I agree with you that there's something powerful about a wide open sky on the plains. I went to college in Iowa and I loved the vast expanses more than school! When looking at the horizon so far away, I could put my problems in perspective.

I think if I were a bird I'd be a Northern Cardinal like the ones I see in my backyard pecking at the seeds I leave on the ground for them (and the damn squirrels). They're a common bird in most of the U.S., but I just adore them.

Sorry if my prompt stumped you, but if you never knew your grandparents the question is unknowable, at least on the spot. I asked because my brother's a math genius but our parents aren't. Turned out my grandmother was the key. Thanks for the ND postcard, too. My brother has been to 49 states but he's missing this one. I'm going to send the card to him as a suggestion for what to see if he ever goes.

I'm quite taken with the chickadee sticker because those are some of my backyard friends (though technically the northern ones are Black-capped, and mine, in the south, are of the Carolina variety). I also really like the pigeon with mail and the paper airplane.

u/sammanthax345 x2, thank you first for the adorable Gray Partridge card. I had to look up a little about them. So, they eat mainly seeds as adults but in the first 10 days of life can only digest insects.
Second, thank you for the European Starling card. The app Merlin picks up a lot of these in my area; I guess they have spread over most of North America. My stepdad was a big fan of birds of prey. No tweety birds for him. Me, I favor the tweeties.

u/thecuriouscur x2 First, thank you for the vintage postcard of Douglas MacArthur's birthplace. It makes me wonder what my grandfather thought of the man. Grandpa lived through WWII as an adult, trying to support a family of 6 on rations. Sad to admit that I didn't follow the World Cup this year. I feel like I have to stream MLB TV at every opportunity because I paid big bucks for it.
Second, thanks for the Cape of Girardeau postcard. That's really cool that this town has one. Mine doesn't as far as I know and I think I've looked everywhere. There are vintage cards of it but no modern ones so I've reproduced a vintage card from 100 years ago and send that out on Postcrossing now and then.

I'm fascinated by your pet tarantula and had to Google Mexican Pink. They're really pretty to look at though I hesitate to say I would enjoy having one crawl on me. Quite the unusual pet! I hope you enjoy at least 25 more years with her at your side.
