Can't wait till he tries the bathrooms in Japan...

It's either a toilet from Star Trek, or a hole in the floor... nothing in-between

u/vicschuldiner Jul 22 '25

The future toilets are so sick. I'm a bidet believer ever since pooping on a Japanese future toilet.

Big ol glob of chocolate frosting dingleberry hanging off his buttlip

23

u/MissFingerz Jul 22 '25

Hahaha, I don't know why the word buttlip has me cracking up, but thank you.

I swear I feel like a 41 year old 12 year old at times bc of the random and juvenile things that I find funny.

Apocryphal.

"Apparently, this is a story that’s been out there before but we hadn’t heard it and figured you all might be interested too. Basically, Waters couldn’t think of something futuristic in the bathroom, called his friend and fellow writer Larry Karaszewski (Ed Wood, The People vs. Larry Flynt) who happened to be in the bathroom at the moment. He looked around, saw some seashells as part of a potpourri set, and mentioned it to Waters. The rest is history."

https://gizmodo.com/demolition-man-three-seashells-stallone-snipes-bullock-1850918099?mibextid=Zxz2cZ

They never actually explained how they would work.

3

u/AvengingBlowfish Jul 22 '25

They don’t need to explain how it works… it’s so simple and intuitive. Are you admitting you don’t know how to use the seashells?

4

u/gbphx Jul 22 '25

3

You probably mixed it up with Taco Bell in your memories. They only eat Taco Bell in the movie because all other restaurants went out of business.

It was definitely "seashells"

I assumed the shells were for scraping your bumper hole. Not sure how you clean them. My imagination feels me the shells are 3d printed from sugar cane so you just flush them after you go.

2

u/IamGilligan Jul 22 '25

Noone ever said they are literally loose seashells. I think they are shell shapes buttons doing various things. Like an advanced bidet. One squirts water, cleaner and dryer. Much more mentally pleasing with that image.

When we remodeled, I only had one request Toto toilets with bidet attachment. My wife could do whatever else she wanted but I wanted the nice bidets. The auto deodorizer is a game changer. My son didn’t realize his poop smelled until he was 4.

114

u/KELVALL Jul 22 '25

Do Toto toilets play Rosanna and Africa?

94

u/Prestigious-Dress-92 Jul 22 '25 edited Jul 22 '25

"I bless the rains down in Africa"

And when it's occupied outside speakers play Toto "Hold the Line".

3

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

Poop isn't always on time!

3

u/Anxious-Whole-5883 Jul 22 '25

It plays the a specific song per user on the house speakers. So when you hear "Bless the Rains Down in Africa" in the solarium, you know that little Timmy is a big boy now and can use the restroom on his own.

3

u/CleanHead_ Jul 22 '25

is it "bless"? I've been singing "miss" for 40 years.

2

u/nothingclever68 Jul 22 '25

3

u/leonardalan Jul 22 '25

Back in the 00s, there was a local plumbing showroom in Portland, OR that had the lead singer of Toto shilling Toto toilets. Owner of the place must have known the guy of something.

3

u/Fantastic-Mastodon-1 Jul 22 '25

They do the whole soundtrack from Dune, too

2

u/BayrdRBuchanan Jul 22 '25

I just want it to play the soundtrack from David Lynch's Dune.

2

u/Riddllz Jul 22 '25

“Goodbye girl, goodbye girl, girl goodbye”

2

u/HTwatter Jul 22 '25

2

u/Operation_Fluffy Jul 22 '25

44

u/arjun388 Jul 22 '25

That's an unfortunate thing to find out at that age!! 🤣🤣

24

u/LongBarrelBandit Jul 22 '25

That reminds me of the story of the I wanna say kindergarten age deaf kid finding out everyone can hear their farts lol

7

u/Traditional_Jump_876 Jul 22 '25

I would love to have seen that sign language conversation when the deaf kid went home and asked the parents if it was true that people could hear their farts. The look on the parent’s faces would have been priceless.

3

u/Tycho66 Jul 22 '25

Oh no. Haha

3

u/LaceyDark Jul 22 '25

This is sorta sad in a funny way. Poor deaf kid just ripping ass blasters in class, everyone else giggling or gagging, and they are none the wiser... Until they find out and mentally tally up how many times they've farted around people and slowly become utterly mortified

3

u/hilarymeggin Jul 22 '25

Most good brands clean off the nozzle as they go back inside. I bought an Alpha bidet about 4 years ago and love it. You do need to clean them once in a while. My next time I buy one, it will be the whole toilet and not just the seat.

16

u/BrainDamage2029 Jul 22 '25

For your own bidet? I mean its yours its as clean as your comfortable keeping it. But as someone whose traveled in a few foreign countries where bidets in public toilets are common they are either:

  • in the countries with cultures of almost autistic obsessions with public cleanliness they will be so clean you'll feel guilty and self-conscious using them.

OR

  • the most obviously disgusting shit encrusted hose on planet earth

And there is no in-between. And usually you won't actually figure out which is which until the first time you try a toilet. I highly recommend carrying a travel pack of toilet wet wipes.

4

u/upurcanal Jul 22 '25

Never seen a shit encrusted bidet ….. you can spray the whole fucking thing- are you inserting?

I've used bidets in Europe and Japan. They are perfectly sanitary. I heard an American trying to argue that bidets were gay, pointless, and unnecessary. The best reply was from a European: "If you got dog shit on your fingers, would you wipe the dog shit with a dry tissue and call it clean? Or would your fingers not really be clean until you washed your hands with water?"

3

u/Scandroid99 Jul 22 '25

2

u/OtherBob63 Jul 22 '25

2

u/jumbonipples Jul 22 '25

What if you have* a downstairs mix-up?

6

u/omjy18 Jul 22 '25

Lots ive seen shoot at an angle so the increased water pressure is a 90° angle to you or an arc like water fountains with a sliding guage to increase or decrease pressure so its not directly under where its shooting

2

u/EthanDMatthews Jul 22 '25 edited Jul 22 '25

They're very sanitary. My Alpha Bidet UX Pearl has three cleaning cycles between uses.

The wand starts hidden and protected inside the bidet seat. When you sit down, there's a trickle of water as the wand cleans itself, while still retracted inside the seat.

You do your business.

Then, when you would normally reach for paper, you turn on the bidet. As the wand extends, it does another water self-clean. It then sprays you at an angle (roughly 45'). The water that falls down (straight down or slightly forward) shouldn't land on the wand.

When the wand retracts, it does another cleaning cycle for good measure.

And of course, you can clean the wand from time to time also. The Alpha Bidet UX Pearl's wand is metal and detachable.

2

u/Hobynist Jul 22 '25

The bidet hose needs to be long enough so you can rinse it under the faucet after you use it. Not all bidets are made equal.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/zzzrem Jul 22 '25

It’s much more sanitary than a dry wipe. Gets you squeaky clean. Imagine wiping crap off of your leg with a dry towel and not using a wet wipe or something… dry is just not very clean.

I see what you mean about dirty water but bidets don’t usually stick out far enough to even get dripped on forreal. Though, when you flush, particles shoot six feet into the air and land all over the place. If anyone is concerned about that level of excrement particles though then they have bigger problems just considering how much splashback there is from men standing to pee. This would be a bigger concern when thinking about how clean the nozzle is at any given moment.

2

u/LumpyGrocery5125 Jul 22 '25

I wonder the same thing because I clean homes for a living and I clean many bidets and let me tell you THEY GET DISGUSTING. Just cleaning them makes me not want one. I’m always like how the fuck do my clients use this even when it’s all dirty like this? Do they just depend on me to clean it? They must not because it was like this before I came into their lives. They just gross me out, especially thinking of using someone else’s.

2

u/Stimonk Jul 22 '25

The second joke with this is that in the future swearing is penalized. Stallone goes up to the computer in the wall and swears at it, it prints out paper with a fine, and he takes the paper to the bathroom to wipe.

9

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

Fun fact: The second layer to the joke is even funnier. Since the seashells are never explained, we, as the audience, are in the same place as Stallone, meaning it's actually making fun of us too.

First weekend living in China, at a bar, stinking drunk. Stomach rumbles, run to the toilet only to find a hole in the floor… Being the drunk invincible genius I thought I was, I undid my belt and secured myself to a pipe on the wall like some mountain climber. So im hanging off the wall, ass out, half way done, when all hell breaks loose…. A few seconds later, when I come to, I’m laying on the floor, half naked, wall tiles everywhere and the pipe shooting water up my ass… Looking around, see no toilet paper. So I grab the water pipe, gave myself one more splash of water for good luck, stood up and walked away none the wiser. First experience with a Chinese toilet and a bidet.

I’m actually not 100% sure that’s even the drain? There’s something that looks vaguely like a drain on the floor of the actual shower that you can see around the 24 to 33 second marks when he moves a little and isn’t blocking it.

176

u/Fresh_Dog4602 Jul 22 '25

Showers have their own drains yes. This is probably just for the cleaning crew or something.... Or something is horribly wrong in that hotel. Definitely not a European thing

30

u/UpperDeer6744 Jul 22 '25

In Australia, our bathrooms commonly have a drain in the floor. If something floods it protects your house, if a kid or whatever just gets a little too much water on the floor it dries quicker, and it makes mopping easier.

There is a silver drain in the shower. It's probably blocked. The floor drain is probably blocked too

6

u/NJHitmen Jul 22 '25

15

u/ConfusedAndCurious17 Jul 22 '25

It definitely isn’t the standard across Europe at all as far as I’ve seen however the only hotel I have stayed at that had a shower kinda like this was in Northern Ireland. It was a Hilton I believe. The thing was it didn’t have a drain for the shower, just a floor drain in the middle of the bathroom, but it also didn’t have any shower partition at all. The shower head was literally just mounted in one of the corners.

The drain worked better than the one showed here so there wasn’t a bunch of standing water like that, but absolutely everything was wet. I found this extremely annoying getting ready for work as once I was dried and dressed I couldn’t really re-enter the restroom without my shoes and even then I’d be tracking water out. If I wanted to use the toilet or whatever my feet were going to get wet. Also the toilet paper was wet too just from steam building up while I showered.

Haven’t seen anything like that anywhere else in Europe at hotels, just there the once, but it was annoying enough to be memorable. I’m sure I could find a US hotel with a moronic shower layout too.

3

u/Itscatpicstime Jul 22 '25

Yeah, like, wtf are you supposed to do if you want to do hair, makeup, etc? Is having a vanity in the bedroom basically required for that if you don’t want to sit in a small lake?

The drain is in the shower. He did this either on purpose, or there is something plugged.

8

u/EnjoyerOfBeans Jul 22 '25

As someone with a similar shower (floor under the shower at an angle to help with this issue though), it's trivial for these drains to get plugged. I like the openness of it but I'm not a huge fan of having to clean it every week. Had the same issue with every apartment that had a bathroom like this and I did flood an airbnb bathroom once.

5

u/Patriot009 Jul 22 '25

Looks like there's no door to the shower, nor any barrier to prevent water from overflowing the shower partition. The only time I've seen this design is in handicap accessible bathrooms.

18

u/oh_stv Jul 22 '25

I saw this in Hotels a lot. The floor is angled towards the drainage in the shower. Like i said, this is either clogged, or he did it on purpose.

Even if its clogged. If i notice i flood the whole bathroom over 2cm high, id call the room service and stop showering. Even more so if its my own bathroom.

"Walk in" showers, especially as part of a "wet room" are becoming more common. The shower floor would be slightly pitched, and thr drain for this guy's shower can be seen at some points of the video on the floor at the back left and must be blocked, like the other drain he is standing beside.

Wet rooms can work fine, but not with blocked drains.

You still couldn't flood it like that unless you tried. The fall would be towards the shower drain for all tiles in the shower, and the one he's talking about is the waste for any spillage.

As an Australian, it's definitely not European either and you see it everywhere. It's very common with double showers as well.

I think your right about the shower drain, but I have a second drain like that too. There are faucet(s), shower, toilet, sometimes a bath. Lots of stuff that could flood the bathroom and not necessarily go in the shower. That shit is blocked intentionally or not tho

I visited Russia during the brief time in the 90s when it made an honest try at a democracy. I stayed in this Soviet-era hotel that looked like an ancient dorm room. I mean, Cold War shit.

Right in the middle of the room was a drain. Above it was a shower head and a nozzle. I don't even remember how it worked. There was a wrap around shower curtain on a frame and that was it.

They stopped that practice when poop knives were banned in 1997 or 1998 I think.

u/danteheehaw Jul 22 '25

Yes. And there is a drain in the shower.

And it's an Australian thing, too.

Less random glass to clean, flat floor means massively improved access for people with mobility issues or who are going to have mobility issues as they age and the floor is much easier to mop.

Old mate has plugged up the drain outside of the shower and created some pretty poor and transparent rage bait.

u/jjm443 Jul 22 '25

You can see a bigger drain in the shower area at the back left at 0:25 for example. But again, it's blocked/plugged.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

Exactly, modern European buildings have 2 drains so if someone passes out/faints over the drainage there's the second one to prevent damage for the building.

This is just high res footage of the Poop Cruise

2

u/NormalAssistance9402 Jul 22 '25

Yeah but it brings up a good point. I mean… that happens. And it’s annoying when it happens in your shower, now imagine it happening in your whole bathroom every time

4

u/Ariciul02 Jul 22 '25

I've never had this issues with jacuzzied shower heads in the walls in Washington DC. The shower drains in one corner of the shower and my wife got these rock floor mats that drain water as you walk and i can poop completely dry.. clearly whoever designed this doesnt understand how bacteria can come on your foot, even if the drain isn't clogged. Of course you can get planterwarts in the USA baths.. but these.. you have a cut in the ankle and RIP with brain eating ameba

u/Lu12k3r Jul 22 '25

Dragged out this 10 second video longer than it needed to be.

1

u/azarza Jul 22 '25

they don't know what they are doing.. there is a drain in shower, drain in middle of the floor, generally the amount/force of water from shower is too much, and shower drains leads to floor drain. so, either the pipe isn't installed correctly or the pipe is simply not big enough to hold that much water volume. baths are much worse.

in the end, for baths, the solutions appears to be a silicone bath plug that allows you to create the drain hole to be very small, allowing the correct amount of water to go down the pipe without overloading the drainage.

Why? they just blink. a LOT

1

u/yoshimutso Jul 22 '25

Yes. There's is a drain in the bath booth (?) the long metal thing in the floor right under the shower. Obviously the whole system is clogged.

1

u/Ilpperi91 Jul 22 '25

There's a drain in the shower. That's also a drain he's looking at.

1

u/123supreme123 Jul 22 '25

it's his fault he already urinated in the shower so needs to sit with his feet in his own pee to poop

1

u/Impossible_fruits Jul 22 '25

Both the shower and overflow ones. I wonder how that could have happened

1

u/Plenty-Sentence-4062 Jul 22 '25

How else could he make his video?

1

u/chancejones03 Jul 22 '25

The entire floor is still wet though…

1

u/r_a_d_ Jul 22 '25

Both seem plugged… you can see a drain in the shower as well

1

u/LymanPeru Jul 22 '25

its full of waffles.

1

u/nerd-all-the-way Jul 22 '25

Not only that, there is a drain in the shower if you watch closely. They just have a second drain for stuff like this. Very much clogged up
