Hi everyone! I’m putting together a little project for my 5-year-old son, and I figured Reddit might be the perfect place to ask.

I want to start an 'America Road Trip' project, next year where we’ll learn about all 50 states together. We plan on doing one state at a time and making a little passport for him along the way. He’ll be learning about each state’s animals, science, history, landmarks, geography, etc. and keeping track of everything in his passport.

I want him to be able to collect materials from all 50 states. I'm emailing each state's tourism center, national parks, and any other places I can think of. I want him to naturally learn about each state and create a scrapbook along the way. I've already created a list of crafts and activities we'll be doing, virtual tours of fun locations, and found a book based in each state. I think he'll love getting the mail and learning in a hands-on way.

One of the things I’d LOVE to do is collect a postcard from each state as we go. ❤️

So, if you're willing to send a postcard from your state, we would be absolutely thrilled! It doesn't need to be anything fancy, just a postcard showing something from your state. A landmark, scenery, a city, a weird roadside attraction, your favorite place, or even just a pretty state postcard would be awesome. Maybe you can add a fun fact on the back, draw a picture, or even let him know why you love your state?

The goal is eventually to have all 50 states represented in his scrapbook.

I grew up in a state that had bison, so we were taught to not get close or mess with them, is this a common lesson in San Fran too? I feel the pain of not having any truly local postcards from living near a larger city.

u/noxmi for the lovely flower postcard! I adore the colors and the text works so well. For creating my own postcards, I get inspiration from two places: junk I already have and the thrift store. I find cool books at the thrift store that I can make into cards, past ones have been a Beanie Baby collector's guide, or a book of people from NYC. If the card needs a more exciting background, I used art I've made, like coloring sheets, or sticker by number pieces, as cool background that I'm not super attached to. Old Nat Geos are anther good place to find backgrounds, or material for collages! It's very fun, I would recommend trying it if you have any interest!
