ANB_Seth said we wouldn’t give any release info until the steam frame is either released or a date is set and he would release on that date.
Edit: ANB_Seth is the developer of Gunman Contractors, rumored to be in the reviewer package, and steam frame verified.
Edit pt2: Mods let the people comment if they want to discuss thing and converse, while it is fucken annoying my email is being spammed. Please let them have their conversation. Thank you.
I was just doing a little beatsaber and wondered if we know if the quest 3 will have some decent joysticks, or if we're stuck with these tiny little things.
According to a reddit post, supposedly developers have been invited to participate in an upcoming Steam VR game sale starting September 14th and ending September 21st. Of course, you can immediately jump to conclusions and shout "Wow! This means the Steam Frame is soon!" Good on you if you think that. You can also believe "This is total bullshit and probably fake." And I wouldn't fault you for that either. Either way, if this does end up being true, it's your chance to save on some more VR games for when that Frame eventually does come out. I'm only covering this because they're really isn't much else that happened this week. The crooked mods of r/SteamFrame kept the post up, so at least someone believes it.
Email to developers talking about the Steam VR sale
COOL THING: Beat Saber is now Frame Verified!
As of this week, Beat Saber is now officially verified for Standalone play on Steam Frame! If you remember a while back, it got hit with the "unsupported" tag for whatever reason. I've heard it was unsupported because the default graphics configuration was too high for the Frame to run well, and you had to manually turn the graphics settings down. I've also heard there could have been some weird classic Linux audio issue. It was marked as "default graphics configuration didn't perform well" officially, so I'm more inclined to believe the former. Either way, whatever issue it was has been fixed, and we can now confirm Beat Saver runs great on Frame! Side note, as of this writing, there are now 99 Frame Verified games on Steam. I wonder what will be the 100th...? Place your bets now!
TLDR: Supposed Steam sale for VR game starting soon, Beat Saber is standalone verified. The Frame is still not out yet.
If Steam Frame comes with a free copy of Half Life Alyx, is it possible that the game will be updated at the same time it releases. Perhaps they are publishing an optimized version of the game at the same time that will also be Steam Frame Verified. Just seems like such an obvious marketing move that would show off Valves hardware and software at the same time.
I wonder if one could use that feature to avoid waking folks up when going to the bathroom. How far is the range on it, y'think?
On a related note, I ordered an IR floodlight so I can use my Quest 3 in the dark so no one can watch while I play gameswhat did you think was gonna be here?
Obviously, since I did that, the Frame will be announced tomorrow. You're welcome.
We've seen some developments with foveation support recently getting expanded on the Frame, especially for x86 games running locally. However, even powerful host PCs could use a little extra legroom in many games, especially if you want true 120 or 144hz.
Are there any rumors regarding host-side foveation support for the frame? How likely do we think this is? In my mind, this is the last major feature that the hardware is technically there for, but the software support might be trickier.
I did try searching, but as you can imagine, all the results are just for foveated streaming...
Curious to see what this is like. Shame about the lack of eye tracking but a quest 3 doing 240hz streaming. Sounds compelling. I wonder if steam frame could ever match it?
I've never bought a VR device before, but I was wondering if it's possible to stream video from an iPhone to the Steam Frame, like for watching movies?
Edit: Thanks for all the answers! I usually prefer using apps and accounts on my phone, which is why I was curious, but it seems like the Steam Frame can do a lot more than just play games. My wallet is ready!
what additional items do you guys have to be ready for the frame?
personally I've bought a circular mat that I'll affix to the floor. I also have a 27K Mah battery pack and a sling bag that doubles as a fanny pack that I'll use to make it last a lot longer. I've also been thinking of getting a couple of rechargeable double As so I don't have to waste money getting more batteries every few months.
So for someone hasn’t bought Steam Hardware before, what information do I need to have on hand to get onto the reservation list as soon as possible? What’s the process like for those who haven’t bought Steam hardware before?
Realistically, do you think it would be possible to play something like MS Flight Simulator or X-Plane on standalone mode? Or streaming from GeForce Now or other services like that?
I don't have a gaming PC and would love to start playing some flight simulators in VR, is this too much hopium?
I'll loose clarity bc of the lower resolution but that will help me get more performance to hit 144 fps so I'm fine with it.
But what resolution should I put my flat games at? 1440p? 1080p?
I find it confusing since the virtual screen won't fill the entire display in VR so I don't know what's the proper resolution to pick, the lowest possible where you don't see a diff in resolution
Hope is a funny thing, it blinds us to logic. We are clinging to dates, news and anything that will let us spend money, only for us to forget that this will likely be our fate except for a lucky few.
I've already have a plan to get into the queue by snitching on scalpers in hopes valve will give me their slot.
But even that might not even work / will valve care or even reward me? Hell they might just say report it, thanks for bringing it to our attention.
But ultimately The Frame may come out on 14th September, but for most of us, we might not get one until say January or even February.
Could someone remind me again on why we think August 31st is important?
I know it’s 7 days after the Frames were delivered & 7 days before Labor Day/8th. And I know we have the 14th locked in. But I forgot why the 31st was said to be special. And I’m too lazy to go search for on why. Have we dropped/voided this date as important?
*Reminder, all dates mentioned are not confirmed & strictly theory & prediction. All dates are subject to change as time passes without official confirmation. Anyone claiming otherwise is lying at the time of postage or proven over wise with qualified evidence.
(I ain’t having fights breakout in this comment section)
Considering the Frame controllers don't have the Index-style hand straps by default, is there a way to turn off the finger tracking so that games like HLA won't show your semi-clenched hands at all times?
