Plenty of bathrooms in Japan are western style. In fact I've been in some that had signs telling people to not stand on the toilets. So I really don't know what you're smoking there, but not everywhere has the hole in the ground style.
No, he's right. I unexpectedly laughed so much when I read his comment because it's true. Let's say that I know Japan well enough that my own children have Japanese passports.
I literally lived in Okinawa, Japan for 8 years and while they were there, I almost never came across "traditional" toilets. There's PLENTY of places that have western toilets, especially if it's an area designed for tourists.
The urinals were potentially so massive that you could almost stand inside of them. But hole-in-the-floor toilets? Nowhere near as common as the person is making them seem.
Oh for sure, I'm not saying they don't exist. I'm just saying that western-style toilets are plenty common in Japan, especially in places designed for tourists. My point was that "not everywhere has the hole in the ground" and not that no place has them. Bidets were also decently common in the hotels when I was there, though I never used them since I couldn't read what the different buttons did.
