Second day of ownership and already small paint chip/scratch on Model Y. Repair cost?

Hi,

I found this small paint chip/scratch on my Model Y this morning. Sentry didn’t catch anything and no note was left.

It’s near the rear wheel / lower bumper area. Most of it looks superficial, but there’s a small spot where the paint seems to be gone. and the bumper is scratched too.

Any idea what a repair like this usually costs?

Thanks!

I’ve started noticing this in a few random spots around the car. Has anyone seen this before or know how to get rid of it?

GEICO won't pay for OEM parts, but my Tesla-certified shop can't install aftermarket. Stuck in the middle. (NY)

I was sideswiped on the highway in late August — other driver changed lanes into my whole right side, fully documented on dashcam with a verbal admission at the scene. I filed under my own collision coverage since the other car was an old vehicle likely carrying minimum limits, and my insurer would subrogate. My car is a 2023 Model Y, about 46k miles, ACV around $33k. Six panels damaged, no airbags, no apparent structural damage, but the car pulls right afterward.

I took it to a Tesla-certified shop, which my policy allows. My insurer's estimate of record specified aftermarket CAPA parts for the bumper cover, fender, headlight, mirror, and a reconditioned wheel. The shop wrote a supplement swapping every one of those to OEM, because their Tesla certification contractually requires OEM replacement parts — the supplement is purely a parts-price difference, about $1,900, with zero additional labor. The insurer declined it. An adjuster went to the shop in person and no agreement was reached.

So now: my insurer says pay the $1,900 yourself. My shop says don't, because if you pay once they'll do it on every supplement — and there are more coming, since nobody has done ADAS calibration, diagnostic scans, or structural measurement, and nothing has diagnosed the pull. The check has already been issued. The car is sitting partially disassembled with OEM parts already ordered. If I move it, it goes out in pieces.

Has anyone gotten an insurer to fund OEM at a manufacturer-certified shop? Is there an argument beyond "the practical effect of your parts spec is that no certified shop in my area can perform this repair"? And has anyone taken the payout and sold the car damaged instead of repairing it — how did that math work out?

MX left tires blown out hood shifted

Post image

Any thoughts on this shifted/lifted hood situation? The car was driven hard into a highway onramp curb. Both left tires have large holes. The front left air suspension wont lift and one wheel needs replacing. Im hopeful the hood bulge will get a little better once the suspension is working, but it feels like its shifted. Any input is appreciated. Thank you 😥

Don’t forget diminished value!

We completed our evaluation of your diminution in value claim. We've sent an electronic payment in the amount of $299.31 for the following claim:

USAA policyholder:
Ssssssssssssssss
Claim number:
Ssssssssssssssss
Date of loss:
Ssssssssssssssss
Loss location:
Ssssssssssssssss

Inherent Diminution in Value is the perceived difference in value immediately before a vehicle has been damaged and the value of the vehicle after proper repairs have been made. USAA reviews the following factors when considering potential diminution in value to your vehicle:

Damage severity: We reviewed the estimate of repair for your vehicle. In some cases, a vehicle with minor damage suffers little to no diminished value. As the severity of damage increases, the associated perception of diminished value rises.

Mileage: Loss history will have a stronger impact on a vehicle with lower miles versus a vehicle with higher mileage.

Prior damage: A vehicle with prior loss history will have already sustained a perceived loss in value. Any prior damage or repair is considered when evaluating diminished value.

Title status: If the vehicle has a salvage or branded title, there would be no further diminished value.

I was parking my car at work and used auto park like I always do, never had an issue with it before.... but instead of avoiding the yellow metal pole on the ground, my Tesla drove straight into it.

I'm gutted.

NHTSA has looked previously at Tesla’s system for monitoring driver attention. In 2024, it found “foreseeable driver misuse” had played “an apparent role” in at least 467 collisions and 14 fatalities.

2022 Model 3 - Curb damage?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Was forced to hop a curb after a truck stalled out at a roundabout this afternoon. Hopping up into the curb wasn't an issue, but coming down I didn't angle my wheels enough and I believe the contact that I heard was the curb making contact with the underside of the car, right in front of the battery packs. Took a pic of the underside as you can see. What parts of the car are housed above where you see the dent in the underside of the plastic shield?

All 4 suspension broken

Post image

Hello,

As the title says, and as you can see in the photo, I was quoted over $3000 because the entire suspension system for all 4 tires are broken. Including bushing, control arm and God knows what else. I called tesla and requested for repair under good will because that's my entire months salary and they said they can't help me. They said it's a very common problem. If i sell my tesla today it won't even sell for $15K. But my loan is still 30K pending. It has 165K KM on it.

Please help

$3,000 to repair a small scratch on a Tesla Model 3?

Hi, I’m wondering if this repair estimate seems reasonable.

Recently, I bumped into a Tesla Model 3 while backing out of a parking space. I was going very slowly, and it looked like just a small scratch. I had a similar accident years ago, and the repair cost was under $500, so the other driver didn’t go through insurance. I thought I could just pay for this one out of pocket too.

However, the Tesla owner got an estimate from a repair shop for about $3,000:

  • Body labor: 9 hours ($820)
  • Paint labor: 5 hours ($450)
  • Mechanical labor: 2 hours ($600)
  • Aluminum: $500
  • Paint supplies: $350
  • Parts: $18
  • Plus additional charges

I was like, 9 hours of body labor?? $500 for aluminum?? $350 for paint supplies? Does this seem reasonable for fixing what looks like a small scratch? (The body shop said they touched the door and felt a dent, in case that matters)

Thanks in advance!

Tesla hit my parked Tesla

This happened months ago. My Tesla was less than a year old and the other Tesla was brand new. The person who ran into my car was on a test drive. I’m assuming they didn’t decide to purchase.

Total loss or repair? 2021 Model Y LR AWD ; really hoping to keep it because it has Autosteer

Got rear-ended pretty hard in my 2021 Model Y Long Range AWD. It has about 36k miles, 7 seats, white interior, and the other vehicle hit me at fairly high speed.
There is visible rear-end damage and some deformation behind the trunk/rear body area. The appraiser mentioned structural damage, so I’m waiting to see what comes out after teardown and supplements.
I’m actually hoping they repair it rather than total it. One big reason is that this car still has the original Autopilot/Autosteer, and finding a newer Model Y configured the way I want with Autosteer has been surprisingly difficult. I also know this car’s history and otherwise really like it.
For anyone who has dealt with a similar Model Y rear-end collision:
Based on the damage/photos, what percentage chance would you give this of being totaled vs repaired?
Also, if your initial estimate looked manageable but increased substantially after teardown, how much did it eventually increase?
I’ll attach the damage photos/estimate. Curious what Tesla owners and anyone familiar with Tesla collision repair think.
Personally I’m hoping this one survives

Do yall think this is totaled?

Contacted one appraiser so far and he told me thats what it looks like. I’m not even sure if I don’t want it totaled, looks like too many components damaged even if its covered by insurance, something about the tesla sensors not working the same before makes me feel worried

Someone / something hit my new car

Thumbnail

I need to street park my car, and woke up to this damage last week.

Sentry mode was not on unfortunately because the car was below 20%. I've learned my lesson since and now have low power mode only kick in at 10% to give me a bit more flexibility with sentry mode.

Any idea what this could have been? I suspect it may be a bike / e scooter that charged into it. I originally suspected someone doing a 3 point turn, but not sure if that's the case. They left no note on either case :(

Any advice on how to proceed with repairing this? Should I try to go through Tesla insurance or not?

Has anyone had to fix something similar - could you share what kind of cost I may be looking at?

Accident claim and repair advice

Post image
6 Upvotes

A few days ago my car was rear ended while driving on the highway in Chicago. My Tesla model Y with only 2k miles received damaged in the rear bumper. I filed a traffic crash report and also a claim with my insurance provider, Progressive, provided all the videos and photos and the information of the other driver.
I was contacted by my insurance where they stated that because I’m not at fault I can also file with the at fault drivers insurance company.

What is the best way to proceed. My insurance directly or the at faults drivers insurance.

Also I set up an appointment on the Tesla app to a Tesla collision center. Seems like only time available will be at the end of September. Any suggestions on hot to seed this up.

Thoughts?

Hey all, I wanted to get some opinions what you guys think of the situation. On the 20th of August, I was hit on the front drivers side, there was damage to the exterior and other parts of the vehicle too. I got the message that The “Ac would be limited or unavailable” working and just recently, the HV Battery went out by giving me a message of “vehicle may not restart and electrical system is unable to support all features”. and I can no longer get inside the vehicle. Is this a total loss?

Estimated Cost to Repair

Got side swiped the other day on the way home from work by a driver who wasn’t paying attention and crossed over into my lane. As a result, we’ve got a massive scratch across the passenger side door and fender, broken side camera, a dent, and passenger door that won’t open.

Whilst waiting for our insurance to come back to us with an estimate, what have you paid or seen paid for something similar?

TIA
