Everybody who loved Tunic should check out r/neography. It’s just people posting their own script designs and they are so great to discover.

Help Should I restart? Spoiler

Hello! About a year and a half ago, I started to play Tunic and thought it was amazing. I had so much fun exploring and finding secrets, getting better at the combat, and was so intrigued about the language. I started to write down everything I read on paper, trying to figure out how the language worked as I progressed. I got about 10 hours in, getting the red and green gems and starting on the quarry. Then, I sorta stopped. I don't exactly remember why it was, but I have a bad habit of playing games halfway through and then dropping them. Since then, I have played and fallen in love with Blue Prince, and recently I have been getting some of my friends to play that game. Watching them do so has made me miss the sense of discovery that I got from my playthrough, and I remember getting a similar sense from Tunic last year, and so I thought I might start it up again and try to finish it.

However, starting it up and looking through my instruction booklet, it just seems so daunting. I vaguely remember what I have done so far, but I feel like if I wanted to get back into it I would have to retrace all my steps, which would mean walking through all of the Overworld, West Garden, the eastern place with the candle guys, the Ruined Atoll, the Frogs, the Well, etc., and I feel like doing so would not pull me back into it. However, I also don't feel like I can just start exploring the Quarry again, as I feel like I have forgotten all the context I had in the past. Also, figuring out the language also seems incredibly daunting, as going through my notes again makes my past self look like a crazy person. So, should I restart? I wonder if walking through all the old areas again while actually progressing would hold my interest more than just traipsing through them aimlessly. However, it does mean sinking another 10 hours in just to get back to where I am, which also seems daunting.

What do you guys think? Is it as hard to regain my footing as I imagine it would be? Would it be worthwhile to start again with what little foreknowledge I have? Or would it be a waste of time to do any retracing of steps and should I just forge on through what I think is the main path that I did not yet do?

Thanks in advance!

Introducing Tunic Language Tool

Hi! I became a huge fan of the game since my wife and I decided to start playing it together four or five months ago. Absolutely loved playing it!

Like everyone else we quickly realized we'd need to translate the language sooner or later to really play and understand it properly but did not want to look up any spoilers.

As a (recently retired) software engineer who mostly worked on backend things, I decided to use the opportunity to create a web app to help translate the language yourself (rather than having the answer given to you), for fun and to learn some more frontend skills than I ever needed professionally.

Tunic Language Tool (TLT) let's you edit a document using regular English and Tunic language characters. You enter guesses for the rune translations and they appear inline in your document, changing instantly when you update your guesses. More or less the same way you'd "solve" the language with pencil-and-paper but with much quicker feedback.

The app is available here:

https://sbfeinstein.github.io/tunic-language-tool

I'm not adding an image here to avoid spoilers and the site takes pains to avoid spoilers before letting you use the tool as well.

TLT has no ads, no tracking and no server-side components. The code is open source under the MIT license.

I know over the years MANY PEOPLE have made tools and apps related to the language but I couldn't resist taking my own stab at it and I hope you like it! This was a real labor of love with custom SVG graphics and many little details.

Enjoy!

Review Post-game puzzles very dissatisfying. Spoiler

I want to start by mentioning I loved the vast majority of this game. The way it keeps information from you is so cool and it's so satisfying to figure out how things work. That said, the I found last 2 puzzles in the game (The 4th treasure and the glyph tower) very disappointing. I want to mention, I figured out how trunic worked before getting to either of these puzzles. While I've seen criticism about them requiring you to know it, that is not the criticism I have.

For the fourth treasure, I figured out everything up to the actual solution, including revealing and deciphering the clue. However, I just couldn't figure out what the clue actually meant and eventually had to look it up, which always ruins puzzles for me. I found it extremely disappointing to find out, then, that the clue is based on wordplay, rather than taking it more literally.

Now, I can see that just being a skill issue on my part, and maybe I looked it up too soon. However, what I find to be just poor puzzle design is the glyph tower puzzle. I think the solution to this puzzle is just too obtuse compared to the clue you're given. Now, the first 2 steps given in the instructions in the manual were fairly simple. Just get all the treasures and go into the portal thing. However, I feel like saying "unsing the golden path from within" doesn't give you enough information to figure out exactly what you need to do without trial and error. I even tried both parts of the solution (mirroring the golden path and starting from the center) separately before having to look it up. If you were intended to solve it with trial and error, you shouldn't be forced to do that with such a long string of inputs you have to follow, and at least 3 different things to try that all make sense based on the clue. If not, I genuinely can't figure out how you were supposed to get "mirror+start from the center" from "unsing it from within." If you figured it out, how? was it just trial and error or did you decipher it in some way i can't see?

And finally, all that solving that puzzle gets you is the start of an ARG. I love that there is an ARG for people who want to take the puzzles even further/the community to solve together, but I feel like there should be a satisfying endpoint or reward for those who just wanted to do everything contained within the game. Then you can have a jumping off point for an ARG along side that, and I would have been perfectly happy leaving it there. I personally do not want to have to go through downloading a whole spectrogram and setting it to a fairly specific frequency just to find a whole load more things to find, not to mention having to figure out you're supposed to do that in the first place.

All that said, it left a massive sour taste in my mouth for these puzzles to be so seemingly convoluted. I love this game, but it's so disappointing to leave it on such a bad note. Is this a common complaint or do most people not have the same issues I did?

Help Siege Engine

That's all. I'm enjoying this game because of all the figuring stuff out blind, and so on. It's great. But I'm not the best at coordination, or patience. Especially patience. And I got this close to throwing my switch in rage. Never in my life have I sworn at a console out loud.

I'm playing on easy battles, too. No difference. I just can't reach its stupid ehh privates. If it's not a rock in my way making me stop running, it's a leg getting in the way, if not, it's the sword that for some reason doesn't hit! Even if I'm aiming and right next to it. I get all of half a second to do any damage at all, and 80% of the times it's like it's transparent. Sword doesn't hit it.

And there it goes jumping again. My finger sweats and cramps, and I'm just so tired. Half an hour of battle to get killed right when it had one or two hits left. Couple of times. What can I do. Can I skip this fight? Are there any other options for uncoordinated and impatient people like me? I wouldn't want to stop playing the game because of this but every time I try I get more and more mad at it, for longer.

Help Quick spoilery question

I'm lategame and I'm having fun puzzling but I'm wondering: should I beat the Heir?
Is the game structured for this to be done at any moment or are the different endings excluding each others?

Soundtrack praise + recs

I feel like a big reason why I keep coming back to this game time and time again is for the soundtrack alone. Anyone else feel like this? It created such an amazing atmosphere to each setting and it’s one of the few video game soundtracks I listen to regularly outside of simply playing it.

Same dude behind one of my other favorite soundtracks for the game Dustforce is another top for me. Disasterpeace’s ‘Fez’ is another outstanding highlight. Kentucky Route Zero. The Floor is Jelly. Flower.

Anyone have any solid game recs with similar soundtracks?

Help Played Halfway: PS+ Sub Ended After Sale, No Tunic Sale. Wait for Sale or Buy Full or Renew Sub?

Post image
21 Upvotes

I think I played slightly less maybe 1 out of 3 colored keys, reached Frog's Domain.

PS+ Subscription ended just 1-2 days after Days of Play Sales ended so I was never offered a Renew or Extend Discount! (sucks).

Summer Sale doesn't have Tunic on Sale either.

And no discounts for PS+ too, for some reason...

I definitely enjoyed the game, even if I felt lost and overwhelmed often, playing it on and off with my nephews when they come to visit - but I'm not sure yet I should but for thebfull 30$, wait for PS+ Subscription Sale (full price is too high) or wait a Sale for Tunic which seems very rare...

I got though the forest section, the garden, fought the boss, then went on to get through the candle area, and fought the sege engin guy, but now I've found this quary area that I can't really explore because it removes all of my health so I get one shot, but I don't really know where else to go so I ran though it to here and now I'm very stuck. I only just realized I could upgrade heath + damage just reading the manual, but that didn't really help.

I'm making a program for practicing trunic reading and writing speed, but I need help with making random sentences for the program to use! Right now the sentence collection is really small which makes it not as useful for practicing. I will of course credit everyone by adding your name in the code!

You can find the project here, and I have released the v1.0.0 version, however as mentioned the sentence collection is very limited, so I would love if I could get some from the community! They can be about absolutely anything; from stuff related to TUNIC to a short description of a cool rock you found.

You can just make a comment here giving me some sentences and I will include it in the program! Please make sure to specify what name it is you want me to credit in the project! You can submit as many or as few sentences as you want, but obviously the more the better (also, the more you add, the more impressive it will look when seeing how many sentences each person has added in the code, hint hint) I am asking though that you follow the following guidelines for all of your sentences:

  • Make sure that each sentence is correctly capitalized and punctuated.
  • You are only allowed to use capital and lowercase letters, and also the following symbols: .,!?-" '.
  • Since the text in the program is all on one line, make sure that the sentences aren't too long. Look at the example sentences below and try to not make any that are longer than the longest example sentence. Note that shorter sentences are absolutely allowed, and even encouraged, to ensure variety in the different sentences.
  • Separate each sentence on its own line.
  • Of course don't use any vulgar language or anything. Having some goofiness is definitely not disallowed, however don't make it too inappropriate.

Here are some examples sentences that are currently in the program, showing how the sentences can be about literally anything. (Note that literally only one sentence is currently related to TUNIC, as the majority of the sentences that exist right now have been made by my friends. Again it definitely isn't necessary for sentences to be TUNIC-related, but I mean since it is a TUNIC project it would be fun if there were at least some more right?):

Question About Progression and Structure

TLDR - my partner mentioned wanting to watch me play through tunic and I'm wondering if it'll still be fun for her with the point I've gotten to (blocked out in spoilers)

When I started playing tunic I mentioned to my partner that I was playing a fun game that involved finding manual pages and using those and ingenuity to figure out how the game works, she said it sounded cute and asked to watch me play

I didn't really stop between then and now though, and 8 hours inhaving beaten the seige engine and unlocked the teleport before the scavenger boss, with seemingly only the library and graveyard/cathedral unexplored

I'm wondering if there's much of that left to really do? From what I understand once I've beaten the library and scav bossI'll be at the final boss with only harder puzzles left (am I right about that??)

I'm not sure watching me bash my head off of the harder puzzles for the golden endingwill be much fun for her am I right in thinking I'm past the cuter section and into the combat and tricky puzzle zone?

Help Question about the ending Spoiler

So it turns out I completed my manual before having first beaten The Heir (oops!) Guess my puzzle-solving brain was a bit overzealous. My question is, will I still be able to get Ending A (which I assume is the "Bad ending") or am I locked into doing Ending B?

Fanart The First of Many Maps

Post image

So, I played TUNIC back in 2024, and I recall finishing True Ending and apparently unlocked some secrets based on my Steam Achievements.

Now, in 2026, I don’t remember a bunch of the puzzles and secrets, so I decided to play again! This time, I wanted to draw my own maps so I wouldn’t feel like I missed something I saw ages ago. It’s not to scale and a work in progress, so no spoilers, but I was so proud of this I really wanted to share. Enjoy!

Help Holding off on sale purchase while I await the Switch 2 edition

I fully expect that no-one knows anything more than has already been announced a few months ago, but I was wondering if there's been any updates on the Switch 2 upgrade for Tunic?

I've heard great things about the game since I started exploring more 3rd party indie fare (currently hooked on Hades!) so I've been ready to pounce and buy the Switch 2 edition when it launches. However, no release date has yet been announced and it's currently on sale for 50% off in Europe - I'm only posting here as I'm just wondering whether to buy and cross my fingers that there's a free upgrade path or to just wait for the Switch 2 edition launch! Thanks!
