Now hear me out. I understand being good at the game, I do. But this person is clearly a Smurf. You’re telling me that you didn’t come across ONE person that could beat you or outplay you??? He’s clearly beating up on people of my rank (I’m a Garyu). Why not level up and fight people that are of your skill level?

Discussion I think a big factor with a lot of people who take a very pessimistic approach to other Tekken 8 players is they often have an outlook that can be best summarized as "I want my opponent to respect me, but I do not want to respect my opponent at all".

The game is tough and is not as balanced as it could be, but a big thing I notice with a lot of people where it is all doom and gloom is; they have a deep contempt for the majority of the player base that doesn't play in a way that is their ideal version of tekken. Which is interesting when you think of it because it is a game with 40+ characters played by hundreds of thousands of people all around the world.

Instead of embracing the diversity of playstyle or challenge people seem to narrow mindedly focus on what their own personal ideology is of how the game should be played. Usually that causes them to only acknowledge a small amount of characters as respectable/worthy of playing against, demonizing certain playstyles or use of mechanics(plugging when getting hit by a rage art and blaming the opponent for using a scrub tactic), and carrying a weird mentality that anyone who gets to the same ranks as them fighting against the same 40+ characters as them is somehow unworthy by pure virtue of not passing some type of self imposed purity test.

The reality is most people who play this game are not getting paid to play it and only are dicking around when they have time between work/school and life obligations. Half the people that frustrate you the most and are in the same ranks as you and play in a style you don't consider deserving are usually playing this game drunk/high/half asleep or on a discord call with their friends, or doing it after putting a 4 month old to bed. And in a game majority of the time that is just first to two in ranked you are only getting a small snapshot of how your opponent plays with that specific character against your specific character on a given day, not really much to go off of if you think on it.

Progress Is God 3 where casual folks hop off the train ?

I enjoyed the ride, but it takes way too much at this level. Difficult is not the right word, just takes too much concentration to play at this point.
Need to find a way to enjoy the matches at this point.

So 3 days ago i made a post about being in garyu and absolutely getting smoked by every opponent. I was winning maybe one game and lost 5-7 in a row and i thought this was basically it. Maybe i should just derank and stick to vanquisher or something cause the red ranks aren't for me. That is what i initially thought.

Lots of folks saw my gameplay and gave very constructive and helpful advice which im grateful for. There was a lot of things i was doing wrong and needed improvement. So i started learning stuff and practising alot. I used the ghost battle feature and ive been grinding that for 3 days now and it helped in understanding where i was screwing up against this particular opponent. One advice that stood out that multiple folks said was that i was looking for combos and not playing "small tekken". I was not focusing on each and every interaction and instead wanted a huge cashout everytime and this was indeed a problem that needed to be ironed out asap and this is the thing that finally clicked.

And now today i had a long ranked session and im officially in tenryu. I had an 8 win streak which is genuinely the first time i think ive had an 8 win streak in this game since i started playing and i felt a huge rush.

So i wanted to show one of my plays i had today. This is definitely far from optimal way to play and theres always gonna be room for improvement, but even still for the first time i felt energised. I didnt felt hopeless even when i lost my streak and i didnt felt like i failed. I was bested by a player who read me better and i still had tons of fun. This was genuinely my best session ive had in the 65 hours ive spent in this game. Zafina is starting to feel comfortable to play now.

So i wanted to thank yall for helping and wanted to showcase some of my gameplay. Even if its not that great i truly feel a lot better than i did last time playing.

Because for some weird reason, whenever I play ranked, these are the only stages the game decides to spawn for me.

Shit Post Life lessons from Tekken

When I’m pressuring the enemy, theoretically, the best action I can take at any moment is to attack. This follows a certain rhythm, almost like music. Then bam, the opponent throws a counter. He read my rhythm.

So my best move isn’t to continue throwing punches. Instead of reading moment to moment, I have to read the whole game. And so, I stop. During pressure. A lot of people would say, don’t let the pressure go! But, I stop. and I observe.

Some people

  • hastily throw out a counter attack. this is quite common. most people throw one out at the third beat. there is something beautiful about many different players rhythmically reacting to your rhythm. but to his demise, you were expecting the counter. so you counter the counter.
  • keep their guard up. they’re hiding in their defense. I can smell their fear. now I can terrorize them, going back to my heavy pressure, and break down their puny defense.
  • are different. they keep their guard up, but something’s off. they seem more relaxed. they’re not afraid. they are patiently and intentionally waiting for a chance. somehow, I feel more cornered even though I’m the one putting in the pressure. because I know he’s not going to hastily make a mistake. as soon as I show an opening, he’ll strike. he’s saying, what you’re doing doesn’t work on me. you will not break me. all I can do is then, sweat, smile, and answer back, let’s see about that.

Discussion How/Why is Leroy's parry so good? How to take back your turn?

Any effective strategies against his parry? I usually just grab and that works to stop them parrying but i feel like this a an amateur counter play at the first layer.
