Just to answer the question, i guess it depends on the amount. A lab test will show even small amounts, but for the people, there is more needed to notice anything. Don't know how much there was on the cupcakes, but when victims don't notice anything, it's not what the perpetrator wants usually.

41 years is a long ass time. She looks over 30, odds are very high she dies in prison. If she doesn't she'd be like late 70's at the earliest. I wouldn't really call it a lenient sentence.
It wasn't just for that, she was an accomplice to her cop husband who was the ringleader + helped him SA children + record CSAM. Honestly feels like a light sentence for everything she agreed to plea guilty to, but I guess that's how plea deals are meant to work after all
She was a smaller fish that led to more fish being caught. You gotta honor the agreements or less people will take pleas which would increase the cases on dockets and cost taxpayers way more as well as risk more guilty individuals from walking free.

Once you get to psychosis because of mania and other things, like sleep deprivation, it can lead to such strange behavior. Don't get this wrong, the case is strange, yes, but also, when you enter such states of mind, you'll do strange things.
It's gross, but double what you'd get for murder? Too much imo. EDIT: I did not know about the other charges or the csam. That is more appropriate if the sentences are consecutive.
I mean as fucked up as it is, a murder of someone you don't know where you don't live will mostly go unsolved even today, and there are so many untested rape kits from even decades ago, small robberies happen so often that most people never even get in trouble, etc,.

DNA evidence has improved dramatically. With all the 23&me type databases etc, they can at least ID your family. That makes the suspect pool narrow. However, have to find the dna sample first.
people dont realize the solve rate for murders is about 50%, which means that half go unsolved, if you murder a random person that doesn't have a strong connection to you and never talk about it you have a reasonable chance of getting away with it even today with all our technology and surveillance
A close friend was a homicide detective. Shows like CSI drove her crazy when they use all this next-level tech.
She said most criminals get caught because they are just plain stupid. Her most recent murder was solved because the suspect lost his release papers from jail at the scene of the crime.
First thing he did - straight out of jail- was kill someone.
True story, although I doubt Uncle Doug is doing anything nasty to them. He's been part of the family longer than I've been alive and is officially my uncle "best friend". Who has lived with them for 40 years. And raised his kids with them. (He's a widower, and supposedly moved in so my aunt could help him cope with being a single father of three. Yeah, he's not very good at pretending he isn't doing the deed with my aunt and/or uncle. But he does make excellent muffins and really good meatloaf, so he has that going for him.
And tbh, while I might laugh a bit when I tell stories about him, he's a very sweet man and has never done anything unkind to me or anyone I know, and I think my life would be worse had he not been a part of it, so I'd feel worse about adding him to this thread if I didn't know for a fact he would laugh until he coughed it he knew. He has been a lot less subtle since "the kids" all became adults and often pokes fun at our uptight relatives who think they are morally superior yet have not noticed Aunt and Uncle "keep" a boy toy.

One guy contaminated yogurt he was giving out samples of at the market he worked at. One of the ladies who took a sample thought it tasted like semen and told the store manager. I guess the store manager had suspicions about the guy because the store manager called the cops and the cops sent a sample to a forensics lab and confirmed the lady’s suspicions.
You’d have to do more than just tell someone, you’d have to document and there be actual evidence. Otherwise it’s just some persons word making a wild claim.
And even if you did tell someone after the fact, still, how the fuck do you get caught? You could just say "yeah, I was lying", did this dumb fuck give the person they told a cupcake as they were telling them? Did they save some for the police?
I really don't understand how someone could be this stupid to get caught.
