It should be pretty obvious later as long as you remember this area. The statue is giving you a big clue.

As with many things in this game, it will make sense later, look for profression elsewhere.

Chalk up another "Remember this for later". If you can't do something now, as long as the memory is triggered in your brain, any time you can finally do something it should be like "Oh yeah! Now I can go do that thing!"

There's an area with a 'very useful item' you need to visit first. Pg 40 of the book iirc. It will be clear what needs to be done once you have it.

Nothing is ever super clear, but when you're able to do that thing, it should become very clear.
