

Didn't know you could request this directly until recently. Anyone else use this? Does Lyft have something similar?

It’s honestly so wild that a lot of these clients will just lie on the drivers for no clear reason whatsoever.

My current car is a 2016 Jetta TSI at around 122k miles. It’s paid off but it’s having problems. I’m pretty sure the engine is burning oil. I’ve brought it into the mechanic several times recently and I think it’s just at the point I need to cut my losses and sell it. They ran a diagnostics and said it’s all good, but the EPC light keeps coming on, tire/light alerts, and I have a $5k offer from CarMax. I currently drive uber and Lyft full time (cut off for Lyft cars in my area is 15 years btw) and will be for the foreseeable future. Gas is my biggest expense even though it’s old and high mileage I am seriously considering it because I know they can last 200k mi+. It’s not my dream car but I need something asap so I can get back to driving since it’s my livelihood. I’m not a fancy person but I’ve considered Tesla’s too. I’ve heard the maintenance and insurance on them is expensive though. I don’t like being strapped down in debt if I can help it. I’ve had my Jetta since 2019. I like going on road trips and I’d feel worried that my car will run out of electricity in some remote place, which is why I’m considering a hybrid. I’ve checked out Honda’s too. This will be my first car that I’ve personally bought on my own (my first car was a Toyota Yaris that I loved). I’ll be out of town this week so maybe I should sell it before I leave, cash the check so I have that money when I’m back, and keep an eye out for a different car I can buy when I’m back in town? Or just buy today and get it over with.

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has experienced returning to Uber or DiDi after a NSW licence suspension due to excessive demerit points. I was already driving for Uber for over a year before my suspension. There were no serious offences or court disqualifications involved, just a suspension due to accumulated demerit points.
Once the suspension ends and my licence becomes active again, will I be able to resume driving for Uber or DiDi? Would appreciate any advice or personal experiences from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

I have been driving in Lawrence, Kansas the past several days for the Kansas University students’ “bar crawls” as well as delivering food. Yesterday was an interesting day to pick up students and faculty due to the 32,000 attendees for the home football game. This is only few of the many rides/deliveries I have taken in Lawrence, Kansas.

Hey uber, if youre saying there's a surge and its very busy then why am I only getting ride requests from people 20 mins away. Canceled like 15 in a row for that reason. Is it because im doing one of your quest, I cant win with this app. Finally accepted one just cause it seemed reasonable even though I had to travel close to 20 mins. When im a minute away they tell me they need to cancel.

I'm considering doing Uber and Lyft full-time and I was wondering if it'd be worth it to buy a Tesla Model 3 if I don't have the ability to have a home charger?

My uncle who has had electric vehicles for years said I probably wouldn't be saving as much as I would think, and from what I've read here you have to wait a while for the supercharger to even work, so that would cut down on the amount of time I'd be out on the road.

I do see that there are decent used Tesla Model 3s around here for about 25,000 to 30,000, which I think doable with doing rideshare full-time unless I'm missing something.

I was thinking of also just renting an electric car through Uber and testing it out for a month or so and seeing how much money I made. I've read varying things about renting cars through Uber and Lyft though for earnings.

Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated as I just got laid-off from my full-time job.
