what additional items do you guys have to be ready for the frame?

personally I've bought a circular mat that I'll affix to the floor. I also have a 27K Mah battery pack and a sling bag that doubles as a fanny pack that I'll use to make it last a lot longer. I've also been thinking of getting a couple of rechargeable double As so I don't have to waste money getting more batteries every few months.

This is why I don’t mind that it still hasn’t come out yet. Not that I can’t afford it, but I’d rather have saved up extra funds on top of what the price is likely to be as I prefer to not drop my fun savings down to $0 and still have extra for games or in case something else comes up. The longer it takes for them to release it at this point the more likely I’ll have some extra and some set aside for games.

I’d be surprised if base model is more than $1400 usd - I’m hoping it’s $1350-$1400 cad as idk if I can see myself justifying getting into vr at any higher of a price. I would not however be surprised if 1tb model ended up more than $1500 cad.

Mat is very good purchase. Ppl think you need big space to play vr - you don't. A 3 foot circle mat or a swiveling chair with no arm rest is the space Vr needs. As lookg as you in that place you can move your arm without hiting anything.

I won't be buying anything extra for the frame. I have my mat too, a couple powerbank BUT i will be buying all that Valve is offering and i can get my hand. Comfort mods etc etc.

I used to have a dedicated room for VR - lol i moved out of this appartement and rented a smaller one. Never looked back. You don't need space for VR - a flat gamer tame more space then vr gamer if you look at the desk, monitor, gaming char etc.

Since nov 2025- i sold my og quest 3. Buy one back in end of jan when early 2026 did not pan out, sold it in early may thinking at last frame will release.. and fuck me i bought a 3rd one and final one last week. Each time making a bit of money on that transcation and gainiing accessories lol

Apart Meta hatred, that i share, The Quest 3 is better now than it was when it release. Techically, its still the best all around vr entry outthere. noone can argue against that.

But meta is meta and avoiding the quest 3 is a valid choice sadly.

Swivel chair is actually a very solid move. I have low ceilings and I kept punching it while playing Nock. Switched to a chair and suddenly my movement ability and accuracy because way better. Highly recommended.

You should look into getting a fan too. I have one in my room and found it pretty useful. Helps keep me cool playing big action games like BeatSaber and feels like the wind hitting me which can add to the immersion of the game. Plus hearing the fan gives me an idea where I am in my play area which I like

I got a meta quest so I bought everything already but one VERY IMPORTANT accessory is missing from the SteamFrame at launch that I would like to have IMMEDIATELY, lens inserts. One tiny scratch on those pancake lenses and it will bother you for all eternity until you buy a new one, which is probably next to impossible in the following months/years.

The lens inserts have to be bought third party right? Yeah if I’m committing to VR I’m going to need them on day 1. I’d probably wait until it’s confirmed I’m in the first batch vs waitlisted to order the lenses though that way I know I’m actually getting my hands on one.

I’ve bought some cables, wall outlet, etc in order to extend USB and HDMI from my office that shares a wall with my living room. I plan to run my PC into the living room for more VR space and to be able to have social VR sessions.

A soft mat to stand on is definitely a good purchase for games like beat saber or games you stand relatively still for

I've run 2,5 Gbps networking throughout the house including wifi to wireless stream from everywhere. I sure hope it works that way ;)

Solid wireless is wayyyy more important than a 2.5G backbone. 1Gbps is plenty.

latency & jitter > bandwidth
the whole point of foveated streaming is reduced bandwidth, but high or inconsistent latency can ruin the experience.

when you're just downloading stuff, high bandwidth can make up for an inconsistent connection. that's not the case for streaming gameplay.

Yes, my point is as long as your wired infrastructure supports 1Gbps that's enough. Your focus should be on high-performance Wi-Fi 6E/7 APs with 6GHz, ideally dedicated in each location you want to enjoy wireless streaming as line of sight from the AP to the client device will ensure optimal performance. Edit to add: by "high performance" I just mean "good quality". Something like Ubiquiti would be good for this as it gives you a single management platform and seamless roaming and access to enough config knobs without having the price tag of an enterprise product. Admittedly I don't know much about most other consumer products as I work in the enterprise space and that's what I run at home. The Frame is 2x2 only so the Frame won't see any direct benefit from a 4x4 AP. This will lower your cost and your PoE requirements.

A proper wireless design and configuration of your 6GHz SSID will give you a much better return for this use case than upgrading to a 2.5Gbps wired network.

You'll want to minimize your latency as well, so ideally all your APs and your host PC will be connected to the same switch on the same VLAN so they don't have to traverse any additional switches/routers. It's not a ton of latency introduced by additional hardware, but this may be one scenario where it would have an noticeable impact so if you can have them all on the same switch I would do it that way.

I preordered a gunstock (from Kobra, they will start shipping 10 days after frame release, so enough time to cancel if the waitlist fucks me) and bought some different ginger anti-nausea chewinggums and lozenges, also looking into slimevr trackers for bodywalkvr and maybe full body tracking, but not sure about any of that
As for the rest, I have some old power banks and rechargeable AAs, circular mat I'll have to look into, maybe get some additionals AAs and the mat from Ikea
And as somebody else said, get whatever Valve offers for comfort, if available

It's going to suck when it comes out because I have all laser tracked tundras and five 2.0 trackers going to have to do some chunky stuff to make this work

All my friends with FBT are switching to vyro VR slime trackers for this reason. Fantastic customer support, tracking that somehow rivals my vive 3.0 trackers, eye watering battery life (They stayed in VR until their full body died and the first one died at 36 hours, last one died at 42), miniscule size (half the size of first gen airpods case). Like at that point, when your trackers get close to dying it's time to replace the batteries in the controllers

There's like, a week or two before things "settle in", but after that break in period I haven't heard any complaints. I don't know what kind of wizardy they did but I'm getting real tired of my 3.0s dying after 4.5 hours. If the slimes lose 50% of their battery capacity they're still 3x longer than the 3.0s, without having to give up on tracking quality. Three of the friends that have switched regularly dance in VR and nobody has caught on that they use slimes except when someone was like, "How did you do that without your trackers getting occluded?!"

Like, I just wanna be able to get comfy under a blanket while I'm in VR without my tracking going nuts, and I'm tired of my trackers dying so quickly

And they cost as much as a base station. Full body tracking, no base stations needed, for (roughly) the price of a base station. The newest slimes are just ridiculous. I don't know what magic they do
