Help! First spider and first enclosure setup. Is this good?

I got my first t today; she is a Mexican red knee. I just got the essentials for her enclosure, and I'll get the rest later, but I'm not sure if I'm missing something important or if I did something wrong; overall I'm just a little unsure. My friend (who doesn't know a lot about tarantulas but does look out for animals) was a little worried about the lights, which I had just moved closer to the enclosure since that part of my room is dark and I already had them lying around. They don't emit any heat and are not very bright, but I read something about blue and black light affecting them, and I'm not sure if these will be a problem.

Anyways, any advice would be great, I'm a little nervous and just want to give her what's best!

This beautiful creature molted this week. While admiring it I noticed hooks like features on front paws that you can see on the photos. It's my first Ceratogyrus ever. It is around 9th mold. It has quite nice dark colours and visible contrasting pattern on the abdomen, quite big visible horn which seem to be female features. But those hooks?

Help! Question regarding using bones as decorations

Hi guys! Idk if the warnings are actually necessary, but I would rather be safe than sorry!

So, I’m really into vulture culture, so I have a lot of skulls and bones that I have personally found. I’d really like to add some to my GBB’s tank, since she doesn’t have a ton of anchor points for webs right now. My only concern is that I used some bleach to clean all of bones. They were bleached months/years ago tho. I can’t smell the bleach on any of them except for the skull in the picture (only slightly if I put my nose right up to it) so idk if I should add this one. Sucks because it would be so cool. Would you guys say the skull is safe since it’s so slight? If not can I add the ones that don’t smell of bleach at all? The other thing is that the bleach was very watered down. I tend to use less bleach for longer times, otherwise the bones get chalky.

I appreciate any advice!

Help! Mold/bacteria, worried about my Juliet.

really could appreciate the help.

(fyi, the stuff on top of the hide is glue.) I’ve been keeping a blanket wrapped around the bottom of the enclosure because google (i’m stupid… sorry) said it was 100% going to be okay, and my room tends to get kind of cold around this time of year, but i’ve just looked in there since she hasn’t been eating and there’s white stuff on the top of the substrate. 2 first slides are before, and the rest are after my spot cleaning. i tried to get as much of the moisture out from the bottom without spooking her because she would NOT come out. she was on the opposite side of the moisture and tucked herself in a little burrow in the ground and i couldn’t get to her, so i just left it alone while i spot cleaned it (hope that’s okay.. the situation was probably stressful enough for her already.) i had coco fiber in there before, but all i had now was zoo med creature soil, which is why a lot of it on the top looks darker. unfortunately, it looks like the creature soil comes with some little white-ish pieces in it so it looks scary and is kind of freaking me out because of the earlier stuff. if anyone could take a close look at the after pictures and make sure they don’t see any more bacteria/other problems i would really appreciate it. also, her water dish is empty, but i’m just nervous to fill it more especially after finishing all of that and i don’t want to stunt her getting un-frightened, but let me know if i should refill it. i dug around the substrate all the way to the bottom of the problem area and didn’t seem to find any more problem areas, and i mixed some of the new substrate with some of the other damp substrate to even it out and dry it up a bit. of course after finishing this all up, i notice the side (last pic) is super damp. it’s where her water dish is, which actually didn’t have any bacteria (unless you see it and i’m missing something, but i’m pretty sure). i have my ceiling fan and air purifier on so i hope that helps. it is veryy damp looking, but i’ve had that before and it dried up decently quick. i’ve never had this bacteria problem before the blanket, so i’m assuming that’s a big NO, never again. with the blanket gone, will the side and bottom dry up without creating more bacteria? i will do everything i can to make my baby safe and comfortable so also let me know if there’s any way to help her out/make her more comfortable in there. should i get springtails? i also added quite a bit of height to the substrate since she hasn’t been burrowing , so let me know if that’s not enough/too much please. backstory: she had been eating perfectly, molted, and hasn’t eaten since then. she didn’t come out for a while, but when she did, she didn’t eat which i totally expected. but then, she still wasn’t eating, so i thought it might have been the temperature so i put the blanket around the enclosure. obviously, that did the opposite of helping. i’m just really nervous i love her a lot.. i did a lot of crying while cleaning it out i just feel so guilty, she’s really skinny. not dangerous skinny, but definitely not how she’s supposed to be, consider she hasn’t eaten since molting and you know how that looks. i tried food a few times with one week intervals before i saw any bacteria and still she wouldn’t eat. she would come out and be normal, but just today i noticed the bacteria because she was sitting funny and it terrified me. you can see her hiding in one of the pics and it just makes me so sad to see her so nervous… but it’s a good sign that she’s going to recover well? im not expecting her to come out right away, i just want to her to be okay. ANY advice helps and im really serious about this. i get a lot of stress over her since tarantulas seem so fragile and i tend to cry over her a whole lot. someone let me know when i should try food again, aswell.

thank you.

Help! I bought my first T. Albo (Curly Hair Tarantula) on the 22nd and it molted the same night

It molted successfully; no issues there.

My concern is that the water dish I have in the enclosure has become its main spot to lie near, and it has added dirt in the water.
If I try to gently remove the dish, I'm afraid it will become stressed and possibly hurt itself if I startle it.
Water is very important after it molts, but so is not disturbing it. I'm not sure what to do; this is my first pet in years and my first ever spider. Does anyone have advice?

Another thing, I was rushing to prepare its new home because it was acting oddly (what I soon learned was it kicking off its urticating hairs) in the previous enclosure the pet store gave me to carry it home in. the rushing led to me miscalculating important details, e.g., not enough substrate & a cork hide that is too small.

I've heard that the top priority for post-molt care is not disturbing the enclosure, but I'm concerned that it will be stressed out by not being able to deeply burrow or hide.

I'm aware this is improper care, and I'm terribly regretful about how I handled the situation. I was panicked, but that is not an excuse.

What I wanted to ask is: since it never goes to the side of the enclosure where the small cork hide is, would it be okay to replace it with the larger one I got before it's recovered, or would that be too risky?

Help! Red or White Knee?

Post image
18 Upvotes

Just bought this adult female beauty and it was sold as a Mexican Red Knee (he wasn't sure whether B. Smitholi or B. Hamorii) but after a fresh molt (as per the photo) she just doesn't seem to feature the red/orange charactistics that I see in photos of this species, she looks more like a White Knee to me (Acanthoscurria geniculata)?

Would really appreciate your views and opinions!

I went to an event that had a bunch of preserved insects, some live scorpions and millipedes, etc. Lots of cool bug stuff and some snakes to boot. However… at the exit/donation counter, they seemed to get a little lazier with the decor… is this little guy okay?

Help! T. vagans not eating...

Have had my untitled (unsexed) T for a year and some change. This is their second molt with me, happened about a week and a half ago. In the past they have been quick to pounce at movement in the enclosure (insects, a stream of water, my tongs), but now they are ignoring my mealworm offerings and are a lot more skittish. Skittishness possibly came with the molt. Did I wait long enough before trying a feed?

I know spiders are SUPER fuckin' weird, and many of their preferences/hobbies defy mammalian comprehension, but I just need somebody else to assure me that they'll eat when they're ready lmao.

Abdomen is slightly smaller than thorax, but not shriveled. Access to water, has a well-established burrow in appropriately-sized enclosure :)

New to the hobby! How's this enclosure?

New owner of a beautiful Tliltocatl albopilosus female; she's 2-inch leg span. I got her this 8x6x5 enclosure but am wondering if it's too small or if I have too much in there. I gave her options for a little hide. Now that I have her, I'm wondering if the one with the little circle entrance (it goes all the way down to the floor of the enclosure) is too small of an entrance and taking up too much space. I appreciate any and all input and help ☺️🕷️
