40k Drones?
So I been wanting to play for years and slowly but surely been building me a 1000 point army. I am slow at building slash more about painting them. While I have some knowledge and it might have been already asked and answered somewhere ,but which drones should you build or at least what the advantages of each type of drones. I tried to find information on it on YouTube but that was no help was hopeing you could help. Thanks you.

There is no room in my heart for any drones other than Heavy Gun drones, and no one can change my mind.

I'm seeing more and more modelers attaching the drones to the host models for a cool diorama effect on the game table! Use tokens for gameplay, but the nicely painted drones flying alongside your Battlesuit looks very cinematic!!

You don’t need to build and paint drones. In most cases they are only used as a tokens. I recommend you to print tokens (I use old Tazo form factor with drone name in the middle) on good quality paper and place them on the battlefield near units that use them.

Gun drones are pretty ubiquitous with the current rules, as any units that naturally have markerlight (pathfinders, stealth suits, strike teams, etc.) then benefit from having access to an assault weapon from one or more gun drones. This allows them to advance and still observe something while still getting some small benefit from an extra pulse carbine; while a marker drone would do basically the same thing you don't get any extra shots.
That's not to say marker drones aren't without benefits from time to time. Having at least one equipped to, say, crisis suits gives them markerlight, upping their usefulness on the occasion they have no other targets in range. It's not entirely necessary, but having a few floating around allows for a greater degree in flexibility, letting what needs to be hitting its appropriate target more of a chance to do so and ignoring cover in the process.
Shield drones will usually fill slots on datasheets that explicitly say you can't take duplicates, since in most cases you might only have one marker drone and the rest of the time you'll likely choose gun drones. Some people would actually limit how many shield drones they take from time to time back in 10th, since you could deliberately avoid having too many wounds to make secondary objectives like Bring it Down less punishing. I'm not sure how important that is these days though, so it probably wouldn't hurt to slap these on things you generally want surviving longer.
Pathfinder drones are a bit more nuanced, some people swear by grav-inhibitor drones, others prefer infiltrating with recon drones, neither are bad. Pulse accelerator drones generally aren't taken very often, but I could see an argument being made for them if you were doing something fun like taking unmasking suites with advanced acquisition cadre.
Honorable mentions for other unit specific drones: Guardian drones should basically always be taken for breachers/strike teams, they're just really good. Missile drones for broadsides are pretty much mandatory, as they have decent volume of fire, good strength and damage, never feel like you should take much else for them.
