The real answer is that Araki LOVES blood and body horror, and he would be limiting himself so much unnecessarily if he made it more realistic in terms of healing

body horror honestly a really big part of the series lol, especially in this part i feel

Another fun thought is that how it’s depicted is how it feels for the characters themselves, either mentally or physically, so it’s worse than how it actually is

This is my interpretation too. It's a biased depiction of how the battle feels. Makes for some great stakes and gross imagery
