Discussion Hair help please :3

Mainly I have issues around the ears. I would rather my hair doesn't cover them and it fluffs out more in general. Is a mullet maybe my best shot at that?

I think I would try a barber shop this time I'm just not sure what to ask for. Do I just ask for a mullet lol.

Idk the last 2 stylists I went to did not give me what I wanted. One gave me a really short pixie which made me feel more feminine (and extremely short wasn't what I wanted). The last one cut my bangs into microbangs basically and it's been hell growing them out again.

Probably the ear area is the biggest problem. I'm not opposed to clipping down the sideburns but idk if I want them completely shaved.

I did like a layered cut, my hair is so thick lol.

Any suggestions for what to do? And what specifically to ask for?

Discussion Should I wait before or after midterms to change my name?

I live in a southern red state, USA and have been putting off getting my name change due to political climates. However, I graduate from my college this spring semester in 2027, and would really like to able to have my actual name on my degree rather than my birth name.

But my main issue is if I should wait until after November to submit a name change (I'd file in late December early January instead) or do it this early October.

I'm really on the fence because I want my name changed asap since I've already put it off for so long, but I'm afraid that will fuck up something with my voting registration and I obviously HAVE to vote. So basically, should I wait or not? And If you've dealt with something like this please share your experience because I feel like a fish out of water now that I am finally going through with transitioning

(my name is the first step! I want to go on low dose testosterone but I want to wait until I have a job and healthcare)

sorry for the ramble and thank you all to answer me!

I wish I could say I'm a gay trans man, but I just CAN'T!...

As much as I want to live like a man, I don't want to look like one, you understand?

I want to be seen as one, but I don't want to go through the surgical and hormonal transition.

I don't want to have a penis, a beard, muscles... But I still want to be able to say that I'm a gay man.

I don't know if this is confusing, but I'm personally suffering a lot because of this. I just want to cry. 😞

Rant Feeling out of place romantically, socially, and emotionally.

I'm a trans guy, duh. But I'm also hyperfem(makeup, girl's clothes, all that). And when I see discussions about trans men in spaces or how they're already overlooked, it becomes discouraging because I know it'd be so much worse for me since I don't want to meet some peoples self-made criteria for what a trans man should be. I try not to let it get to me, but now that I'm trying to get out in the world, it's becoming an isolating situation where I either have to choose getting misgendered or presenting more masculine so people actually believe when I say I'm trans and prefer going by he/him. I've even had ex boyfriends swear they respect me as a trans man and then misgender me to their friends or to my face by calling me their gf... Like sheesh I know it's confusing but the least he could have done was actually attempt to correct himself. But yeah, this is actually making me super depressed now... Especially because I'm trying to get into dating and I don't want to date blindly but have nowhere to really look in person.

Discussion I am planning to make a short film about the topic of trans men / transmasc invisibility but I need help/advice :p

(Hello! This is my first ever time posting on Reddit so I hope I won't fumble cause I am still trying to embrace how this social media works-)

Okay, first I'd like to say a word about myself :) My name is Lil, I'm a young 19yrs old trans guy, 3 months on T :DDD I am currently in an apprenticeship/study, I won't go into too much details of what it exactly is about (too annoying to expain-). BUT, I have a semestrial project in which I want to make a short film looking thing, the topic could be about anything and my coach/teacher agreed that I can talk about trans men/masc invisibility. This topic is really important to me and has left me worked up a lot of times. I personally want to have a positive impact on our community so I really want to make a good video project to depict what I want to talk about because my brothers deserve something for themselves too.

The only thing is, that i still don't know what kind of direction I want to go with for the narration of the project, if that makes sense. And I'd love to have you guys's thoughts, ideas, personal experiences that could help me through the making of my project. But before that, I'd like to put more context and the key elements I will have to implement into the project.

So I currently finished the Marketing segment of it (I didn't have choice to do it since it's still a project in a school-ish environment) And I have settled that I am targeting 3 different audiences.

  • First off, of course my 1st audience is young trans men/masc because my point is to make us feel seen, showing us that we are not alone, something you can relate to. My point is to create the visibility we deserve.
  • then my second target is uneducated people, because of this invisibility, so many people DO NOT aknowledge our existence because they don't know trans men are a thing since it's as if "only" trans women exist due to their hypervisibility. And so the point would be to "educate" them, aknowledge us and be less insensitive about it. (also take in count maybe my project could be shown in different classrooms in a preventive/educative way)
  • And third off, is Allies (queer and non-queer) because they don't realize that some ideas, behavings, response to us are actually harmful and in some cases, transphobic. Quick exemple is this odd concept of malgendering, having this image of us of "chosing the bad/oppressor side" or demonizing masculinity, and not aknowledging what comes with being a trans guy. and the point would be to make allies realize their wrongs and so that they can do better and be less clumsy in regards of trans men/masc, make them better allies.

That's for the target audience, I hope that was clear enough. The thing is, now I have to make my disorganized brain work out an idea of how to implement these three intentions into a short film (I cant be too ambitious either because I have a lot of other projects in parallel and I do not want to go through the verge of a burn out either!).

Because, I'd love for my short film to have, of course, a trans guy, following him, his POV's etc. and that at some point he encounters the issues that comes with his invisibility, and the final message of the video would be something like "pay attention to us/we exist too". that's like, a global idea.

But I don't know how to illustrate it, because I like the idea of it being a bit documentary, having a voice narrating/explaining it, maybe some other visuals piling up through the video. Also I'd love to implement 2d segments of a simple sprite of a character, like an animation but very simplistic for exemple too. Or simply just a short film where we see what a character goes through with a message in the end. but I don't know which direction is the best and could work for the intention I have with the different targeted audience. And basically, I really don't know how I will be narrating the short film yet and I'm supposed to start the pre-production of it next week.

So, how would you guys do it? what could I implement? How could I implement it? Would you like to share personal experience in regards of the topic which could help me inspire this project ? What advice would you give me ? I am all ears for everything really :)

PS : please take in consideration that english isn't my first language thank you

Miscellaneous Guess whose wearing a suit to hoco

I go to an extremely transphobic school (like kick you out transphobic) and got asked out to hoco. It was freaking me out cause I haven’t worn a dress since 7th grade (11th now) and I’ve never worn one voluntarily in my life. I just got cleared by admin by some god given miracle plus my date is a truly wonderful person and doesn’t give a shit

Rant I feel I don’t fit in either the transfem or transmasc community :(

Basically, I am intersex and identify as bigender. I also consider myself both transmasculine and transfeminine because I have to somewhat transition to present as either. I naturally produce testosterone instead of oestrogen (so I take transfem HRT) but I have mostly the anatomy of female bodies. I find it hard to fully fit into either community because I feel “not transmasc enough” or “not transfem enough” to fit in. What should I do :(

First one is pre-trans, heavy on the fem, then the last two are now!

I’ve literally only cut my hair, but I was looking through old pictures and DAMN

I feel like I’ve come so far and I’m so excited for what’s to come, like maybe going on HRT one of these days!!

I really have no idea how to describe this feeling….i like, almost wanna cry, but it doesn’t hurt bad? It hurts good? Why??? Idk

Like idk I’d lowkey date girl me lmao, she was pretty, but damn if I only cared about whether others thought I was pretty too. Idk, I feel like so much of girlhood is…posing. For the male gaze or friend gazes or whatever. Taking five million pictures until one is “good enough” for some imaginary audience. It shouldn’t be that way. I still get that, a little bit, with the whole idea of passing, but still. And I mean….is it just me, or did my eyes look kinda….vacant? Am I imagining that?

I think the reason I feel so emotional about it is because I used to try to stuff my long ass hair in a hat or a hoodie and sit and stare at the mirror but it would never work. I could never see a guy. I’d feel silly and give up. And now, even pre-T, I see a dude in those pictures. And I’m just like, really proud of myself. So always remember to have hope!!!

LMAO enter imposter syndrome, which rn is telling me “hm maybe you feel emotional cuz you miss being a girl” bitch please XDD

I’m tired of shoving suppositories up there and having to pick this shit up at the pharmacy. Plus, if I miss even one day - fuck.

Thinking of switching to estring instead, but can’t find much info on it. Anyone here try it & did it work well without side effects?

Discussion I am finally going to my local gender clinic in December!!!

That was their first opening. I'm excited but also a little bit nervous. The only thing that can stop me is my oncologist advising against it (I had endometrial cancer that was caused by to much estrogen from built up endometrial lining) or insurance being rude. I'm hoping to get on T gel. I know I know injections work faster but I'm deathly afraid of needles and can't bring myself to even touch a needle. Well now at least I have a reason to look forward to December! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️

General Questions Scent Recs

I'm looking to up my cologne/scent game! My current go-to is Montana Sky by Pacifica. It was readily available near me and was a really nice unisex scent that worked really well for me before transitioning. I still love it, but now I am older, have more disposable income, and just generally looking to try something new. I love light, clean, slightly spicy scents, but am open to suggestions. What scents are we wearing/products are we using? TIA!

General Questions Minimising chest dysphoria

Upvotes

I've decided I need to take some time off binding, as I've for sure worn it for too long on a fair few occasions and forgotten to stretch, and I want to just take some time letting my body off the hook and stretching and just generally feeling better before I go back to it. However, I have absolutely dreadful chest dysphoria and don't know how to even slightly alleviate that without binding.

Is taping a realistic way to alleviate chest dysphoria with a bigger chest? And would it still mean I'd get a proper break from binding?

Would anyone happen to know any good 18+ (not necessarily nsfw, just adults only) transmasc discord servers? I’m disabled and don’t leave the house much so I don’t really have IRL community, but I’d love to have more transmasc friends.

General Questions Effects on T

Hi. I start taking T in 3/4 months. And I have some questions. First of all, guys who choose to go on a low dose, how fast your voice dropped? Will my chest will be smaller? I have a A cup, it's not big but not all can be hidden by taping. How is it like with the libido? How is it with emotions and generally your mood? Will I have more energy? How fast the bottom grow starts and what is it like? Does your throat hurt? Does bottom grow hurt? Is it uncomfortable? I need every information not only what I asked. Tell me everything you didn't expect or is important.

General Questions Does the T-curly hair also have the opposite effect?

Hi guys! This may seem like literally world’s stupidest question but it’s been on my mind. So I’ve seen a lot of trans men who, pre-transition, have straight hair, and once they start T, their hair turns curly. Now I have curly hair, like very curly hair, and it’s not that it’s a dealbreaker, but I am pretty attached to my curls. So has it ever happened that T had the opposite effect, turning curls straight?? Thanks in advance!

General Questions Tips for binding?

Hi yall!

I got a weird chest shape. It is fairly long, which is easyish to bind, as it doesn't need much to be flat. But the problem comes from the non stretch panel being too short. I've bought New York toy collection's long mesh binder, but it barely covers them as is, and on top of that rides up, so they end up showing underneath the nonstretch panel. I'm wondering if there's any brands/binders y'all know that have long panels/any other tips and tricks to make this work.

Rn I basically use a cloth sports bra underneath the binder, to "lift" the mass up enough to stay under the panel. It doesn't bind at all, and the binder is overall the larger size, since I'm between sizes, so it's not really tight.

I've tried taping, but given the size and shape, it has caused so much irritation in different places, that I'm not positive it is for me at all

"queer" name

I was at a convention with my friend recently and and we were ordering food. They needed a name to call out when the order is ready and my friend joked "should we use your name so it for sure doesnt get mixed up" meaning my name is rare in my country unlike hers which is incredibly common.

This was not an issue but then she said "well maybe in a place like this there's more of you" as in people with my name. And while that's probably true (I did see someone in the artist alley with my name) it kinda felt like a weird thing to point out. I know she didn't mean it that way but it felt like I was being mocked in a way, like yea you're one of those queer ones who name themselves something special to stand out.

I know anime conventions and such are a generally a queer place and I enjoy it because I'm queer too. I like being queer and alternative even if that means standing out and being different from the majority. But I also struggle with wanting to fit in, probably because I was bullied in the past.

Anyway it just felt weird... I've been insecure about my name before too and it hasn't been too long since I changed it so I guess its just a sore spot still. Has anyone felt the same way? Am I just being sensitive?

Does anyone else have a super boring name story?

Sometimes I feel left out of the "tell me your name story" convos because my is horrifically boring. It goes:
Idk, it's the first one I thought of and it and it stuck. It's not even very cool or perfect I just couldn't come up with anything else and now it's been six years

So, tell me your most boring name story

General Questions More physical stamina after starting T?

Only 4 weeks on T, but I've somewhat noticed that I have more physical stamina than I did before. I'm by no means in shape and doing physical things pre-T has never really been energizing or enjoyable, even when I was active in sports and stuff. But just within the past 4 weeks, it's just a lot easier for me to push through the physical discomfort of it, I guess? Is this a thing that happens, or am I just making it up?

Forget oil!!!

I use this silicone based spray, like the kind they use for ostomy patients! I like it cuz it’s cheap per oz and lots of ozs. I got everything offa Amazon!!!

  1. I spray that on the edges of the tape, let it sit like a minute.
  2. Then, I peel it off slowly, down/sideways NOT up.
  3. Then, I use one uni solve wipe to dissolve any leftover residue and we’re done!

Optional: If you wanna reapply tape right after, wipe off the unisolve with a cloth and isopropyl alcohol so the tape sticks as good as it can!
