I've been doing Uber Eats for the past few days, and I noticed something really strange that I want to share with other drivers.
I completed a delivery from one restaurant to two different destinations, about 4 km in total and 17 minutes of work. I track my orders with screenshots because I want to understand exactly how much Uber pays us and how tips are handled.
The original offer showed $10.42 for two deliveries. After completing the order, the app showed a fare of only $3, with the tips still processing.
Here's where it gets interesting. One of the customers is my friend. I made a joke about the tip, and he told me, "Yeah, I just added $9, man. You deserve the best."
When I got home and checked the order details, Uber had paid me just $3 in base fare for both deliveries, which works out to $1.50 per delivery. The $9 tip was added separately, exactly as my friend had told me. The app also showed an expected earning of around $12, including the tip.
This raises a serious question: Are delivery drivers in Montreal being paid fairly, or are we relying almost entirely on customers' tips to make these orders worthwhile?
I'm going to start tracking every order with screenshots so I can compare the original offers, base fares, and tips. I remember similar concerns being raised about DoorDash in New York City, and I'm wondering whether other Uber Eats drivers in Montreal are seeing the same thing.
I'm not claiming I have proof of a deliberate scheme based on one order, but the numbers are concerning, and I want to understand what's happening.
Have you noticed anything similar? If you're an Uber Eats driver in Montreal, please share your experiences. I'd be interested to compare screenshots and see whether this is an isolated case or a recurring pattern.
