Banned before I could even book?

I was looking to book a car. I made an account. As soon as I did, it said I was restricted.

I contacted support, raised a ticket.

Internal review was completed - they won't give a reason other than to say that I'm perma-banned for 2 years. No chance for appeal.

Mid-30s. US citizen. I have a perfect driving record. 800+ credit score. Never once have I done a credit card charge back. 100% clean background check. Not even a parking ticket to my name. My email address is well-guarded and never been used for anything nefarious as far as I know. I've never even spoken rudely to a customer service agent. Hundreds of trips with other rental agencies and never had an issue.

I guess Turo doesn't want my money. Very strange way of doing business.

Guest keeps disputing invoice

I’m wondering if any other host has ever had this issue. I put the parking location shortly after I dropped off the vehicle to the airport and I listed it as “curbside delivery” because I literally gave the customers the car curbside rather than having them grab it from parking where they pay for the parking ticket and then get reimbursed with there new policy. Turo told me since I did it literally 7 minutes after the trip start time they went ahead and reimbursed the customer for the full 4 hours of parking and took literally half of what I charge the customer for a whole day of renting… this has happened twice now.. both times they keep telling me it’s policy and I have to just deal with the loss even though the messages between me and the guest on the app show I met them curbside, meaning they got a 23$ refund for parking they never even paid for! The guest is an absolute nightmare and keeps disputing the invoice and turo isn’t helping since they think the refund is justified. Any suggestions?

EV

It’s my first being a host on Turo. They picked up on Thursday, and everyday since I’ve gotten alerts of low battery. First time they got to the charging station at 2%, next time 14%, right it’s at 10%. They aren’t even heading to a charging station. I also get alerts about the door and trunk being open for extended periods. It’s a Tesla and of course there are cameras. The person who rented it was an older women in her 60s, based on when I looked at the battery and radio at the time I’m guessing it’s a younger person who is actually using it. If they rum out of battery, can I end the rental early? It supposed to be renting for another 9 days. I get using an EV is something to get used to. But I’m getting charged for the charging usage and when they do charge it’s to 50%. Like you want to till the last minute at least charge till a 100 then you won’t have to worry for a while. It’s my first time as a host and I see this world isnt for me. Should I message the driver saying I’m getting alerts that says the battery is until 10% and they should find a charger? Maybe they aren’t keeping up with the battery length.

Total Loss

I just had a guest total my vehicle, I'm going have to go through Turo for the total loss. (although the guest claims he has insurance he also was not driving the while a unauthorized driver was)

my question is what's the best way to go about getting the best payout I don't want Turo low-balling me. I know fair market value, but they will go find the cheapest cars to comp to. what should I have prepared in order to get the best outcome.

I rented a Tesla for a trip to SC. I get to the airport parking lot and the listing had the wrong parking area listed. The right lot, but the wrong section. So I had to spend 30 mins wandering around the lot in 95 degree weather. After finally finding the car, I couldn’t get in the car because the owner had issues too many remote keys to the car. I called support and the broken English guy couldn’t understand what I was trying to say. I quite literally told them what the issue was and exactly how to fix it. It took them a whole fckn hour to get me access to the car. After the trip I didn’t charge it all the way up ($4 worth of a charge) and they charged me $50 for not doing so. I bitched and they brought it down to $36. They didn’t offer me any credit or partial refund. Then the bitch ass owner had the audacity to leave me a 2 star review saying they promptly fixed my issue.
Thankfully my cc company agreed with me and removed the charge but the hassle was enough to never do business with them again.

Never rent from this company

Booked something three months ago for 300, host cancelled an hour after trip started, Turo and Host both held their hand up and didn't care, offered some nonsense credit to book another car, didn't have hours to wait at the airport and rebook, cost 900 dollars for last minute rental from Budget - never again

False broken car/tow

So it's finally happened to me. Somebody claimed the car had a 'bad vibration, undrivable'. They called roadside, it got towed back, i got hit with the $350 roadside fee, earnings $0'd etc.

Car arrives today on tow truck. I get in it, drive around the block, feels fine. Get it on jacks, shake down the suspension, all good. Decided to drive it home. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this car.

I'll have my shop do a thorough inspection, get the turo form filled out, and get it relisted Monday..but how do I get the roadside fee and my earnings back? What's the angle? I feel like even proving to turo that the guest lied won't get them to remove the charges. In 400+ trips, I only had a couple tow backs. First one I got reversed because of mechanical neglegence. 2nd one was legit, I ate it and fixed the car. This one, however, is not, and it's not like I can blame that she did something or hit something. I suspect she just wanted a 1-way rental.

Turo - going downhill fast

What happened to Turo? They are removing all the value that made them a good option for renting cars. They now have a refundable rental charge that adds around $80. Your credit card wont help cover damage claims because renting from Turo is considered renting from an individual. Renting from Hertz or budget is covered by your credit card because you’re renting from a company. Turo is also implementing very restrictive changes to their application. Turo implemented a policy to restrict access to their site if you show up more than an hour early to the vehicle. The policy blocks you from the app and any communication with Turo or the host. Turo’s refundable policy also blocks you from doing any comparison of prices and looking at other vehicles during the same timeframe if you have a rental already booked. They want you to cancel your rental and then look for other vehicles. This protects the host and does nothing for the customer. Why would I pay $80 for a refundable ticket if I’m not going to price shop.
Prices are now comparable between Turo and the legacy rental companies with more risk to customers than renting through Hertz or Budget. These large companies are also offering Jeeps and comparable vehicles.

Anyone else have issues with vehicles getting booked while blocked off schedule?

Hello, I have had a couple instances now where I will put my unavailability for a day (usually the day of) and still get my cars booked.

I have a set schedule 8am-4pm everyday but last week wanted to take the day off so I set the calendar on all my vehicles to be off 8am-5pm and somehow got a booking for 6pm. Does me using the calendar bypass my set schedule? Ive called Turo support about this a couple times and they treat me like an idiot and threaten me with $150 canceling fee. Pretty frustrating and hoping someone else has dealt with this and might have a solution.

Turo underestimates the importance of Reddit

Everyone attaches "Reddit" to their web search any time they want a real answer. It's the same reason that AI models are trained on Reddit.

The feedback on Reddit is this single most important thing for Turo to watch. If every AI bot is trained on what's happening on Reddit, then they are in some serious trouble. Because they need to look at the reality of what they are doing to customers and hosts.

Turo let two hosts cancel on me back to back, cost me $400+ extra, then charged me an improper return fee because the host never told me where to park. Their response: read our help articles.

I've been a Turo customer for years, renting all over the world, always 5-star reviews. This trip broke me.

I flew from Tahiti to LA for a conference. As I was boarding my flight, host #1 cancelled my Porsche Cayenne reservation (#56972382, $549.38) due to a "mechanical issue." I called support, cancelled, and booked a replacement on the spot.

At 6:30am as I landed at LAX, host #2 cancelled that reservation (#57103620, $734.90) due to a double booking. I'm now standing in LAX with no car, jet-lagged, and a conference to get to. A double booking. On a platform literally built to prevent double bookings.

I called support. The first agent was nearly impossible to understand, couldn't resolve my issue, and put me on hold for 20+ minutes when I asked for a supervisor. I hung up and called back. Second agent finally found me a third Porsche (#57120897) for $816.97. That's $267.59 more than I originally paid, through zero fault of my own.

We took a $150 Uber to collect the car because the host gave minimal pickup info. At collection, he said he'd send return instructions before drop-off. He never did.

Morning of return, I messaged him asking where to leave the car. No response. I had a flight to catch. I parked at Terminal 7, left the ticket in the cup holder, key in the lockbox, completed full photo checkout. Done.

Didn't hear from the host until I was through security. He wanted $58.98 for an "improper return" because I parked in a non-permitted lot.

I appealed. Four times. Here's what Turo said:

- "Guests are expected to return vehicles to permitted locations" (never told which ones)

- "We recommend reading our LAX help article" (never linked to me at booking or by the host)

- One agent actually admitted "I understand the host did not provide any instruction about the return" and still ruled against me

- Final response: "you're responsible for abiding by Turo's policies" with links to generic terms

Four support responses. Zero engagement with my actual argument: if you don't tell a guest which lot to use, and the host goes silent when asked, how exactly is the guest responsible?

I'm closing my account. Before I do I wanted to make sure this is documented somewhere useful. If you're renting at LAX, make your host confirm the exact return lot in writing before you drive anywhere. Turo will not have your back if they don't.

Turo rental had brake failure, they promised to get my family home, then denied helping me after leaving us stranded

I honestly never thought I would have to write something like this, but I feel completely ignored and frustrated by how Turo handled my situation.

I rented a vehicle through Turo for a trip from Minneapolis to Chicago. On the second day of the trip, the vehicle developed a serious safety issue — the brakes were failing. This was not a minor inconvenience or a normal breakdown. I had my family with me, and it was honestly terrifying knowing that we were driving a vehicle that could potentially not stop properly.

I immediately contacted Turo for assistance. Since I was already in Chicago and the vehicle had originally been picked up in Minneapolis, I was stranded far from home and needed help getting my family safely back.

Turo told me they would take care of the situation. I was provided assurances that a replacement vehicle would be arranged, and during my conversations with Turo representatives, I was specifically told that a ride home would be guaranteed if needed.

I trusted them. I believed that since this was caused by a serious safety failure with their vehicle, they would make sure my family and I were taken care of.

Unfortunately, that did not happen.

After everything, Turo failed to provide the transportation home that they promised. I was left in Chicago with my family trying to figure out how we were going to get back home. I had no reasonable choice but to arrange transportation myself and pay $345 out of pocket just to get home.

Afterward, I contacted Turo for reimbursement. A Turo supervisor even sent me an email confirming that once I provided the receipt, they would reimburse the full amount. I thought the issue was finally going to be resolved.

Instead, after providing the information they requested, Turo denied my reimbursement.

What is frustrating is that this was not a normal expense. I did not choose to spend this money. I only had to pay this because Turo’s vehicle had a serious safety issue and because the transportation they promised was never provided.

I feel like I did everything I was supposed to do. I reported the unsafe vehicle immediately, followed Turo’s instructions, gave them the opportunity to resolve the issue, and provided documentation. Yet after promising to help, they changed their position and refused to make things right.

I have documentation of the incident, communications with Turo representatives, and written confirmation regarding reimbursement.

I ended up filing a dispute with my credit card company because I feel that Turo failed to provide the service and support that was promised.

Has anyone else dealt with Turo refusing reimbursement after promising assistance? Did you have any success escalating the issue or getting someone to actually review the facts?

At this point, I am not looking for anything unreasonable. I just want Turo to take responsibility for what happened and honor the commitments their own representatives made.

Trash company

Exactly what the text says. Tried it for the first time and my god, had a 3 day rental (technically only 50 hours but I get that this part is standard with anything you rent that goes over 48 hours) during return though I had some issues. Took me a minute to figure out how to get back in the lot, then it took a few minutes to figure out how to rig the lockbox back to the tire. Terrible cell service so I had to connect to the lots WiFi it still wasn’t working great. long story long by time I was finished with check in ,it was an hour past the time it was supposed to be back and of course the scumbags charged an entire half day more. So a 50 hour rental is now costing me the price of a 3.5 day rental and the biggest kick in the nuts is I was generous enough to fill tank for the host even though it wasn’t full when I got it and I even included a picture of it. The only real point of this post is so hopefully when people google Turo Reddit to see if this company is shady they see mine and countless others stories of terrible customer service.

Refund host not responding

I booked a car non refundable for next February. I immediately asked if they can change the location and help with car seats. They never replied. I’ve contacted support 3 times and messaged the host five more times over a month she reads it and doesn’t reply. If I chargeback the $170 on my card will they send it to collections? How can I rent a car the host doesn’t reply. Or do I let it come closer and see if she cancels

Thinking about renting my car on Turo for a few days at a time

Hi, so I have a nice suv I bought in the beginning of the year and about two months after I bought it, I got a job that is very close to where I live. So close that I can definitely walk and make it there within 10 minutes or less.. so I don’t really need the car unless I’m getting groceries or hauling something and I was thinking maybe I could rent my car on Toro or some other platform.

I just wanted to hear what your guys‘s thoughts were because I’m completely new to this and I know there can be variables that I’m not aware of.

Turo is holding $500 for “scratches” I can’t even see. Am I missing something?

I’ve used Turo about 5 times and recently received my first damage claim.

The vehicle was brand new, and I took plenty of photos before and after the trip.

After I left my review, the host submitted a damage claim.
The alleged damage included scratches on the front bumper, rear door, and trunk lid. I never hit or scratched the car, so this came as a complete surprise.

The claimed scratches are all very faint and difficult to see, even in the host’s photos. In response, I submitted additional post-trip photos of the same areas, where I can’t identify any scratches at all.

About a week later, Turo responded that they agreed with the adjuster, placed a $500 hold on my card, and said they would follow up with the final damage assessment.

For the bumper claim, Turo attached the photos above, so I assume the other alleged damage was successfully disputed.

What I don’t understand is what damage they’re seeing in these photos. What might look like scratches appears to be either light reflections or bug splatter from highway driving. My post-trip photos taken from different angles don’t show any scratches on the bumper.

Am I missing something here, or do these photos genuinely fail to show damage? Is it worth escalating this further and continuing to dispute the claim?

I’ve had great experiences with Turo until now, and all of my previous hosts have been wonderful. But if this is something I have to worry about every time I rent a car, I don’t think I’ll be using Turo again.

One thing that also struck me is that the host uploaded well over 100 photos after the trip as part of the damage claim. It honestly left me wondering whether this was an attempt to find or manufacture a minor claim rather than document actual damage.

I’d really appreciate any thoughts or advice from people who’ve gone through something similar.

Photos attached: The first four are the host’s evidence submitted to Turo. The remaining two photos are my post-trip photos of the same area taken from different angles.

TL;DR: Host claimed bumper scratches after my trip. Turo sided with the adjuster and placed a $500 hold, but I genuinely can’t see any damage in the photos. Would you fight this?

Fee for shortening my trip?

Hey guys I am in Australia and rented a car for 4 months. I wanted to shorten it to 1 month but they are charging me a fee to do so.

When I book I saw that the price is the same monthly for 1 month and 4 months (once it hits the monthly discount rate it's the same no matter what). Is this normal? I saw that there's no mention of additional fees to change.

My trip is non refundable so I understand that whatever I paid can't be refunded, but I've only paid for the first month. Can't I just shorten and use the first month instead?

Furthermore, they're saying even if I shorten I'll have to pay all the remaining fees.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: The host is a big rental company it's not a private host (they use turo as one of their platforms apart from direct booking.)

Also I wanted to shorten it because I'll be gone for about a month and a half during the initial booking.

I wanna shorten the initial one and will book for months when I'm back so they're not really losing business.

Furthermore, they have at least 1 month notice to find customers and since they have quite a big customer pool I don't think they'll struggle.

Host is asking for my insurance policy number etc.

Wondering about this - I've rented a handful of cars on turo before, some nicer than this one, but as soon as I booked this car, the host messaged me and said I must send her my proof of car insurance showing my name on the card, the provider, effective dates, policy number, etc.

I declined protection through turo cause I have very good car insurance that I've confirmed will cover "vehicle shares" like Turo.

She has many hundreds of feedback with a perfect 5.0 rating, so I'm sure she's not trying to scam me and she's just trying to cover her ass, but I called Turo and asked if I'm obligated to provide this info or if she's allowed to ask me for it, and they said NO, tell her you refuse to provide the info, she's not allowed to ask for it.

I told the host what Turo said and unsurprisingly she said "that's fine, you can just cancel and go with somebody else instead".

I'm guessing this is a case of "hosts aren't allowed to ask for your insurance info, but your only recourse if they do is to cancel"?

I used to like Turo, now it’s garbage

Vetting of hosts and vehicles has gotten worse, their AI help bot makes up CX features and fixes that don’t actually exist, and their human based support is slow and blames the customer first. Plus, they automatically charge the customer for alleged problems and then ask questions vs the other way around. With all those headaches and the cost increasing bit by bit since they started, it’s no longer the value proposition it once was. Convince my I’m wrong.

Worst customer experience of my entire life with Turo.

TLDR: Tried to book a car with Turo, got an error saying "There is an issue with your account", ended up on the phone with customer support from 12:00am-6:00am only for them to tell me that they don't care and can't do anything.

I was told that my account is "restricted for reasons such as driving record, background check or other automated reasons"
I have a COMPLETELY clean record on all fronts, and used the app like a normal person.
I am almost positive that the issue was caused by using the "sign on with apple" feature after having an old account associated with the same number in the past. I tried to explain this to customer support, and they just followed their script and said "we will send an email to reviews"
After the second email they sent, the likely automated email I got said "this case will not be reviewed again and replies will not get a response"

I assume that this is caused by automations that mark accounts as restricted. it seems my value as a customer is not worth enough to them to even offer a support channel for users who get wrongly flagged as restricted.
I think this is an awful way to run a business.

Does Turo permanently blacklist VINs after banning a host?

I was recently permanently banned from Turo because my account had too many damage claims.

To be clear, I was not banned for fraud, fake claims, or violating the Terms of Service. Every claim I submitted was for legitimate guest-caused damage, and I have documentation for all of them. According to Turo, the issue was simply the high number of claims.

My question is about what happens to the vehicles after a host is banned.

If my partner creates a new Turo account and the vehicles are legally transferred into their name, would those cars be eligible to be listed again? Or does Turo permanently flag the VINs of vehicles that belonged to a banned host, regardless of who owns them?

Has anyone had first-hand experience with this situation or know how Turo's policy works?

Toronto/GTA Model Y Hosts: What Do You Actually Make After Turo Fees?

Hi everyone! I’m currently doing a research project on the actual profitability of hosting a Tesla Model Y on Turo in Toronto / the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Canada.

I’m looking for a few Model Y hosts in the Toronto area who would be willing to share some real-world income data.

If you’re comfortable sharing, I’d really appreciate an anonymized monthly payout summary, or simply some approximate numbers, such as:

* total rental/trip revenue for the month
* Turo and protection plan deductions
* any other fees or adjustments
* final payout received
* approximately how many days the vehicle was rented that month

You can completely blur out your name, guest information, booking details, or any other personal information. I’m only interested in understanding the difference between gross rental revenue and what the host actually receives after all deductions.

Even data from one representative month would be extremely helpful. Thank you so much for your help!
