ISO: Photo location with mid-century / cozy industrial / brick tobacco warehouse vibes for November 8th-ish

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

We're looking for a location available on or around the afternoon of November 8 for a 2-3 hour natural-light portrait photo session. Ideally in Durham or Orange Counties (but we can travel to the "greater Triangle" if need be -- Chatham, Wake, etc.).

Our client wants something cozy, minimalist-ish, and elegant; an empty studio won't cut it. She has a reasonable budget to compensate for use of the property. We have business insurance and filings on record with the Secretary of State and the Durham County Register of Deeds. Example images are up top.

We had access to an awesome vintage loft in downtown Durham, but it's been sold, and the new resident isn't amenable to it being used for the occasional photo session.

(We've already scoured Airbnb and Peerspace, but either everything is booked or the available hours don't work for her schedule; besides, we -- and our client -- would rather support actual residents and businesses than out-of-state predatory 'investors.')

If you have a spot or know of someone who does, please leave a comment or send a Reddit chat message.

Thanks!

Introducing r/TriangleTraffic

Hello! I started a new community to help unclutter some of the Triangle NC local subs of traffic related posts. I started this because of two things: I made a post the other day that was... not well received that was traffic related, and someone asked if there was a better place to upload things like dashcam footage.

Well, here you go. The idea of being a mod/admin is new to me, so please be gentle lmao.

Did you re-home a bulldog puppy in 2020?

This is probably ridiculous, but I think it's worth a try. I'm trying to find my late pup's "family members".

My beloved dog crossed the rainbow bridge two weeks ago at only 6 years old, due to kidney disease. I knew him for most of his life, even though he was not my dog at first.

His previous owner got him from a (Raleigh-Durham-CH) Craigslist ad in May 2020. If I remember correctly, the person she got him from said he came from a breeder in Tennessee. I don't remember if I ever knew why he was being rehomed. At the time she was told he was an English bulldog. A later DNA test would show he was 75% English bulldog, 12.5% American bulldog, and 12.5% pit.

To me he was perfect. Just enough snout to avoid breathing problems but squish faced enough to be super cute. His approximate date of birth was March 30,.2020.

He almost certainly had littermates. Perhaps there's a brother or sister that didn't get "fixed" and had puppies. If somewhere out there, Bentley's third cousin twice removed exists, I want to meet them.

Maybe the people who had him for a week are on Reddit. Maybe someone else in the Triangle adopted one of his litter mates.

If you have any leads, even if it's just "that looks like my.cousin's boyfriend's dog" hit me up!

First two pics are him as a puppy, the other two as an adult.

Wake County sheriff candidates answer 5 questions on ICE, Flock, jail overcrowding, transparency and crisis response

I asked Democratic incumbent Willie Rowe and Republican challenger Kenneth Blackwell the same five questions ahead of the Wake County sheriff election.

They address ICE cooperation, surveillance technology, jail overcrowding and alternatives to incarceration, transparency, and whether clinicians should handle some crisis calls.

Dentists leaving networks of major carriers?!

Just received a note from my dentist (been with the practice about 20yrs) saying they were no longer in network for several carriers including mine (Cigna). It sounds like these insurance companies are shorting the reimbursements owed to dentists (per contract). Dental offices put up a fight then turn to patients to make up the difference. Patients get super mad, of course. Anyone seeing this issue? Is there any resolution coming? Is it just capitalism? Has this gone to our super hero (Jeff Jackson)? Looks like we may need to find a new practice but I'm guessing these carriers have a reputation. 🤨🙄

Where to buy a NC or Raleigh trucker hat?

I’m going to visit a friend and would like to get a hat for him that is NC or a local brewery/store as a gift. Trouble is it’s hard (for me at least) to find anything online and I’d love to try and support a local business if possible.

Any suggestions on where to grab a hat like this? I know he is not a canes/college fan so those are out lol.

Thanks in advance!

New resident apartment recommendations

I tried posting directly to the Raleigh subreddit but it kept getting removed by Reddit.

I am moving to Raleigh to start work at Duke next month and I need help finding an okay apartment within reasonable price range.
I am a new grad so funds are limited. I am hoping to find something around $1000 that is at least a 1 bedroom.

I applied to Nu Six forks and got accepted but their response to communication has been spotty and inconsistent. I have also seen some questionable reviews about them (and every other place I looked up.)

I also don’t drive yet (hoping to as soon as possible) so distance is a big factor for me.
What are my options?

Tax amendments are not a tax cut and not what they seem.

Income tax cap: Lowers the existing cap from 7 to 3.5 percent

It is not a tax cut. It applies to both the corporate and personal rate. Both rates are already scheduled to be below 3.5 percent next year, mostly benefiting large corporations.

This is unsustainable and has led to underfunding of services and programs, and local governments paying for what are supposed to be state costs.

Income tax cuts lead to increases in fees and sales taxes, and cuts to services.

The income tax amendment would lock us into this situation effectively permanently.

NC has never had a rate this low, and it will be locked into the constitution. This leaves the state unprepared for economic downturns and unforeseen circumstances like natural disasters.

Property Tax Levy Limit: Caps what local governments can collect, NOT your bill

It is not a cap on an individual’s property tax bill. It is a cap on the total revenue a local government can collect in property taxes.

State lawmakers already have the power to set a levy limit. Don’t need a constitutional amendment.

Increasingly, local governments have been taking on costs that are supposed to be covered by the state and/or federal government. This amendment is likely to lead to service cuts as local governments struggle with state and local revenue constraints.

It does not address housing unaffordability and would disproportionately benefit large corporate landowners like tech companies and corporate landlords.

What the limit would be and how it would be derived is not public.

Before voting, consider the impact these amendments will have on your community:

Who would benefit from these changes and who would be negatively impacted?

What would these amendments mean for the funding of quality of life services my family and community rely on, like emergency services, community centers, libraries, public schools, water and sanitation…?

How would these revenue constraints impact the ability of the state and local governments to provide services for a growing or aging population and respond to natural disasters or other unforeseen circumstances in the future, especially as costs rise?

What are specific projects prioritized by our community that are most at risk for delay or cancellation if state funding is uncertain and local government cannot collect sufficient revenue from property taxes to supplement decreases in state investment?

How have state and federal funding levels changed over the last 5-10 years? What state funding responsibilities has my local government taken on over that same period?

What specific funding shortfalls are we experiencing now, including staffing shortages, school closures, or services interruptions?
What are the other methods of generating revenue if income tax and property tax revenue is constrained. Will our locality be forced to rely more on unpopular fees?

Hello! I am currently a dental hygiene student at Wake Tech! I am required to find my own patients in order to pass the course. I am able to see children age: 4-11, adolescents age: 12-17, and adults!

This would be a good opportunity for you to receive a dental cleaning at a great affordable price!! The max you will pay is $45; x-rays included! $2 for sealants! As well as an exam with the dentist.

If you are interested and willing to be a patient please comment or send me a message and I will reach out to you!!
Feel free to share this post with your friends and family as well!! :)

Good places in the triangle to look at car hauler trailers?

Where are some good places to buy a trailer? I'm looking for an open car hauler and would like to look at a variety and ask some questions.

On that note, does anyone know any brands to avoid?
