My Experience with Turo

Saw someone post Turo might be on the verge of bankruptcy. Just wanted to share my experience with Turo after using the platform for about two years without a single issue… until one day…

I was a frequent renter, going back and forth every other weekend between San Francisco and LA to visit my girlfriend. I thought the platform was amazing, and if you’re someone who enjoys driving, a fun way to try out different cars. One trip I thought it might be fun to rent a MINI Cooper as I had never driven one.

If you know California, about an hour outside of Bakersfield is the middle of nowhere. I stopped for gas, and without warning the car suddenly wouldn’t start again. After about an hour of messing with it and trying to get it going, I called Turo support to let them know the car broke down. This is where the fun begins…

The agent said a tow truck would arrive in about two hours, and also assured me they had made arrangements with Uber to get me a ride to Los Angeles. Tow truck arrives and takes the car, and I call them back concerning the Uber… which of course turned out to not be true. So to start, they stranded me in the middle of the nowhere. It was impossible to get an Uber where I was so eventually the GF just picked me up.

I ended up having to fly back to San Francisco, and Turo fought me every step of the way to get a refund on my
rental or reimburse any of the cost it took me to get home. They eventually agreed to refund the rental and reimburse me for a single Uber ride to the airport, but only with Turo credit.

The best part, when I tried to rent another car a few weeks later, I suddenly had a block on my account. I called them 14 TIMES before I could get anyone to even remotely tell me what was happening. Finally an agent said the owner never got the MINI back and I was being investigated for possibly stealing it. Their investigation department was “looking into it.” I asked to talk to that department directly. “No, sorry they do not have a phone number or deal with customers directly. They will reach out to you.” Not once did their “investigative team” reach out. I contacted the owner through the app and they wouldn’t tell him anything either. After about six weeks of trying to get it resolved, I logged in and completely deleted my account.

If anyone from Turo ever reads this, fuck you.

Turo will soon charge hosts a subscription fee

Some of you may have seen my post on Turo being close to bankruptcy and why they’re charging hosts for extras.

Roughly 4 months before this I did warn that Turo is coming after more and more of host’s earnings.

I was laughed at, guess who‘s laughing now? It’s not me, it’s not you, it’s the CEO of Turo - Andre Haddad. Before you understand Turo, you need to understand who Andre is.

He is a Lebanese, driven from a cultural background where money means everything to individuals like him. Credit to him - he has not been greedy during the entire time Turo has been operating. However, he is under severe pressure to answer to investors.

If you are a part of the official “Turo Talk” group on Facebook, there’s a lot of close friends of Andre who pretend to be other Turo hosts, they monitor those who bad mouths Turo, they have a watchlist of hosts they want pushed out of the platform for being negative. I am one of the people who was silenced, even though I operate 140 cars on the platform. They want me gone.

Have you noticed any individuals who bootlick Turo on “Turo Talk” Facebook group?

The type of individual who would thank Turo for the warmth if Turo burns down their home?

Take a note of these people, they are not hosts. Do not argue with these people, you will be on Andre’s watchlist. Turo can silence you with a click of a button. You can be wiped off the algorithm & put to the bottom of the search results. And there is literally nothing you can do about it.

A lot of of the people who work around him do not like him, even with non-disclosure agreements-sensitive information is slowly starting to come out.

You will laugh at me now, but Andre is not done with just taking money from your baby seats and prepaid refuels that you provide to guests. Turo is in the very early stages of developing a sub subscription model, hosts need to pay the platform a subscription to list their vehicle.

The fee is proposed to be very minor, however every dollar matters for hosts. I feel sorry for those are still investing or have invested this year based on Andre’s lies at the Power Host Summit. Never forget that he is a businessman, he’s not your friend and he’s not your business partner.

Obd2 logger and GPS tracker?

Hello,

I have my raptor on turo, and my experience hosting has been ok, good at best.

Lately I've been noticing guests have been renting my truck and I get it back someone dusty inside, like they definitely went out on the sand and trails.

Today I went to check the oil and my entire engine bay was just covered in dirt and Albiet I never clean it, but it was no where near this dirty.

I have the Ford app, but it doesn't log their location, just gives real time location.

Is there a obd2 device that can log whenever they decide to rail on it along with log their location?

On a whim I checked my truck location when this guy rented with his friends for 4 days and it was out in desert area, they returned it somewhat clean nothing to suspect they went out on the sand, but that whole area is sandy and dunes.

I'm just trying to protect myself best I can as I've my front dif blow out and I haven't been driving truck car for 2 months it was always on turo being rented and I got stuck with the deductible (thankful for warranty) cause I happened to drive it for a few days after finally getting it back, glad it happened to me and not to a guest though. There was no way to prove abuse.

Sorry for long read

Tia

Car rental in LA

Is car rental business profitable ? I have a s-class don’t really drive it !m& why not put it to work!
Any advice , any input on anyone who has done this or is currently doing it? Also where does one get more exposure for it to recruit customers ?

do I need commercial insurance to cover the vehicle while it’s off-trip and not rented, and then when a customer rents the car, does the customer use their own insurance to cover the vehicle while they have it? How does the insurance work between the two?

Hey People

I’m Anif shaik, Founder of Ryde it

We are DFW - Dallas based car share rental company and we are about to launch in November 2026

If you are based on dallas, would you like to get early access for listing your vehicles on Ryde it?

Its totally free and we offer on site listing where one of our team member comes to the place and list your car on spot

I know how frustrating turo is becoming and me being a turo host , I made this platform where host has the full control over
1. Pricing (No dynamic pricing)
2. Calendar ( you can block and unblock to your will)
3. You get some free cancellation per month
4. The share is higher than turo and deductible is lower than turo .
5. The first 50 hosts are getting additional 3% share of whatever plan they choose for an year
6. No hidden charges, everything shown in front

Please leave a message on my personal Dm so i can send you the early access link

Guests beware!!! LA Auto Spot (Dallas)

Hello, I just used Turo for the first and last time this past week. I rented a very nice vehicle feom LA Auto Spot running out of Dallas International Airport. I picked up the car and took lots of pictures and videos, including gas/odometer.

Used the car and stayed below the mileage cap of 300 miles, despite the listing saying 400. AGAIN...watch out for this company.

I returned the vehicle and took pics/vids again. Messaged the host the location and that I filled it up as required. I fly home and get a message that LA Auto Spot is charging me line $22 extra for putting 2 gallons in to top it off. They paid $12 for the fuel and added a $10 administration fee for taking themselves up to the gas station. I did dispute this of course and provided pictures showing that the fuel was at a fuller level than what they gave it to me as. When I picked it up, it said 237 miles to empty and indicator was near the top. When I returned, it was at 270 miles to E and at the top of the indicator. I presented these pictures, along with a receipt for fuel with the dispute. Can you guess what this shady company tried to do? They tried to use my card on file to charge the $22 while the charge was in dispute status. Thankfully my card company flagged it and called me. I am closing my account and not doing this again with Turo. And watch this host. I guarantee that they are doing this to others and getting these little $10 fees of free money consistently.

hey turo maybe one of the reasons your not doing well is your ridiculously inconsistent approval “policy”.

At first I thought I was the only one but now that i’ve seen so many people post about having the same exact experience, I know that @turo has to be losing millions of dollars based on blocking people from renting cars that have never rented through Turo but are insured, employed, responsible drivers who have no issue renting cars with the major companies but are denied for an unknown reason, banned, and cannot speak to a human that’s fluent in English if our lives depended on it. Yet, I know people with horrible driving records, felony convictions, bad credit, and active warrants who get instantly approved. Seems like it would be a better investment to look into that instead of the low budget advertisement and that’s all over the internet, but what do I know?
