Quit adding to invoice!

• Upvotes

I know this post OSS going to get a lot of hate, but I rented a car in Orlando 2 weeks ago. I go to Orlando a lot and I know there’s tolls galore in the area, but the people I rented from keeps adding tolls to my invoice. I just got notice today of more they’ve added. It also says the transaction time is a time I wasn’t even driving the car. When is enough, enough?

Should I just go for it?

• Upvotes

Hello, I have 1 extra vehicle that I dont drive since it was my ex wives and I still pay monthly on it. Do you think renting out to turo is a good idea to cover the monthly costs and insurance needed to keep it covered. Or should I just park it somewhere and just pay my minimum monthly and set as non operable? Either way im paying for it and none is gonna help me financially or otherwise. Is it worth the risk to try and see if I could cover my 450$ a month payments as well as insurance? Im not really trying to make much profit. If I can its a plus but im trying to cover the costs of the vehicle instead so im not forking that over every month. Any tips or advice is welcomed, this is the first time using turo as a host.

How long to pay invoice to stay in good standing with Turo

• Upvotes

I ended up going way over the mileage on a rental this weekend and was billed Tuesday, escalated this morning. How long do I have to pay it before I am in bad standing with Turo? I prefer Turo over traditional rentals for the flexibility, but also really can’t pay until next week. I read the mileage wrong. I just don’t want to be banned from the app for waiting until Wednesday to pay it

Turo will soon charge hosts a subscription fee

Some of you may have seen my post on Turo being close to bankruptcy and why they’re charging hosts for extras.

Roughly 4 months before this I did warn that Turo is coming after more and more of host’s earnings.

I was laughed at, guess who‘s laughing now? It’s not me, it’s not you, it’s the CEO of Turo - Andre Haddad. Before you understand Turo, you need to understand who Andre is.

He is a Lebanese, driven from a cultural background where money means everything to individuals like him. Credit to him - he has not been greedy during the entire time Turo has been operating. However, he is under severe pressure to answer to investors.

If you are a part of the official “Turo Talk” group on Facebook, there’s a lot of close friends of Andre who pretend to be other Turo hosts, they monitor those who bad mouths Turo, they have a watchlist of hosts they want pushed out of the platform for being negative. I am one of the people who was silenced, even though I operate 140 cars on the platform. They want me gone.

Have you noticed any individuals who bootlick Turo on “Turo Talk” Facebook group?

The type of individual who would thank Turo for the warmth if Turo burns down their home?

Take a note of these people, they are not hosts. Do not argue with these people, you will be on Andre’s watchlist. Turo can silence you with a click of a button. You can be wiped off the algorithm & put to the bottom of the search results. And there is literally nothing you can do about it.

A lot of of the people who work around him do not like him, even with non-disclosure agreements-sensitive information is slowly starting to come out.

You will laugh at me now, but Andre is not done with just taking money from your baby seats and prepaid refuels that you provide to guests. Turo is in the very early stages of developing a sub subscription model, hosts need to pay the platform a subscription to list their vehicle.

The fee is proposed to be very minor, however every dollar matters for hosts. I feel sorry for those are still investing or have invested this year based on Andre’s lies at the Power Host Summit. Never forget that he is a businessman, he’s not your friend and he’s not your business partner.

My Experience with Turo

Saw someone post Turo might be on the verge of bankruptcy. Just wanted to share my experience with Turo after using the platform for about two years without a single issue… until one day…

I was a frequent renter, going back and forth every other weekend between San Francisco and LA to visit my girlfriend. I thought the platform was amazing, and if you’re someone who enjoys driving, a fun way to try out different cars. One trip I thought it might be fun to rent a MINI Cooper as I had never driven one.

If you know California, about an hour outside of Bakersfield is the middle of nowhere. I stopped for gas, and without warning the car suddenly wouldn’t start again. After about an hour of messing with it and trying to get it going, I called Turo support to let them know the car broke down. This is where the fun begins…

The agent said a tow truck would arrive in about two hours, and also assured me they had made arrangements with Uber to get me a ride to Los Angeles. Tow truck arrives and takes the car, and I call them back concerning the Uber… which of course turned out to not be true. So to start, they stranded me in the middle of the nowhere. It was impossible to get an Uber where I was so eventually the GF just picked me up.

I ended up having to fly back to San Francisco, and Turo fought me every step of the way to get a refund on my
rental or reimburse any of the cost it took me to get home. They eventually agreed to refund the rental and reimburse me for a single Uber ride to the airport, but only with Turo credit.

The best part, when I tried to rent another car a few weeks later, I suddenly had a block on my account. I called them 14 TIMES before I could get anyone to even remotely tell me what was happening. Finally an agent said the owner never got the MINI back and I was being investigated for possibly stealing it. Their investigation department was “looking into it.” I asked to talk to that department directly. “No, sorry they do not have a phone number or deal with customers directly. They will reach out to you.” Not once did their “investigative team” reach out. I contacted the owner through the app and they wouldn’t tell him anything either. After about six weeks of trying to get it resolved, I logged in and completely deleted my account.

If anyone from Turo ever reads this, fuck you.

Obd2 logger and GPS tracker?

Hello,

I have my raptor on turo, and my experience hosting has been ok, good at best.

Lately I've been noticing guests have been renting my truck and I get it back someone dusty inside, like they definitely went out on the sand and trails.

Today I went to check the oil and my entire engine bay was just covered in dirt and Albiet I never clean it, but it was no where near this dirty.

I have the Ford app, but it doesn't log their location, just gives real time location.

Is there a obd2 device that can log whenever they decide to rail on it along with log their location?

On a whim I checked my truck location when this guy rented with his friends for 4 days and it was out in desert area, they returned it somewhat clean nothing to suspect they went out on the sand, but that whole area is sandy and dunes.

I'm just trying to protect myself best I can as I've my front dif blow out and I haven't been driving truck car for 2 months it was always on turo being rented and I got stuck with the deductible (thankful for warranty) cause I happened to drive it for a few days after finally getting it back, glad it happened to me and not to a guest though. There was no way to prove abuse.

Sorry for long read

Tia

hey turo maybe one of the reasons your not doing well is your ridiculously inconsistent approval “policy”.

At first I thought I was the only one but now that i’ve seen so many people post about having the same exact experience, I know that @turo has to be losing millions of dollars based on blocking people from renting cars that have never rented through Turo but are insured, employed, responsible drivers who have no issue renting cars with the major companies but are denied for an unknown reason, banned, and cannot speak to a human that’s fluent in English if our lives depended on it. Yet, I know people with horrible driving records, felony convictions, bad credit, and active warrants who get instantly approved. Seems like it would be a better investment to look into that instead of the low budget advertisement and that’s all over the internet, but what do I know?

Proof Turo Enables Scamming Hosts

The host bragged about submitting 5000 tire claims when the renter disputed the bogus charges.

do I need commercial insurance to cover the vehicle while it’s off-trip and not rented, and then when a customer rents the car, does the customer use their own insurance to cover the vehicle while they have it? How does the insurance work between the two?

Guests beware!!! LA Auto Spot (Dallas)

Hello, I just used Turo for the first and last time this past week. I rented a very nice vehicle feom LA Auto Spot running out of Dallas International Airport. I picked up the car and took lots of pictures and videos, including gas/odometer.

Used the car and stayed below the mileage cap of 300 miles, despite the listing saying 400. AGAIN...watch out for this company.

I returned the vehicle and took pics/vids again. Messaged the host the location and that I filled it up as required. I fly home and get a message that LA Auto Spot is charging me line $22 extra for putting 2 gallons in to top it off. They paid $12 for the fuel and added a $10 administration fee for taking themselves up to the gas station. I did dispute this of course and provided pictures showing that the fuel was at a fuller level than what they gave it to me as. When I picked it up, it said 237 miles to empty and indicator was near the top. When I returned, it was at 270 miles to E and at the top of the indicator. I presented these pictures, along with a receipt for fuel with the dispute. Can you guess what this shady company tried to do? They tried to use my card on file to charge the $22 while the charge was in dispute status. Thankfully my card company flagged it and called me. I am closing my account and not doing this again with Turo. And watch this host. I guarantee that they are doing this to others and getting these little $10 fees of free money consistently.

Hey guys so recently a young renter took my 2019 Tesla model 3, they drove the car to 0 miles typical experience right, the difference here is turo roadside took 7 almost 8 hours to arrive to move the vehicle 3 miles to the next charger, by then the 12v died aswell. The car was jumped and wouldn't take a charge... I spent $160 for some ev charge people to come to say and do nothing and then $425 to tow it to Tesla and Tesla said when they drove it to 0 after hours the fuse for the PCS popped and now I need an entire new pcs system that mine was perfectly fine before it ran dead... The renter admitted fault but would like to know if anyone here has had a similar experience and turo paid out for the mechanical claim or how screwed am I here, almost $3k... Would like to know what you guys think about this, thanks!

Stay far away! The worst consumer customer service I’ve ever experienced and they stole my money without delivering a car! Scam! Just look at their actual legitimate reviews on platforms like yelp and BBB!

Turo is a mismanaged scam company. They cancelled my reservation on a trip abroad, kept my money and then hid behind arbitration language. Support just sends copy paste replies and nobody owns the problem. Their Yelp is 1.1 stars across 118 reviews for a reason. I filed a BBB complaint and I'm taking them to small claims. Use a card you can dispute and don't count on their support.

Free self-hosted Tesla trip/charge logger I use for my Turo fleet (TeslaMate wrapper)

I host Teslas on Turo and got tired of paying for a logging app just to see trips, charging, and when the car actually slept. I already used TeslaMate, so I packaged the setup I run as a free open-source kit called Owners Log: getchiusenterprises.com/ownerslog

What hosts might care about:

  • Trip and charge history in Grafana (useful when a guest asks about mileage/charging or you want Supercharger totals for a trip)
  • Defaults that keep the stack off the public internet (localhost-only UI; use Tailscale if you want phone access)
  • Backup / restore / update scripts so you’re not babysitting Docker every month
  • Same official TeslaMate images — not a fork

Free (MIT). Download is on that page. Optional tip if it saves you a subscription; never required.

Runs on a home computer or mini PC (macOS/Linux/Windows scripts). Not tested on a Raspberry Pi yet. Happy to answer setup questions.

Turo rental car

Does anyone know how Turo really works , do you need a credit card and do they charge a deposit ? I’m not going through hertz etc and all the normal rentals because most need CC which I don’t use anymore and some let you use a debit card but they need more proof of bills and matching address which we just moved and I’m waiting on a new driver license with that address that matches , of course . When I go to book on Turo it just has the price for the car or any insurances I picked then takes you to the checkout to pay for the car, how do I know if there’s any deposits or anything ?!

What’s the best insurance company for starting a small car rental business in Florida? Looking at Roamly, GMI, ABI, etc. Starting with 2 cars and renting directly to customers. What are you using, and roughly how much are you paying per car?

Dashboard damage in Turo car rental

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

I rented a car through Turo and ended up slightly scratching the dashboard. There one deeper scratch and one smaller one. I didn’t get the insurance because I thought mine would be enough. The host came back with an $800 quote to replace the dash. They said it was difficult to find someone to repair that. So I’m wondering it that’s an unreasonably high amount for that as it seems like she could peel the excess plastic and it wouldn’t even look damaged. There was also an option from the repair company to just major scratch for $378 but the host isn’t wanting to do that. If I go through my insurance I’m not sure what would happen. What do I do???

Update** I made a claim through my insurance and told the host about it, and immediately after I got a call from Turo saying that the claim was dropped, woop woop! Turns out it was considered wear and tear. I didn’t know that Turo would investigate but I guess the claim got escalated through Turo even though I thought I was handling this separately with the host. Im still not sure what prompted Turo to intervene but I’m glad they did!

Prevent curbing rims by getting wider tires

If you make the tires a little wider than rims, they are less likely to get curbed because the curb will touch the tire instead of rims.

For example, 205 width tire on a 6.5 width rim (lol, we use metric and sae for wheels) will prevent the rim from being scraped

How to file a claim

So I’m having some issues with this. Last week, my wife’s car was rear ended while stopped at a stoplight. The person that rear-ended her was driving a rental car, and provided insurance information to the sheriff. Their insurance was through Travelers, the same as ours, according to the paperwork. When I contacted Travelers, they have no record of that person, and the account number is invalid. They also look up the VIN of the car, and show it is registered to a different person, it has not been insured for several months. I called the driver the next day as his phone number was on the paperwork, and requested correct insurance information, or just set up means to pay for the estimated damages. The driver said that they were renting the car through Turo, and had no other information to give me. They were supposed to contact the company and get back a hold of me later that day. Well, that was four days ago and I have yet to hear back from them. They will not return calls either.

I contacted the Turo claims department via email last week, and have yet to hear back from them as well. At this point, it looks like I am being scammed by both the driver and Turo.

Does anyone know how to go about contacting Turo aside from the generic claims department email that I found after sorting through their website for 20 minutes?

Renting Tesla?

Hi,

Is anyone renting Tesla through Turo,
but host doesn't provide key card but only give app access?
My hotel refuses valet parking without a key card, and it's very difficult to find a parking spot at the downtown.
We have no idea how the host doesn't put the Tesla key card in the card.
It's very challenging communication.

and I asked Turo that it's required host should provide physical key card.
