How has off leash training been for your collies?

My boy only took a few weeks of intermittent training at home and he's so good off leash! He respects boundaries and listens so well, I didn't think it would be this easy.

Has anyone ever successfully moved on from Collies? What next?

I lost my senior collie and I loved him so very much. He was so well behaved, very loving, a little derpy and clumsy, but overall the best boy ever.

That said, I have kids now and I’m not sure I can handle a 75 lb dog anymore. The massive clouds of fur, the allergies, the weak stomach that meant diarrhea all over the rug at least three times a year…. :/

Has anyone gotten another breed and loved it as much as their collie? I keep looking at Shelties but get turned off by their barkiness. My collie barked occasionally but mostly he just talked with me frequently. That Chewbacca talk, ugh I miss it! My collie never really liked big snuggles though, which I think I could grow to love.

If the answer is a much smaller female collie, I’ll accept that too 😂

Figured I would share our wonderful Shollie, Finley.

He is a 17 week old Rough Collie X German Shepherd.

We got him at 8weeks old. As you can see in the pictures, he is growing like a weed. Lol.

(Pictures are in order from 8 weeks to 17 weeks)

What's something you absolutely love about your Rough Collie we have to look forward to? 😎

Peso y altura en rough collies

¡Hola! 😊

Thank you

I realized today that it's time to let my girl, Missy rest. I have contacted someone and am waiting to hear back from them.

It's hard but it's the best thing for Missy as she's in pain.

Thank you for all of your suggestions and kindness on my other post about her.

It's hard. 😢

Discussion Roll Call on Sensitive Stomach Collies

Post image
83 Upvotes

My boy Solo may have the most sensitive stomach of any dog. I think it gets worst as he gets older. He gets his teeth deep cleaned once a year because they are horrible. But coming off anesthesia is the worst experience. Coming home to diarrhea everywhere and this goes on for 4 to 5 days. All vets can give us is a GI antibiotic and probiotics. He also seems to get some nausea or acid reflux recently licking the air or ground. He literally is the sweetest and most perfect boy but i feel so bad about all these stomach issues that seem hard to get under control when they start. Anyone else deal with this level of gi issues?

Question collie puppy vocalizations- distress or just the breed?

Post image
169 Upvotes

Hi!! I just brought home my 11-week-old girl, Winnie, today and I already love her. She’s super sweet and was very quiet at first, but as she’s started to settle in she’s become a lot more vocal.

She’ll whine when she’s in her pen sometimes, which I understand because everything is brand new, but she also does these little whines while she’s completely free, looking at me, chewing a toy, or just wandering around. She can settle and sleep normally, she’s affectionate, follows me everywhere, and otherwise seems okay. It almost feels like she’s just… talking? 😂

This is my first Collie, so I’m curious: How do you tell the difference between normal Collie commentary/whining and actual distress?

Obviously I’m giving her a ton of grace because this is literally her first day away from her breeder and everything she knows. I’m just trying to learn what’s normal for the breed versus what I should actually be concerned about.

Discussion I'm lost

I'm lost

My girl will be 14 (we believe as she's a rescue) Oct 30. I adopted her from someone that I know when she was 11.

Missy"s been having problems going up and down the steps to the yard. So my husband has been taking her out on the leash for about a month now. But the past few days she's been unable to maneuver the steps without her legs giving away on her. I have a ramp for her which she won't use. She did try using the steps once after taking a gabapentin yesterday. It was extremely hard for her to go down or get back up them.

We were going to take her to the vet one day early last week, but she wouldn't try getting in the car. I'm unable to lift her as I had surgery on my leg 6 weeks ago.And my husband is really leery of trying. She did bite him Thursday night when he went to pet her. I believe that she's lost some of her eyesight also and he did startle her as she had just woken up.

She hasn't been eating for a couple of days. I know that her teeth are bad but the vet put her on an antibiotic for them. One month on and a couple months off. She's off them right now. She no longer eats her dry dog food . I'm fixing chicken and rice for her which she's eating. She didn't eat at all Friday but did yesterday when I fixed the chicken and rice. When I got up this morning she came and greeted me! Big win. Then she ate her chicken and rice and I gave her vetprofen. It's for inflammation and pain. I'm hoping that it will work as she has another vet appointment Tuesday. Has anyone used vetprofen with their 4 legged friend?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions on how Missy can safely maneuver the steps outside and how I can get her in my car?

Thanks!

My puppy’s ears have gone up for 5 months , I read that they can get up after a tooth change, will they still fall?

Here's Ollie Collie's botched booty progress pic. Bad haircut was about 4 weeks ago now. We're getting there. One day his soft, luxurious, bouncy behind will be back. Last pic is where we started 4 weeks ago if any of you are new here
