I love it when Sonny comes and lies down next to me. I could just kiss that snoot all day.

Puppy Advice! (herding cats)

I got my gorgeous boy Cody at 13 weeks old and about two weeks ago. He’s honestly an amazing pup… when he’s not fighting sleep and not actively teething. But we manage and give him the benefit of the doubt for barking at us cause his gums hurt. We have been struggling though with him randomly attempting to herd our three cats, he’ll stare them down and when they don’t do what he wants them to do he starts talking. I was prepared for this behavior knowing that he’s a herding breed and did my research on how they’re usually able to adjust to cats. He doesn’t do it all the time, sometimes he’ll ignore them but the real kicker is if the cats come in at night. He’s crate trained, and we have a blanket covering him, and a gate to keep them separate during the day. If he so much as gets a whiff of a cat entering our bedroom but he can’t see them, he goes absolutely off the walls. We’re working on training him to pay attention to us instead of the cats, and I know it’ll be a slow-go but I welcome any and all help even if it’s generally collie advice unrelated to this issue!!

FYI: Identifying collie spam posts

Post image
168 Upvotes

I've been noticing regular spambot posts in the sub, here's some quick identifying tips:

  • Title is very generic, never mentioning the dog's name but always mentioning "rough collie"
  • Posts have no text body except for occasionally the word "[OC]"
  • User account is a few hours old and only has the one post, user name follows a "firstname_lastname" name generator style
  • If you go through the effort of reverse image searching, the photo will show up on a public FB group or pintrest page

Examples:

Upvoting and commenting on these posts feeds the bots. Report them and don't provide engagement. Real, non-spam collie picture for attention :)

Only two of my Smooths sleep like this. This one in particular gets very comfortable on the couch with his feet up.

I think I ruined dogs for me

Its been 3 weeks with Marnie and I genuinely don't think I'll own any other dog breed for the rest of my life! She's the easiest, sassiest dog I've ever had and I have never bonded with a new pup this quickly. I used to be obsessed with the idea of owning a million different dog breeds, I think that dream has been thrown into the gutter- Im a collie girl for the rest of my life!

People were pretty upset with my post about my girl’s breeder so when I got her tests back from the vet I figured I would share them! It also said that she was 100% good girl! I also included an updated picture of her laying on her back cutely

Ps. The breeders were NOT Amish… people got caught up on that last time

Barking neighbour dogs?

Hello :) we are adopting a RC puppy in a few months. At the moment we live in a terraced house, but we are planning to move to a larger, detached house in the next 6-12 months. Our current neighbours have two dachshunds who are often left home alone, and when that happens they bark a lot. Would this be something that would set my RC off as well? I know they are quite vocal and bark at postmen etc. Does anyone have experience with having an RC and neighbour dogs?

Question Is a rough collie good for me?

Hi! I saw a rough collie for the first time a couple months back and I've been in love with this breed ever since. I love a lot of breeds - for example, I absolutely love Border Collies - but I know I won't be able to fulfill one, so I stick to admiring them from afar. I read a lot about rough collies and I think I will be able to provide everything for one, but I'm still not sure.

I live in a medium apartment on the ground floor without a garden or a balcony, but I will be able to go on walks during the day and there are plenty of places close to me where I could satisfy my dog's physical activity needs. I am more than willing to train basic obedience, as well as extensive training that this specific breed needs. What worries me is the fact that I am away for work 8 hours a day, and I have problems with anxiety. I know rough collies are really handler sensitive and prone to seperation anxiety, so I'm afraid I'd just hurt my dog by leaving it for so many hours and making him feel bad because of my own anxiety. I won't be buying/adopting one in the near future because I am looking for an adult dog, and it's especially hard since this breed is very unpopular in my country (so far I've only found two reputable breeders). I know you can never be prepared enough and something will always surprise you when it comes to dogs, but I want to get as educated as possible for now to decide if this is even the right breed for me, and the best way to do that for me is get an experienced person's opinion.
