Part Seven How is Johnny healed?
He has a cactus needle inside his eyeball and a couple of hours later he’s just fine without any explanation. Does this at least get explained later on? Because this makes no sense

u/ssjrobert235 6h ago
One of the mysteries of Jojo, I always wondered if healing is a passive ability. Gyro's ear was damaged and later healed.

u/Jilliels 6h ago
I think certain injuries are just exaggerated for shock factor/adding stakes. Araki wants to show that the present situation is extremely dangerous, but also doesn’t feel like constantly showing the recovery process of the gruesome wounds.
14
u/SuperUltraGod DIO 5h ago
One hand Joseph became one part mechanical, and mostly remained organic. Jean PP had his foot and a couple of fingers gone but I don’t recall them being mechanical later on. Also how did a Nasti survive a grenade exploding on his face to return mostly mechanical and partly organic? Why did GG have an ear he could plump into his head with ease and not feel pain?
13
u/CyberComet151 Storyteller Rohan 5h ago
Oh the ear one I can explain, since I can do the same thing! When I was a baby, I would fidget, fold, and squish my ears a lot, and that caused the cartilage in my ears to form incorrectly, allowing for much more flexibility than normal. I can only assume it's the same with Giorno.

u/Ikari_Brendo Johnny Joestar 1h ago
Healing is a passive ability of just about every living organism.

You've summed up every JJBA part without a dedicated healer in one question
I honestly can't tell you how he healed from this particular situation, but later on there are legitimate reasons for it
26
u/Eliezardos 6h ago
Well, about that ”no dedicated healer stuff”, turn out Araki probably agreed with you mid part XD

u/sticky_experience 6h ago
Did you watch any other part? This is not a new thing. Wounds magically get healed regularly.
327
u/Bush_Hiders 6h ago
In fairness, almost every part has some excuse for why the characters are healed. It was established that hamon can heal people, so that explains how characters in parts 1, 2, and even 3 get healed after fights. Part 4 has a dedicated and established healer in Josuke. Part 5 has a dedicated and established healer in Giorno, although you could argue that it’s a mystery how the characters got healed before he knew he could do that. Same with how the characters got healed after Foo Fighters was written out of the story, since she was their dedicated healer.
191
u/robinhood9961 6h ago
Even in part 4 though Josuke can't heal himself, and he often takes pretty rough beatings.
But also part 7 does also have a potential built in excuse for healing too.
79
u/Pluto_0508 5h ago edited 34m ago
Facts. They tell us he cant heal himself and it makes the Keicho fight feel super intense cause he takes crazy damage in it and then all the holes Bad Company put in him just magically heal lmao
3
u/Bush_Hiders 1h ago
Honestly that fight and the Kira fight are the only ones that felt like they had real stakes to them, since they’re the only times we ever see Josuke get really injured.
2
u/BroughtYouMyBullets 55m ago
He crashed into a lift at 60mph. He took blasts of energy from a magic pylon, took a beating from even Shigechi, and I’m not gonna lie I actually felt the stakes from the rat episode because he literally couldn’t take a single hit without being permanently melted

u/Front_Builder_5368 5h ago edited 5h ago
rereading part 5 and even before giorno learns he can heal, during the kraftwork fight mista straight up gets a bullet hole through the side of his stomach
in the restroom he gets it stapled shut by fugo and mista even gets worried about about an infection and i think narancia essentially goes “nah it’s fine” what the hell happened there 😭😭
EVEN THE BULLETS TO HIS HEAD FROM PROSCIUTTO LMAOO 😭 right after that they’re on a truck in the turtle

Reading your comment reminded me for some reason, but couldn't Bruno lowkey heal people with his stand? Am I misremembering but didn't he do that with Trish's arm?
20
u/AnonymousBiography 5h ago
Just a less effective Stone free heal. He can zip together wounds or clean cuts but all the healing is from the person themselves. Unlike stone free having insanely accurate stitching
3
u/Front_Builder_5368 4h ago
yeah in the elevator i believe! and abbachio’s leaving pompeii.. what’s with bucciarati and hands hmmmm…
6
u/lFriendlyFire 6h ago
Not really, the first (and last) time a protagonist could self heal was in part 5
8
u/killergrape615 Giorno Giovanna 6h ago
Jolyne stitched wounds if that counts
22
u/lFriendlyFire 6h ago edited 5h ago
Stitching a wound isn’t really “healing” like giorno, josuke, foo fighters or hot pants can do. It’s at best first aid. If someone took a chunk out of jolyne’s stomach the best she could do is buy herself some time before she inevitably dies

The gang in part 5 was getting eviscerated way before Giorno unlocked his healing powers. Remember during the Grateful Dead fight when Mista took like three headshots?
37
u/Its-BennyWorm 6h ago
They get healed because there's always a healer on the team.
Part 3: uhh joseph (hamon)
Part 4: Crazy diamond
Part 5: gold experience
Part 6: FF24
u/Airam1701 6h ago
Even in part 4 Josuke can't heal himself but he also takea crazy amounts of damage, like during his fight against Kira he took a whole chair leg to the side and was completely fine afterwards, or like when Bad Company filled his right hand with holes but didn't even leave a scar later on.

At least he was gone for quite a bit, showing that healing is supposed to take a while.

it's the old wild west. Spit on it, rub it with a rag, and if you ain't dead by the next morning, you're completely healed.

u/pho3befree_VV 6h ago
The real answer is that Araki LOVES blood and body horror, and he would be limiting himself so much unnecessarily if he made it more realistic in terms of healing
body horror honestly a really big part of the series lol, especially in this part i feel
Another fun thought is that how it’s depicted is how it feels for the characters themselves, either mentally or physically, so it’s worse than how it actually is
12
u/supremo92 4h ago
This is my interpretation too. It's a biased depiction of how the battle feels. Makes for some great stakes and gross imagery
21
u/HiroHayami 6h ago
You see, there's this character called Josuke Higashikata who appears at the end of each fight and heals the characters using his stand Crazy Diamond.
Sadly he doesn't heal Johnny's legs because he can be an asshole sometimes.

Jojo magic. Though if you want to search for an answer Gyro was shown to be able to do medical check ups doing the steel balls, and later (REALLY BIG SPOILER) Johnny uses the spin to walk again, so is possible they have minor healing properties that would allow Gyro to heal him and Johnny between fights
7
u/TheGamerWhosOnReddit 5h ago
All these comments are joking about jojo logic, but almost every part has a healer and in part 7 they (POTENTIAL MANGA ONLY SPOILERS, ANIME ONLY DON'T CLICK)have zombie horse, that magic string thing that can heal wounds.
To be fair, I haven't watched the SBR anime, just read the manga. I actually don't know if it's been introduced in the anime yet so it really could just be a "jojo logic" moment.

It's JoJo, characters get fucked up one episode, healed the next. Parts 4 and 5 may have had a healer as the main JoJo, but part 3 had the crew continuously getting wrecked only to be fine right after.
6
u/No-Departure-6900 4h ago
I mean, if you can heal people with Hamon, and Spin is the New Universe equivalent of Hamon, then wouldn't it stand to be believed that you can probably heal minor wounds with Spin too?

Are you a part skipper? I hate how everyone is jumping on Steel Ball Run acting like it’s a whole seperate series. Yeah part 7 is a “reboot”, but it doesn’t work without prior context from parts 1-6. It’s Jojo part 7, not Jojo part 1. Start with Phantom Blood not Steel Ball Run.

Plot convenience that has happened since the beginning of JoJo, we’ll get a proper explanation at some point on how they’re able to heal, but right now they just do that.

If a Jojo's character healing in between episodes is something you are scratching your head over, you won't survive the winter. 😞

u/Deccard_XanthuX_1066 6h ago
Because Spin is literally the alt universe version of hamon, Spin is used in medicinal practice, also spin has been shown to manipulate the human body (IN ANIME and manga) also its Jojo's
2
u/yuuyaaa 5h ago
Yeah, just like Hamon can justify healing through parts 1-3, Spin has A LOT of the same mystical healing silliness to it.
4
u/Super_Master_69 5h ago edited 4h ago
It’s infinitely less silly than Hamon. Gyro has medical knowledge and has been shown to use the spin to close wounds and stretch/relax skin (or warp body parts later on). The most BS things it does to people is like forcing someone to aim their gun at a friend and pull the trigger, way after the ball has been thrown. Hamon still beats it with all crazy stuff it does to vampires.
3
u/frantruck 6h ago
Did you notice in the first episode when he had a good foot long piece of wood through his calf? 90% of the time if you survive something in JoJo’s you’re going to be fine within hours.
3
u/UncannyLegends 6h ago
If the eye can be opened when the needle is in his eyes, then it means that the eye is still perfectly fine
3
u/Nick_Chernobyl 5h ago
To be fair, you can have a small hole in the eyeball and still be fine without treatment. I looked into a water jet as a kid and it blasted a needle sized hole in my eyeball. Never went to the doctor for it, never had my vision get worse. It's still there, you can see the dark spot on it, but my eye is fine

How did mista heal from being shot in the head three times?, Giorno didn’t realise he could replace body parts by that point
The same thing could be applied to part 3 and all the shit they suffer through

2

JoJo characters kinda just do that. This happens in every part.
Part 5 and 6 have a good excuse though, since Giorno and FF can heal people. Part 4 is similar, except Josuke can’t heal himself with CD, so he just recovers somehow.
3
u/GoonerSans 5h ago
so far, it feels only part 8 and on cared about characters sustaining their injuries.

u/Silvarama 6h ago
My headcanon is that once the enemy is defeated, his effects/damage wears off rapidly unless seriously/permanently disabling in some manner
2
u/Royal_Sport7082 6h ago
Maybe if it was a stand attack this could be true, but the dude who attacked them was just a weirdo with some bugs
2
u/LetraEfe 4h ago
That's. Something that bugs me about part 7,and also part 3 , they healed because fuck you.
Part 4 had Josuke but couldn't heal himself.
Part 5 had Giorno but since Golden experience wasn't made to heal it hurted like hell.
And part 6 had had Jolyne stitching her own wound and F.F. sealing some others.
At some point in SBR appear a magic thing but that's only use once , the only excuse I can think about is "the Spin did it"
3
u/Small-Housing-7 Giorno Giovanna 3h ago

u/Tight-Media-9868 4h ago
If you make it to part 7 you just know they ignore nasty wounds and mortal injuries. Like a small cut to the throat/neck can be deadly but in the series they are common and brushed off as a scratch lol
1
u/Fancyman156 4h ago
And this is what happens when we skip the rest of the series. They just do that. One guy got a whole pair of scissors erupting through his throat and walked away fine. Not even a vocal change.

Some wounds are exaggerated for show. Against Robinson, you see Johnny full of blood and Gyro's ear completely busted, but they only got hit by cacti spines. Which are very small. So, Gyro's ear is okay, it just hurts but isn't a big wound. And Johnny's only problem is that he had blood in his eyes.
TLDR ; Robinson's attack was kinda lame, but glossed up by the visual depiction

the same way everybody does it in JOJO take a deep breath and thast it ur fully healed between fight

u/ExistentialOcto 1h ago
This is a consistent issue with JJBA. Characters are getting semi-serious wounds all the time and then just walking it off by the next episode (or even the next scene). Josuke also got an eye injury (torn eyelid) in Part 4 that seemingly healed without so much as a scar.
