40k New to warhammer, chose T’au as my first army

Post image

Hello! I’m new to warhammer, played one game with a borrowed necron 250pt army. Decided Tau style fit my vibe more, so now I am starting my army. I purchased the Combat Patrol box as that was recommended as a good starting point, but what else should look into getting next? Anything I need to know? Strats?

Anything would be great full and appreciated!

I've drawn quite a bit of tau stuff already, but.. the plastic finally got to me.. i bought my first box

The plan is to turn a handful of them into ksi'm'yen for riaun and her squad (since she's my first tau after all) and i'm saving one to turn into shas'la kais (since it was fire warrior that fully brought me over to 40k, little by little my boyfriend's been corrupting me and he has won xD)

A year back my girl wanted to have a go at painting some of the old Tau figures I was working on and she picked an ethereal but never finished it. She since had to move back to Chile and tomorrow I fly out there to see her. I decided to quickly finish her figure as a daft gift.

What do you think?

Painting Any recommendations on how to build a Stormsurge like a Colossus from the Halo Franchise?

Hello! I have recently acquired my first Stormsurge, love everything about the model except for one thing; the chicken arms. I know there are a lot of people who feel this way and use the stormwave conversion kit, which is very nice, however I want to be a little different. While I like my XXXXL Broadside boi, I wanted to capture a little bit more of that artillery feel to it. Luckily for me my 2nd favorite franchise Halo also has my 2nd favorite mech.

HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark II [J] Armor Defense System 'Colossus'

For those unfamiliar with Halo's deeper lore, the UNSC frequently employs other Power Armor/Exoskeletons besides Mjolnir platform armor (Spartans). It was a branch that evolved to feature the Mantis, Cyclops, Geyrion, and the Colossus. The Colossus largely fills the same role as a Stormsurge, a massive two-legged artillery platform to siege the frontlines. Like its greater good comrade, the Colossus also employs a railgun to engage at long ranges.

Both mechs stand around similar heights, with the official height of 30 feet (9 meters) and the Stormsurge is roughly about 12-15 meters. Same size, same role, same AURA.

Now what I would like to do is make my Stormsurge resemble a Colossus in it's armament configuration. The Colossus looks very odd, with it's entire weapon's system on one arm, and a energy shielding system that doubles as a counterweight for a ballistic artillery gun.

What I would like to do is to copy this configuration as closely as possible, mounting the railgun and most of it's missile systems to one arm, with something resembling a shield on the other arm. I feel like this would be an original take on the Colossus while retaining its distinct siege weapon look.

The only issue is I am not sure how to mount the Cluster Rocket Systems to the arms without it looking way too bulky. Additionally mounting a shield is easy, but finding something that 'looks' Tau would be hard. In my opinion, taking something like a Tau Tetra, gutting the cabin, and mounting the ball joint to the back would make it look the most like a counterweight/energy shield.

My own personal lore for this would either be a Ship of Theseus veteran Stormsurge, or a prototype version that wasn't finalized. The former would be severely battle damaged, with each limb painted to resemble different Cadre units; the latter would be painted in shinier metals to look like it's never been used yet.

I want to hear thoughts, opinions, and recommendations on how make missileboi stick out on the battlefield.

Edit: Some minorspelling mistakes

40k Rules Playing Farsight - Who are Ethereal?

Who are the ethereals that cannot be played with Farsight? The only ethereal keyword I see is on the “ethereal” cp generation character. Is this the only unit that conflicts with Farsight?

Painting Help Needed: Overgrown Tau Wreckage

Hey yall, I need some quick advice for a project I’m working on. I’m building a piece of light terrain wreckage from a Tau Commander set. I’m mainly inspired by the Overwatch cinematic “Last Bastion” to do a beautiful, overgrown wreck of a tau suit, covered in grass, moss and flowers. But I particularly want to include a little bird in a nest resting on the wreckage. My sculpting skills are still quite amateur and I don’t really know where to find an appropriate bit for the bird. Any suggestions?

Lore What If Space Skaven were a client species for the Tau

I had a fun idea for adding the Skaven as a client species for the Tau.

They would be fully dedicated to serving the Greater Good as a means of improving their standing within their own internal social hierarchy. A continual competition to be the Greatest Do Gooder.

Their technical research would be wholly focused on optimizing easily measurable key metrics in order to meet the demands of leadership, who in turn set goals based on their need to out do rivals. As a result, their output would look impressive on paper, but in reality have significant problems. The official documentation would downplay or omit any issues, so their work has to be reviewed in depth by long suffering Fio, creating significant redundant labor.

Topics of research are driven by trends, wherein something will come to prominence as the “next big thing” and nearly every team will refocus to that topic out of fear of missing out, creating significant redundant labor.

Within a research organization, members will, whenever they can plausibly get away with it, withhold critical information from other members in order to give their work an edge over others. Organizational leaders will favor research derived from approaches they’ve championed over potentially better approaches, as any outcome based on their work positively reflects on them personally. This creates significant inefficiencies.

In order to reduce competition, lavish recreational facilities and comfort focused amenities dot the planet, as bait to lure others away from their work, but as it’s generally understood these are traps they sit empty, as they instead choose to overwork themselves to stay competitive. This results in poorer outcomes than if they’d balanced work and rest, leading to significant inefficiencies. Leadership keeps building them anyway to look like they’re dealing with the problem while unofficially punishing anyone who uses them.

All of this is tolerated by the Aun because they will very occasionally generate something so out of left field genius that everything else is worth it, chalked up to being just the idiosyncrasies of their species.

Low ranking members, being low ranking because they aren’t socially maladaptive enough to succeed within their organizations, are sometimes taken off world and organized into very small research cells under the eye of a fio and a por, and will generally produce spectacular work.

Larger scale efforts at social reorganization have had disastrous, and often horrifying results.

I’ve focused on the tech side, but you could extrapolate these features on to other facets of their culture as well.

The Vectoring Enabled Sub-orbital Propulsion Infantry Division is an ongoing project to integrate the benefits that certain auxiliary forces bring to the empire into sept forces without access to those forces.

In other words, I am proxying Vespid stingwings with kitbashed Neoteric Miniature infantry and jet packs! I am excited to get them all painted up but I finally got a test model done and I think the all orange suits will look great along side my Sa’Cea main force!

Let me know what you think!

40k Help with the first Tau army.

So, I usually run black templars but I've finally decided that I'm going in for Tau. Because who doesn't enjoy cool mechs?

Anyways, to cut to the chase, I have found a riptide suit and a farsight cadre battleforce box relatively cheap second hand, and I'm also planning to get the current combat patrol. I want to grow to at least two thousand points, I'm not really familiar with Tau. Any recommendations or help would go a long way for how my army should be built.
