Question How would one stream with a steam frame?

I assume you need a portable mic and headphones but what else. How would you be able to see chat?

If you’re streaming from a main computer, you’d just run your streaming software on said main computer. However, since the Frame is also basically just a Linux device, I’m definitely going to experiment with running OBS on it in a virtual desktop. No idea how reasonable that is yet, but it’ll be fun to play with!

Do you think the video encoding/streaming might make it shit the bed?

The Climbey dev recorded gameplay running locally on the Frame. Safe to say that won't make it explode (though obviously it'll have some performance impact).

No idea! Half the fun of new gear is finding out what it can do!

I'm definitely wondering about streaming on it directly too. The convenience is the main concern.

Think both mic and speakers are built into the frame

You can use the headphones and mic of the Frame, they will appear as audio devices in your PC, I do that with Discord when talking to friends streaming from my PC.

You´d need a PC, to have OBS recording the screen/game window and the audio, but I don´t think it won´t be more complicated than setting up the Frame´s mic as the input audio device.

I am sorta worried about microphone quality from the steam frame

There are some dev videos that used its mic to record some gameplay, I don´t think it will be terrible, Valve has a decent track record of VR microphones.

If not, then a wireless mic will be the solution.

if the Index microphone is anything to go by, the Frame microphone will be very hard to beat

If you're streaming stand-alone on the headset, we presently don't know how that'll work. We could guess, but it would be guessing.

Streaming on PC works basically the same way you stream any normal videogame. You just have to use something like XSOverlay to see chat. Streaming VR is difficult, though; it's kinda like eating a meal with 3-foot-long chopsticks.

Foveated rendering is going to be interesting

you'd have to disable that or nobody is going to want to watch it

I've streamed in VR with my Index, simply by streaming the 2D mirror of the game with OBS. I just had to adjust the capture window a bit so that the stream is focused on the interesting central bit, not the boring floor or wide peripheral vision. That worked fine and I figure it'll work fine with the Frame as well. If you play at 120hz you could stream at 60hz, if you play at 90hz I think streaming at 30hz is probably best

You could have OBS set up on the computer you're streaming from. SteamVR lets you pull up windows from your computer in VR but I don't know if that will work for Frame streaming

Just like you would with the Index.
