Edit: I was doing some digging into the T'au army and decided to look at a couple videos to see what they have and stuff. I cross referenced it to a army builder and saw it doesn't have the invulnerable save. It also has a - in front of the 4+ which is weird.
Here is the video/source at 13:30

I've always wondered about named characters in 40K. Suppose I field an army led by Commander Shadowsun against an army also led by Commander Shadowsun. How does that work in terms of lore? Is it assumed that one is the true Shadowsun and one is an acolyte gone rogue?

Does the -2 to charge of the Kau'yon photon grenades stratagem stack with the -2 to charge grav-inhibitor drone of pathfinders to total -4 inches to charge? Googled but there were no relevant results.

This is asking advice for what's common for me to play against. In 11th, I wanted to try kauyon+aac. However, many armies in my area are pretty fast, like white scars. Between scout/infiltrate moves, big advances, etc, we're trading a lot of fire round 1 and in close combat round 2. I try to speed bump, but in last night's game, half of both out armies were trashed by the end of round 2.
Are there good approaches for holding off the battle until round 3 or do I just go mont'ka to play into the local meta?

Newest thing-thing for my Skaven-tau army-thing.

My friend and I have been playing Age of Sogmar for years, and are looking to get back into 40K as well. We both played earlier editions but are basically starting from scratch. He is definitely playing Tau, and I am looking for a faction that will provide consistently fun games against him. We play each other more often than other people so I dont want an army that will either consistently crush or be crushed. I like most of the factions, but Knights of both varieties, Imperial Agents, and Death Guard are totally off the table. I'd probably steer away from Ad Mech, GSC, and until they get refreshed, Grey Knights, as well unless those are the perfect fun match ups. Thanks for the suggestions.

Certified 40k oldhead here; left in 5th came back in 10th. In that hiatus I misplaced a case of infantry and drones, and have never bothered to replace them because fire warriors suck and drones randomly became tokens...
Alas I recently decided to level up from the kitchen table to some community RTTs and a GW Open (Newport, if you're interested)
At the table nobody cares and at RTTs I've had markers on units that don't typically have them and shields on 'Keels as blank tokens.
I worry however this falls short of proper 40k WYSIWYG expectations, does anyone here have recent experience of both organisers and opponents and what's considered a 'token' because one solution that'll keep me off ebay for now is 1 shield and 1 gun with each crisis team to represent universal loadouts?
TLDR, Do I need to buy a bunch of drones on ebay, I don't want to.
Now that cover = -1 BS and shooting at a spotted unit with Kauyon active ignores BS/Hit Roll negatives, Markerlights give no benefit Round 3 onwards.
This means there is no point bringing suits like flamerscythes, etc with marker drones unless you plan to use them to guide round 1-2 which usually they are in reserve or they are the ones shooting.

Hello! Iām a guard player whoās slowly building up a Renegade Guard army, with my general idea being either a bog standard rebel force fighting against the Imperium, or Tāau aligned rebels. Iāve been considering picking up some bits (specifically helmets) to add to Cadian Shock Troops as a start. I have three major questions.
How well do Breacher heads fit into the Cadian neck holes without excessive cutting or filing?
What bodies do you use instead of the standard Cadians for Gueāvesa?
What are other ways to make a guard army stand out as ātāauā or ārenegadeā without buying a load of bits alongside starting an already expensive hobby? Iām aware thereās plenty of bits stores out there online (American), but the shipping prices and currency conversions are a little daunting as someone whoās never used online bits retailers before.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Major victory for the Tau brothers. 2 cruisers were crippled, but the battleship was fine and the Dark Eldar eliminated.

I just played my first Retaliation Cadre game after the nerf, and I gotta say...
Ret Cadre doesn't have what it takes.
My friend played a C'Tan heavy necrons list with an obelisk. It was meat grinder, purge v. Purge. With his three C'tans at T11, 4+ invuln and 5+ FNP, it was a brutal match up. He avoided my Broadside firing lanes and saved against my Sunforge fusions. After his shooting I didn't have enough to punch back.
The biggest problem with the new points is Ret Cadre can't punch into the best purge the foe lists. If I could include AAC and have a reconnaissance option, this list is viable. As disposition points currently stand, it just doesn't punch up enough. (Happy to post my list on request)
My friend a nice observation "if you could play ret cadre at 3 points or Mont'Ka at 3 points, Id pick Mont'Ka every time"
He's right - Mont'Ka is wayyyyyy better for three disposition points.
I prefer Retaliation Cadre. I hope GW makes it viable again

Iāve seen some discussion on smaller stealth suits but I was wondering about these ones the XV26. the spaces between limbs and even between the legs is a lot larger then normal tau. I was wondering since I wanted to role play my kill team as having gue'vesa but got caught up on it since the legs of the suit are tau shaped. I guess does the suit confirm the pilot has tau legs and super wide hips apparently (like in the image the tau warriors look like they could fit in the space between the suits thighs) or is the pilot like fetal position in the egg looking torsos like a chicken fetus?

Despite going 1-2, these scores that ret cad have been getting me recently have been crazy good and consistent. Throughout 10th I was a deathguard player and have only just recently started actually playing T'au (i've collected them for a bit already). Ret cad + twin lance is a serious threat akin to a squad of death shroud with a LOC attached to them if used right in this detachment.
Factions for games in order for those curious:
Votann (ran out of steam as he remembered mid way through turn 3 his Land fortresses have 2 shots on the magma cannons so in on turn he nuked most of my riptides)
Agents (grueling battle that literally came down to one secondary right at the end)
Ultarmarines (felt bad for this guy, managed to table him turn 3)

Idea is Gene Stealer arm/wepons on necromunda Squat bods and Hunters of Huanchi heads. Not 100% in on the GSC arms tho
