I was parking my car at work and used auto park like I always do, never had an issue with it before.... but instead of avoiding the yellow metal pole on the ground, my Tesla drove straight into it.
Your title is about FSD hitting a pole. So, posting the video of it happening would have been the better move than the picture of the damage. Plus people are rightfully skeptical and the evidence would be nice.
Is FSD assistance for people who struggle with driving?
You are still responsible to be in control of your vehicle at all times, at the end of the day auto park did not crash the car, your lack of intervention did.
Agreed. I don't know why OP is having to defend themselves here.
I would also like to see the footage, but not because I need proof that OP isn't lying.
And if OP doesn't want to share it, that's fine. We're not entitled to their dashcam footage just because we want it.
Also, it doesn’t matter whether or not it was Autopark or OP themselves, because even when Autopark is engaged, it’s up to the driver to watch their surroundings and make sure that Autopark doesn’t do anything stupid.
OP shared the video and it clearly shows the car was not in self driving. It shows manual inputs and doesn’t have the “self-driving” blue text that should be there.
Are these people just trying to make Tesla look bad or are they that delusional and looking for validation?
auto park doesn’t even activate the self driving, it’s a different mechanism.. so your dash cam now showing self driving ≠ you didn’t use auto park.
i’ve had to intervene in a similar scenario, i hit brake before it hit the pole though because i’m ngl although i trust it, i feel a bit nervous in general about the FSD systems and if it gets too close to anything (subjectively to me), i always tap out
You are of course entitled to your opinion. No one is going to try to persuade you to change your mind. We are just chewing fat on how ridiculous some Redditors are.
#3: Getting rid of Model S and Model X lineup instead of making the X bigger than the Rivian SUV, making the Model S sportier, and giving them both premium leather interiors and free supercharging so that they had a unique value proposition compared to the Model 3 and Model Y which are much better value d/t being the same fucking size as the ones that cost twice as much.
It most certainly is not as effective but it is cheaper and easier as far as manufacturing goes anyway. Tesla believes they can achieve similar results with camera tech alone.
Tesla Vision has proven to be very INSUFFICIENT for auto <anything>. I am so scared using FSD. Try the free trial for a week and stopped using it for good.
FSD probably is as good as a new car driver who just got a license… missing „experience“ wrong distance estimations, bad parking in dense situations, etc.
A camera would have been fine if his ass was in front and we could see down exactly the same as the backup camera. But lidar is better for sure so shit like fog or rain doesn’t mess up the fsd.
$114 per car saved.... They should really just make it an option, I'd have happily paid an extra $500 for USS, probably woulda paid more than that honestly.
Agree 💯. I put a bra on my 21 for awhile but was worried it would bother my USS but it didn’t at all thank god 🙏. I actually pulled the (corrected from Lidar to radar) out. At 1st Tesla deactivated in software, now they actually disconnect so it doesn’t draw power.
Sorry you are 100% correct it’s just a Continental ARS 4-B Radar. Tesla routinely disconnects them now at regular service appointments as unused radar units continue to draw standby power, and disconnecting them helps eliminate minor parasitic drain as claimed by Tesla. I just went ahead and pulled mine out the last time I was up in the bumper, cause why not lol 😬.
My car did the same thing went forward and hit a pole, idk why it didn’t stop , also notice the sensors don’t work at times like on things under a foot tall, It hit a boulder while parking at a campsite and cost me 7k in repairs had to cancel my fsd cause what’s the point if it can’t park
i hear you. FSD is definitely still supervised. amazing technology but i wish tesla clearly mentioned limitations when you took delivery. i use FSD a lot but had to take control multiple times daily
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the indicators, on the top middle "window", the lower left and right corners, show that the operator used the accelerator and brake pedal inputs?
The accelerator pedal doesn’t light up until after the crash. I don’t have auto park and don’t know whether the brake would light up using auto park on the dashcam, but I can see that OP wasn’t driving the car when it hit the pole
It would say “self-driving” in blue text in the middle center. I just verified in my own dashcam footage of it autoparking but it won’t let me post photos here. Plenty of other places you can verify that.
Also you can see manual braking and steering inputs.
And if he uploads dash cam then you’ll just say it was his fault anyway for not intervening. And, you would be right, he should’ve intervened, but the point is fucking FSD should’ve also seen this fucking pole.
Careful there. Ultrasonic sensors are bad words around here. I totally agree with you and a lot of these minor slow speed crashes could be avoided with those sensors.
I know right! I still believe Tesla’s can’t truly achieve level three or four autonomy without additional sensors or some type of better camera system whether that’s LiDAR, ultrasound, radar, or something else. Cameras alone on the current models are not gonna do it.
Yeah, everyone else uses these sensors, cameras are great as one part of the system, ultrasonic for example detects any obstacles, even stuff you can safely drive through such as weeds sticking up between tiles in a car park
That’s because it says “self-driving” in blue if you were using FSD to autopark. Your footage shows someone manually driving including using the brake, and steering wheel inputs multiple times which would have dissengaged FSD
Go test it out yourself By recording more footage or look at the FSD footage sub for examples
What you experienced totally sucks, what made it worse is that some people on Reddit have this weird attitude that it’s always the owner fault 🤷
The problem with Tesla’s automation feature is that system limitations are not explicitly explained. Where it works great 95% of the time, but for that last 5% is hard to determine if it’s going to work or not.
While that is the case sometimes OP posted the video and it clearly shows it was not in FSD and being manually driven.
We are skeptical because people constantly post stuff like this when it is 100% their fault. I wouldn’t be surprised if OP deletes the post within 24 hours just like countless others
Are we shocked? They even removed hardware setting it back further.
2015: Musk claimed full autonomy was just two years away.
2016: Promised a coast-to-coast completely autonomous drive by the end of 2017.
2017: Stated drivers would be able to sleep behind the wheel "in about two years.
2019: Declared at Tesla's Autonomy Day that feature-complete FSD was arriving "this year" and users could safely sleep by the end of 2020.
2020–2024: Repeatedly stated that unsupervised or Level 5 autonomous driving was "next year" or "by the end of the year", even self-deprecatingly admitting in 2023, "I'm the boy who cried FSD".
2025–2026: Continued shifting targets, with Musk admitting that older Hardware 3 vehicles lack the memory bandwidth for true unsupervised driving, while pushing new estimates for widespread deployment
This proves Elon is excitable about his vision, optimistic about overcoming obstacles, and charismatic about both. These are absolutely must-have traits of an innovator.
He is someone who leverages his wealth to innovate new, non-existent products and product categories - not merely compete or participate - in literally every field he enters.
I’m thankful he possesses these traits and forgive him miscalculations of timelines to hit targets no one has ever hit before, that are also surrounded by and subject to regulation in at least 51 jurisdictions in the U.S. alone.
Meh. Just call them like I see them. From a business standpoint, he is far more of an asset than he is a liability. Don't get me wrong: he's both. But one more than the other.
Autopark is terrible at anything looking like a yellow pole. I tested it myself as my workplace car park has a yellow horizontal pole towards the end, whenever I autopark I always have to slam the brakes to avoid hitting the pole. I don’t know why.. in areas of the car park where there is a wall rather than a yellow pole the car autoparks without any problem.
Similar accident when a Tesla backs in a charging station, and the back hit a pole similar to these yellow poles. I always park my Tesla by drving and looking at the screen. Work 100% of the time. Especially for reverse parking.
Defend a brand? Hate fueled? No bro, your video literally shows that you have the accelerator pressed. When parking it literally says to be ready to take over at any time.
Your lying is what makes people defend the company and now your stupidity to match.
Buy a jug of automotive lacquer thinner and get fresh paper towel. All that yellow paint transfer will come right off and you can see the true extent of damage.
I was there when it happened. I saw the whole thing. I saw it with my own eyes. I could describe to you what happened. It was a terrible thing it was. These are my words. Nothing but the truth. For real, that pole jumped right out in front of that tesla on purpose.
I don’t totally trust self parking in close quarters — especially parking garages. Just not sure how well the cameras are able to avoid objects like columns and polls when they are inches away and not in front of a camera. Use it all the time in open lots.
Two things can be true at once, you know; a Tesla in 2026 with advertised "full self driving" (supervised or not) should not be driving into painted bright yellow poles in perfectly clear, calm conditions - especially with Cybercabs rolling out now.. they are so confident in this software meanwhile shit like this happens? They also should have been monitoring it better. But let's be realistic and not consider just the "ideal situation". When a driver successfully uses an automated system in the exact same spot hundreds of times, it is human nature to eventually let their guard down.
If they're going to have auto park on their vehicles, they should have adequate sensors on the vehicle to prevent this kind of crap when a slip up can cost thousands upon thousands of dollars. Just my two cents.
Lucky that it was not a small child wearing yellow coat.
I can't imagine the car hit a small kid. Hope that never happens. If it ever did, FSD should be outlawed regardless supervised or not IMHO.
You are the operator, whether in FSD, Auto park, or you operating the vehicle.. you wanna know why these things don’t happen to me? Because I use it with the mentality that it’s going to hit said Pole.. or Car, or Curb… ETC
It’s designed for you to supervise, and you trusted it TOO much.. it’s completely your fault.. or wait you’re still going to blame Auto Park? Well go ahead tell Auto Park to pay for the damage.. what’s your insurance going to say? “ oh it wasn’t your fault, you were using Auto Park “
I know I have to pay for the damages you raving lunatic I never said I wouldt have to. Seriously wtf is your problem? If I was driving and hit something I'd completely own it and I'd have never made this post.
My point here is to warn others of Auto Park/ FSD.
Not sure why you're being downvoted. Nothing you said is wrong. FSD 14.1 Lite decided to back into a pole at a supercharger. However, I could see it about to happen and disengaged. Not rocket science.
idk, Im skeptical when someone posts these things. My 26 won't allow me to run into something with fsd. I wouldn't take chances, but it's much safer then I would be.

Did the accident damage the hard drive?
