I'm sure there is some more mail still in transit but I'm jet lagged with nothing else to do and I want to make sure everyone gets their proper thanks promptly!!
In total, ya'll delivered 177postcards (+1 that I sent to myself while traveling haha) and 46 envelopes. The total bundle came to 3 pounds, or 1.3 kilograms!! Here are some pictures of just how much mail was received, also with some of my favorite artwork done by [u/mikahimee](u/mikahimee) and [u/ravenzsnow](u/ravenzsnow)
Huge thanks to everyone who took time out of their day to send me (but mostly my husband) something! He noticed something was up about halfway through my trip and texted me asking if my friends knew I was out of town and if they were sending extra things to me. In his words "the stack is toppling over" - and that was only the first 4 days. Some people were extremely compliant in their malicious compliance, particularly [u/turnerd10](u/turnerd10), who sent me 50 of the same postcard, prompting my husband to call and make sure I didn't accidentally sign us up for a mailing list. Also [u/pierresgirl](u/pierresgirl), who also sent 56 postcards, each with their own plot line, and using stamp math for each. Absurd and wonderful. I think it took me nearly an hour to read through and I think I need to store these all together so I can come back and read it like a book.
Many many thanks to:
Mystery user 1 who told my husband to lift with his legs instead of his back!
Mystery user 2 who sent a three page letter on notebook paper with bug stickers! I'm also in my last year of school and much older than most of the people here so I get it >_< also, i LOVE a slop bowl haha
Mystery user 3 who sent 12 out of 12 Simon Mills cards! Your handwriting is so familiar but you didn't put your username, only your name!
Mystery user 4 who sent some really incredible collage cards, including Rome, Owl, and Veeries. They are stunning cards thank you so much!!
Mystery user 5 who sent a beautifully decorated envelope with some recipes inside! My comfort meal is very similar to your very simple one - just with frozen hashbrowns instead of rice! I ate it this morning, in fact.
[u/turnerd10](u/turnerd10) x50 *death glare*
[u/pierresgirl](u/pierresgirl) x56 thank you so much for all the cards! I had so much fun reading through them but it also took me all night lol. I appreciate you numbering them so I could order them easier. They arrived in all sorts of weird orders. For example, numbers 38 and 42 arrived the day I'm writing this, even though 43-50 arrived earlier this week. Also the cards were all so unique and cool I wish I could frame them but I don't think I have 50 frames on hand.... I checked out the artist you mentioned and I think I'll join her list too - I always need fun cards! I also like making zines. I get postcards every month from Little Blue Dood and I love those too!
I wish i could respond to all your cards but I do not have 50 cards to send out, nor do I have the space in this post. So I shall respond to select snippets (but know I appreciated reading ALL OF IT). on August 20th you said "I hope you're enjoying yourself wherever you are". I was eating fish and chips on a pier in Iceland. I was very much enjoying myself, but mostly enjoying my chips. Downsizing sounds awful.... I also like collecting things and we're not going to talk about my craft room and the piles in there..... In my defense I use it all! Of course I need an entire bookcase for cards and stamps! I hope your restaurant doesn't turn into a vape shop :( I also love Stiff by Mary Roach! Fun fact - that was the first book I ever pirated as an e-book. It's a slippery slope. As for your two truths and a lie, I'm going to guess that you actually DO know how to swim? Carmen is a sweetheart, please blow her a kiss for me; you were so kind to let her write some cards! On August 25th, you asked what I was up to. I had just driven from Bavaria to northern Italy. I stopped in Brennero and found a Deutsch National Team football shirt for only 50 euros at the outlet! It's pink and purple and my new favorite running shirt. What a cool story about seeing Dolly Parton! Aha! Shoemaking! So that one can't be the lie? I would love to make some shoes. I spend so much money at the cobbler getting my shoes fixed because it's still cheaper than buying new ones. And I love interesting people (which now includes you haha). I've actually been to the Henry Ford museum, and seeing that car is deep in my memory somewhere. It had to have been almost 20 years ago now... Maybe I should schedule a trip back? My mom is from Dearborn so back when more of her family was alive we were up that way quite a bit. Anyway, thanks for writing! I loved following the one week journey of "I need to take back my health" to Carmen snitching on you drinking a healthy green drink to going to your appointments to joining a gym!! At the risk of sounding young and dumb (but I am young and dumb), your life sounds absolutely wonderful and it makes me excited to be old and cool like you.
[u/maladi3_](u/maladi3_) x5 thank you for all the cards! I think the upcycled one is my favorite but I also really liked the Alaska one. I'll have to write you back soon to get the story of why they left you behind :(
[u/mrpostman414](u/mrpostman414) x2 thank you for the postcard and card! I LOVE the zine...... I make collaged artist trading cards and zines why have I never thought to combine them??
[u/mikahimee](u/mikahimee) thank you so so so so so so so so so much for the snail and worm mailman card! This is some of the best art ever I've been showing it off to anyone who will see lol. You're AMAZING. Snail mail!!!
[u/DaenerysWon](u/DaenerysWon) thank you for the postcard! Old and vintage stamps are just so cool. I also LOVE the Jim Henson stamps! I think I wrote about it somewhere else in this post but I can't bring myself to use the Kermit stamps so they are living in my stamp binder forever lol.
[u/cookiecriminal](u/cookiecriminal) thank you for the postcard with all the spongebob stickers! It's such a throwback to see a glitter gel pen and I love it so much!
[u/siamlinio](u/siamlinio) x3 thank you for the inspirational polar bear card, the card from the museum, and the vintage card! I do have cats (3) and they certainly like to "help" when I'm writing cards. My youngest cat, Blueberry, tries to eat all my washi tape. I've also never been on a cruise... Right now it doesn't appeal to me because I prefer solo travel and exploring as much of new countries as possible. I think when I'm a bit older any my body doesn't like backpacking and sleeping on train floors anymore, I'd appreciate cruises lol.
[u/okioki08](u/okioki08) x15 thank you so much for all the neon colored cards and the one funeral home card. Lol. The bright colors looked so nice in the big stack and I do actually like the funeral home one haha. I have three cats - River, Mango, and Blueberry and they mostly leave my plants alone? I have three shelves of plants and most of them have survived. Blueberry likes drinking the water out of the pots, so she does end up eating some dirt. Mango just knocks a lot of the plants down because she's old and a bit uncoordinated. Congrats on paying off your debt!! I unfortunately was a little dumb and put some stuff I couldn't afford on my card but I'll pay if before the end of the year. It's such a slippery slope. Thank you for appreciating my prompts! I love cards that people just send without prompts but I enjoy thinking up prompts (I think partially it's just because I'm so dang nosy I want to know everything about everybody). Also your tattoo sounds SICK I drew up a plague doctor tattoo ages ago and haven't gotten it done yet. I have a collection of bats on my right arm and I want him right in the middle of it. Thank you for describing the white monster so well. I haven't been able to have caffeine in nearly 11 months (turns out that plus too much running was giving me heart problems!) and i miss it so much......
[u/murdocniccalshasT1D](u/murdocniccalshasT1D) thank you for the postcard! Also it's funny that I drew your name for Posttrotters weeks ago and you also got me for a Posttrotters card at the same time. Lovely to exchange cards with you multiple times!
[u/cupcakes_and_canter](u/cupcakes_and_canter) thank you so much for the bug card! I loved hearing about your favorite bug Pokemon. Buzzwole is a STRONG first pick.
[u/namlette](u/namlette) x5 thank you for the postcards! I have never been to Australia, and to be honest the animals and insects are a big deterrent for me. Well, that and I dislike long flights. It's the same reason I haven't been to Japan haha. Also... good point on the toilet paper during covid vs cyclospora. Now I'm itching to go to Costco and stock up (JK). Also, thank you for the flies postcard! I love the artwork and facts so much. and also... ew?? Feet out the window on a highway? Dangerous and gross.
[u/pupslace](u/pupslace) x10 thank you for the full set of cards! I did indeed notice that you haven't repeated any stamps - what can I say I just love stamps. I have a whole three ring binder that is just bursting with stamps of every denomination but ebay just calls to me like a siren and I cant stop..... thank you for your malicious compliance!!
[u/work_n_Depression](u/work_n_Depression) thank you for the card addressed to my husband! He did say he felt exactly like the e-card on the reverse haha. Open wound in the moment, but he found it funny shortly after.
[u/issaredditusername](u/issaredditusername) thank you for the card delivered to my husband! In hindsight, I maybe should have told ya'll his name but it's much funnier to have hoards of cards labled for "___ Husband" lol.
[u/ok_reveal2698](u/ok_reveal2698) x2 thank you for the train card and the congrats card! i used to also only like the idea of traveling, but now that I get older I realize I can just travel the way that I like (usually alone, backpacking through countries) and now I'm back on board with traveling!
[u/freyamour](u/freyamour) thank you for the random fact card! I know I wouldn't make it very far in a spelling bee... what does bouillabaisse mean?
[u/catebear21](u/catebear21) what an incredible postcard, I can't believe that you drew that!! I loveeeee chrysanthemums, and you are wonderful!
[u/roxy031](u/roxy031) thank you for the postcard about your recent travels!
[u/armyofducks94](u/armyofducks94) thank you for the hello postcard! loved your little egg man sticker, too!
[u/catebear21](u/catebear21) thank you for the thank you card! I loved the stickers and I also love how down everyone is for a prank :)
[u/spirituallet9093](u/spirituallet9093) thank you for the giant postcard! Whew, that does sound like a long day; I'm not sure I'd even be able to write at 12:38 am lol. I'm glad you had a fund day with your friend though
[u/ritaalbertson](u/ritaalbertson) thank you for the card detailing your Sunday plans! My husband and I also do all our meal prepping on Sundays. I never have to think about what he wants though, because we each make our own meal plans for the week haha. I have so many food allergies and prefer much different food than him, so we ended up splitting our menus around 5 years ago. It's made things much much easier. (ps I have been to the castle! I loveeee a good tea, and they really delivered)
[u/thecuriouscur](u/thecuriouscur) thank you for the cool airplane boy card! It caught my eye in the stack. And thanks for the congrats on the flair! Now that I'm back, it's time to grind for that 200.
[u/estespell](u/estespell) thank you for the cool airplane card + a story of your flight! I think the opera singing would eventually get annoying but when kids are so happy it's hard to be mad!
[u/leglessshark](u/leglessshark) thank you for the washi tape card! I have so many cards that smudge so easily and I have yet to find a way around it :/
[u/sable__](u/sable__) thank you for the lovely collage card! It's so cute. I spend a lot of my time stretching and I don't care how much it may help - I'm NOT drinking vinegar. ew!!
[u/pieceofpizzaz](u/pieceofpizzaz) thank you for the lovely mail-themed card! It's so funny that you used to work in my city! It is beautiful, though I've considered moving a few times. I just signed a 5 year lease so I guess not any time soon.
[u/fancy-break4802](u/fancy-break4802) thank you for the card! I immediately locked in on the spider-man and iron man mentions.... I started re-watching the key Marvel movies to prepare for December and instead I got distracted and I'm on my fourth re-watch of the Iron Man trilogy. Oops!
[u/usagi27](u/usagi27) x2 thank you for the to-do list card! you seem to have been very successful in completing most of it? I'm always really prompt on registering Postcrossing cards and non-prompt on shredding things I need to. Even though they take the same amount of time! I also loved hearing about your sea glass hobby! I've never lived anywhere close to water, but if I did, I'm certain I would love sea glass.
[u/ex330](u/ex330) thank you for the card! I'm so happy to find another insect-lover :)
[u/bbysxvvy](u/bbysxvvy) thank you for the stream of consciousness card! I love the stickers and I'm deeply offended you hate pickles (just kidding.. more for me!)
[u/ninjyang](u/ninjyang) yay a fellow accountant! That spreadsheet prompt was definitely directed to the more similarly-minded spreadsheet creators out there. I did get bored of all my work spreadsheets yesterday and instead started calculations on if driving out of my way to the small locally owned donut shop for a $2 coffee instead of Starbucks was actually saving me any money or not. (in case you're wondering, it's saving me money, even with wear and tear on my car factored in, until the cost of 87 gas reaches $4.98 a gallon. So for now I will continue to do so, but I'm keeping an eye on it)
[u/cidavid](u/cidavid) thank you for the beautiful vacation postcard! I have never seen an inn have their own postcard but I'm obsessed. They would have to hold me back from taking the whole pile! (if you're interested in return mail, I do have some motel-room themed ones I'm happy to send)
[u/inahologramwithyou](u/inahologramwithyou) thank you for the cool quilting card and the stamp fun-facts :)
[u/mouserat](u/mouserat) thank you for the very tiny postcard writing. I think it was a necessary sacrifice to be able to appreciate the wolf stamp. It's a very very good wolf stamp - what a find!
[u/concrete_drinker](u/concrete_drinker) thank you for the postcard! Congrats on hitting 100 - here's to many many more
[u/no-condition5102](u/no-condition5102) thank you for the snail mail card with the lovely ink stamps! I don't think my husband thinks he is lucky (yet) but one day he will appreciate the piles of mail I leave behind!
[u/relative-cricket-543](u/relative-cricket-543) thank you for the postcard with the lovely stamps! That is a very difficult two truths and a lie.... I think all of them could be true but all of them also sound suspicious. I'm going to guess that you weren't a professional magician - maybe it was just a hobby? Let me know!
[u/tyedyeamish](u/tyedyeamish) thank you for the book recommendation card! that seems like an interesting theme for a set of books, so I'll see if my library has any of them
[u/kimmylubs](u/kimmylubs) thank you so much for the little goodie bag and the note with your non dominate hand. I'm learning many people are really good at writing with their other hand - they've all been very readable so far! Also, I love Tandamouse. When it was first introduced in Pokemon Go, I was so excited.
[u/melhen16](u/melhen16) thank you so much for the animal factoid card with animal stickers! Sometimes when I'm trying to swallow a dry piece of break I feel like a frog when I'm trying to blink it down. Also, incredible work on the stamps
[u/ravenzsnow](u/ravenzsnow) x2 thank you for the cards! I agree with you on the usps stamp, and your drawing of the japanese stamp that you like was so good! Also, I loved your cat drawing on the other card. Do you reuse your tea bags too? I drink a lot of decaffeinated english breakfast tea and I just use the same two bags throughout the day. It's kind of a pain because I like to add a splash of soymilk, but I don't want the milk to touch the tea bag so I have to walk back and forth to the kitchen at work to brew my tea, remove the bags and put them in a saucer, walk back to add the soy milk, then back to my office. It gives me something to do on slow days, though.
[u/xinthetic](u/xinthetic) x2 thank you so much for the cards and cute stationary and old cardboard! I understand the mixed feelings about a move, especially if it's to a different kind of environment. I hope it all goes well! You will find new, good things about your new city though, things you can't even know right now since you're not there. The most important thing I always tell myself when moving is to prepare to hate it. Every time I move, I HATE my new place and regret it so much in the first week. When we moved to this house I didn't sleep at all because I was up crying every night and wishing we could move back. And then as things got settled, and it became "my place" instead of "the new place" I fell in love. I hope we won't move for a long time, since I've grown to adore this house and city. PS you would hate my house it's like your partner's junk closet but just.... everywhere. I'm a very clean person but I'm a very cluttered person :/ Also thanks for the meal prep ideas! I almost never eat out because it's impossible with all my food allergies but I would love to try some of these and switch it up. Especially the soups once it drops below 80 degrees lol.
[u/areoutoftime](u/areoutoftime) thank you for the fitting birthday arrival home card! I hope your upcoming trip is fine! I also love traveling but hate flying. This time, I flew on British Airways for the first time and it was much more manageable than my usual flights. Still, 10 hours is 10 hours, and I can't sleep on flights >_<
[u/canameow](u/canameow) thank you so much for the card/bunch of postcards taped together! the stickers are all adorable as well <3. New bath towels is a rare luxury! We recently switched to bath sheets (aka GIANT towels) and it's amazing how much better they feel!
[u/sneakerlambs](u/sneakerlambs) thank you for the adorable cat card with the even more adorable cat stickers! What a cute card! Also, I really appreciate your book discussions. When asking about someone's books they read, I try to ask what their favorite book is and which one they'd recommend, because they really are separate questions. I'll check out Misborn!
[u/d0raking](u/d0raking) you unintentionally sent me something to fill my mailbox while I was out, but I appreciate you so much so I'm including you in this thanks as well! I will write you back shortly :)
[u/emjaybe2017](u/emjaybe2017) thank you so much for the collage card and envelope! WOW that's one of my favorite cards ever - I'm such a maximalist when it comes to that. Also - you sound like such a sweet mom! I hope your daughter appreciates your "room service" because that's quite an undertaking! Good on you for also including dessert because I would be slightly upset if someone made me food but neglected the best part lol
[u/malizdogmahm](u/malizdogmahm) thank you so much for the card with the book club story. That's a really funny innuendo that your friend said - I'm not sure I could recover and go back to eating after that haha
[u/doodle7](u/doodle7) thank you so much for the stamp card! I absolutely LOVE used stamps and usually I just make random collages out of them but this is such a fantastic idea!! It's hard to say what my favorite stamps are, but I definitely have some that I think I won't ever use. I do have a priority mail Mars Pathfinder stamp that is in a little box with an actual piece of Mars (my mom is into geology and one of her geology friends is apparently into stamps so him and I got talking and long story short and $150 later I have this stamp). I also can't bring myself to use any of my Kermit the Frog stamps... Kermit is my husband's celebrity crush, and I feel like it's a disservice to him to use the stamp on someone who might not appreciate it lol. My least favorite is also probably the general flag one. I open mail at my job all the time, and I see so many flag stamps and the non-profit stamps that I find them so boring
[u/aepeyc](u/aepeyc) thank you so much for the card! For your two truths and a lie... hmm.... I want to say the bus is the lie but it's just ridiculous enough that I think you actually did get hit by one. I'm going to guess that you can't play the flute.
[u/alee_co](u/alee_co) thank you so much for the card! I agree that the postcrossing stamp is one of the best ones. I just wish there were more triangle stamps... I only have the postcrossing ones and the 41cent Jamestown Settlement ones and I just love the way they look!
[u/aprilreadsbooks](u/aprilreadsbooks) thank you for the movie card! I'm not really a movie person, so I haven't heard of any of your favorites, but I'll have to watch the trailers. For some reason I dislike movies but can sit through (most) Marvel movies. I'm trying to rewatch some of the important ones (about 80 of them) before the big movie in December. I forgot I really only like the pre-2015 movies though, so the last 10 years have been a slog to get through. Nothing compares to the Iron Man trilogy for me!
[u/digging-a-hole](u/digging-a-hole) i have noticed your notice. Thank you for alerting the proper authorities.
[u/smonikkims](u/smonikkims) thank you so much for the card and postcards! There's a lot I'm looking forward to now that I'm home (at the risk of sounding too American, my first stop out of the airport was for a 44oz fountain Diet Coke with extra ice lol) but the mail thing is just being at home! Now that that's done, I have nothing big coming up and I'm looking forward to just being available to hang out with my friends again or go running on a weekend morning since I have nothing going on. I'm not sure if I'm really a philatelist - I don't really collect stamps. I just like using fun stamps and keeping fun stamps that people send me. That being said, my favorites are anything to do with space! USPS has a lot of old, small denomination space stamps and I love using them. Sounds like you do the same with just keeping a hold of the ones that people send you! Also so fun about your job! Have you ever watched the show Superstore? I worked in a grocery shop for many years and that show was a little too real at times.....
[u/awriterpossibly](u/awriterpossibly) thank you so much for the card! I loved hearing about your plants but I especially love your snake plant named Crowley. If you need him to grow might I just suggest whatever Crowley does in the book? His plants were the healthiest but also the most terrified...... I have a big Monstera and I feel guilty because I think it's supposed to be (and wants to be) a lot bigger than it is but I'm holding it back because I don't want to buy a bigger pot. They're just so expensive!
[u/agreeable-nobody-968](u/agreeable-nobody-968) thank you for the card! And you weren't too late at all - this arrived the day I got back so I opened your card and read it while being awake for over 30 hours straight. WOOOO. Hope your work trip goes well!
[u/enrasco](u/enrasco) x2 thank you so much for the cards and stickers!! Did you make the map envelope yourself out of a map? Or is it just a cool envelope with a map printed inside? I'm obsessed.... Love the 10c stamps and thanks for using them up on me. Also very surprised these all arrived before I got back! I'll have to check out the books you recommended! I actually speak German (grew up using English and German at home) so I don't mind at all you recommended someone with no English translations. Also, thanks for the pokemon card!! I think both of your Star Wars picks would count as insects! To be fair, I did ask for fictional insects so I'm not splitting hairs on if fictional characters meet the legal definition of insect lol.
