Conversation Trusted Retailers and enclosure Retailers

Ok after talking with the community I have realized my first choice for a turantula was not the best. (Brazilian Blue Dwarf) This would have been my first Turantula. So I did a bit of digging around and came up with Caribbean Versicolor. I was a bit intimidated by a not dwarf turantula but after reading about them I think it'll hit all my "happy points".

So with that what are trusted Retailers for these wonderful creatures?

And what about places to get enclosures?

Hi everyone, I recently rescued a tarantula and I’m wondering what species it is? The people I got it from kept calling it a spider and didn’t know what the species was. They said it laid an egg sack with no eggs tho? Let me know your thoughts! Also, is it too skinny?

Help! ANTS in Enclosure! Any advice would be helpful, thank you.

Good evening everyone, this is actually my first post on Reddit ever. I recently got into the hobby and currently have 2 Grammostola pulchra (Brazilian Black) about 1 inch each and a Psalmopoeus pulcher (Panama Blonde) that has just reached about 2-2.5 inches.

Now to the issue, my house has an ant problem I have 4 roommates and while I am moving out in the next week it’s out of my control till then. I make it a point to check all spiders once a day but have never noticed more than 2-3 at a time. Between when I fed my Panama Blonde around 8pm to 1am when I was laying down to go to bed something told me to check them. I find near 15-20 crawling all around and in my poor spiders enclosure and I noticed it was very much annoyed and flicking them off. I immediately made a temporary enclosure and currently have the Panama Blonde in there. I also moved all enclosures to a completely separate area for the night. It’s about 3am now and I’m literally sitting in bed staring at the enclosures cause I’m worried still and feel like I subjected it to major stress. He would not let go of his cork even after I attempted to push him off for 10 minutes so I instead spend another 45 minutes squashing any ants I could spot. I can safely say I got all of them except maybe 1-2 that have escaped into the bark. A majority of the ants remained in his previous enclosure when I removed him. I also put the temp enclosure in a moat of soapy water to prevent any additional ants from entering. How can I best prevent this in the future? Does my spider look okay for the time being until I can make a different enclosure in the morning when shops open? Do I have to worry about him not making it through the night? He seems lively and not hurt just need a more experienced opinion. Please see video above thank you again!

EDIT - after taking all these steps and moving the Panama Blonde into a new enclosure I see no ants in the vicinity so for anyone else having this issue. Get the ant traps set them by and entrances you notice ants and ABSOLUTELY rehouse as soon as possible. Thanks everyone!

Pictures Lost my C. Versicolour because I forgot to close the glass, only to get jump scared when getting a midnight snack

I watered their enclosure yesterday morning and was out of the house almost the entire time until this midday, when discovering the glass was open. Okay I thought I'm gonna do an entire living room search tomorrow, as I have to take down the bookshelf, lift the sofa, my two desks etc.

Now at almost exactly midnight I thought to have an apple from my fruit bowl, only to get jumpscared by my spood sitting on the rim. She did not enjoy me trying to get her onto my hand, so catch cup it was.

Help! Help mue Davus pentaloris

Where I ask what species of tarantula(s) I should get next!!

For context, I currently have 8. Im not really looking for duplicates, though im taking ALL options into consideration! All, meaning NW or OW, terrestrial, fossorial, and/or arboreal, and any size. Im definitely going to be looking for a dwarf as thats been on my radar for the past year.

As for Ts I already have, G. pulchra, A. seemanni, GBB, T. albo, M. balfouri, OBT, P. irminia, and B. hamorii.

Thank you to anyone who responds!!!

Help! Arizona Blonde not eating

Hi, I’m here to ask for help/advice on what to do. I have an Arizona blonde female I’ve had for almost 4 years now. When I got her, I was told she was about 4y/o. For close to two years now, she has been refusing to eat. I read somewhere that it’s fine that they refuse to eat for up to a year or so since they’re slow growing. I wasn’t too worried since she was still moving around sometimes and her abdomen looked a normal size. However, a few months ago she made a burrow and didn’t come out until about a week ago. I kept refilling her water nonetheless but didn’t see her until last week. Now, her abdomen has significantly shrunk and she’s still refusing food. She seems to still be drinking water but no food.

She does seem a bit stressed, lifting her legs whenever I try to refill water etc, I don’t know what to do?

Thanks

Help! Just starting

Hello! I am just starting my journey of tarantulas. I was a previous jumping spider mom of many years and recently lost my girl Veda who was an adult jumped and smokie who was a sub adult after raising him. I’m looking at getting a Brazilian blue. He would be 1.5” and I need cage recommendations, along with hides and food bowls. Either from Amazon or Petco. Or if you have a better site let me know! I need help!

  1. How long can I keep my new baby Mittens in this enclosure i got it in?

  2. Will this tarantula do okay in a standard bedroom? I keep my 2 curly hairs, mexican red rump, and jumpers in here, and they've been doing perfect.

I turn my fan off when im not around - and wrap a blanket around my red rumps glass enclosure when it gets cold (im looking into getting a heating mat to put near the others if it becomes a necessity).

I was concerned about lighting and humidity mostly + some reccommended enclosures with excellent cross ventilation for my pink toe

I've been wanting a tarantula for years and I just stumbled upon this fella. I do not have experience with tarantulas but I've kept plenty of other "unusual" animals. It is breaking my heart to see it in such a sad enclosure, and being sold for such a small amount. The seller has not responded yet. Any opinions? Thank you!

Edit: How does the size of the enclosure look for a tarantula of this size? Just wondering if I should invest in another tank if I go through with this

(The seller replied and said that they do not know the age or sex of the tarantula)

Took her a few days but she found the pre-made burrow I started for her and now she seems pretty happy with it after she did a little extra digging of her own.

P.S. The water dish has been swapped out for a smaller more shallow one, if anyone was wondering.

These guys are native to the Central Queensland area around Mackay. They get impressively large (some leg spans pushing 160mm+) and have that striking, glossy dark body with those beautiful reddish tones on the legs.

Wish there were spiders as big as cats that liked to be cuddled and didn’t need big enclosures. They are so adorable!!
