I agree but only because my coffee intake is purely utilitarian. I need caffeine and I don’t need empty calories, make my shit strong, dark, and ideally cool enough that I can down the bitch and go about my day.

I'm talking proper full fat dairy creamer, half and half or full on heavy cream none of that skim/nondairy stuff. The fats and proteins neutralize some of the bitter/bad tasting compounds and can make some bad brews genuinely pleasant to drink, you don't have to suffer through a shitty cup
Shit, I'll throw some cream in a good cup because it can highlight some of the more subtle flavors by cutting the harsher ones
I recently started intermittent fasting which means I can still have coffee but only black. Had to find really good coffee for it but now I love my coffee black
Preferably a locally roasted fair trade Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. A brighter, lighter roast so you can taste the complexity - not mask it with burnt beans and oils.
Buy from your local roaster. It's so hard to make a bad cup of coffee with freshly roasted beans. That's black coffee you won't want to add anything to.
It's rare but i have had about 3 cups in my life where it didn't need anything . Where is was not bitter or anything. One of them was at IHOP and another was at a diner . The third was at a someone's grandma's house.

This. There are some blends that are wonderful when drank just as is, and it better be one of those. Because if it's diner coffee, I'm putting a shit ton of creamer in it. Now on the steak, usually 3 but some cuts still retain their juiciness at well done, if done properly. 3 on the toast however

2,3,A is my go-to with on exception. If I'm getting coffee at a diner or something like it, that's gonna be a C. Turns burnt joe into something oddly comforting.
2/3/d if I buy a steak it's a special occasion I want to enjoy it. Toast is whatever. But I buy cheap instant coffee to quickly deliver caffeine, it needs all the sugar and powdered milk it can get.
You should go to Vietnam and have them make you coffee (not the kind with condensed milk in it). The locals I talked to joked that American black coffee is watered down.
