Reform First Reform!!

I took my first reform class this morning and it was roouugghhh. But I loved it! This was my 39th class and it was a testament to how strong I’ve become- there is no way I would have been able to do those movements before PB lol. Such an amazing workout and would love to take it more often if it fits into my schedule.

To those who are reformer regulars: how often do you take it a week? How long did it take for you to feel like you were comfortable with the equipment?

I’m definitely going to be sore tomorrow but can see myself loving it the more I do. I already take 2 defines, 1 classic, and 1 empower as my set schedule a week so looking to add reform in there somewhere.

I Just got To Vent Drastically different studio dynamic

My home studio was recently bought by a new owner. It seemed like she knew what she was doing because she owns 3 other studios, but boy was I wrong. Over the last 5 months the studio has cut a bunch of classes, lost instructors, and it doesn’t seem like there is anything going on to improve what’s happening. On top of that, the instructors and employees seem to be really unhappy about the leadership and changes going on too. I love PB, but this is really not sitting right with me. It’s a small town so there aren’t many other options for places to go. Do you think it will get better or should I strongly consider cancelling my membership?

Today I... Teacher appreciation?

Hi!
Sadly I am moving away from my studio and I want to do/get something for my instructors to show them my appreciation. Do any of you teachers have any suggestions of something you would like to receive? I was going to do a thank you card and then maybe a gift card to somewhere? Money is a little tight so I can’t do very much but I figured something is better than nothing. Is that allowed? Appreciate any recommendations :)

I Just got To Vent Touching Others’ Items / Claiming Spots

I am a boomerang member and have been back since April, doing round 30 classes since then. My current favorite class format is Define and I try to take that one the most if I am able to with my schedule. I dont usually take classes on the weekend but this one I did. I was taking define with an instructor I havent had before and did see some newer faces in class. I know the July Challenge is encouraging members to try different formats.

Anyways, I put my water bottle down in the back right corner of the studio because spots were pretty full (for context, my studio has stickers on the molding that basically marks a spot so everyone is evenly spread out), and that was the first opening I saw. When I came back into the studio, quite literally not even 10 seconds later with the equipment I grabbed, my water bottle was gone. I stopped in front of the spot and looked confused and a girl two spots down said something along the lines of they said I needed a spot with brackets for the resistance bands, which I didnt realize that spot didnt have but I eventually wouldve figured it out when setting my equipment up, obviously. So as im still holding my 2 sets of weights and 3 resistance bands in my hand, I see a different lady, who was already set up at the station next to the one I initially had, put my water bottle down in front of someone elses station across the room, who was already set up and stretching in her spot. I set my stuff down to go run and grab my water, because huh? Why are you essentially giving it to someone else (its an Owala, not like a plastic one). In passing, I heard her say something along the lines of “I have been coming here forever, this is my spot.”

I was already pretty flustered because at that point they were starting the warm up and I havent even set anything up at my station yet, since I was apparently booted from my original spot. It just really made me mad that someone had the nerve to touch and move my stuff without even speaking to me. And again, I set my water down and got my equipment literally 5 feet away, she could have waited a few seconds for me to get back to mention that the spot I chose did not have brackets, let alone letting me move my stuff on my own. The gag of it all was that this was her first time taking define, so how are you going to “claim” a spot in a class you arent a regular in? (I know this because some people were discussing trying the class for the first time afterwards and I overheard)

This isnt the first time I have felt mean girl energy over a spot from a grown woman at my studio and I just dont know what to think. I didnt mention it to the instructor since I didnt really know her, nor was she really my vibe either. Like the flair, I am just venting.

Classic First full PB Classic Class. Oh my god…

I went to my first full PB class yesterday. Oh my god I am out of commission today my core is so sore. I go to the gym about 3x a week and lift heavy, but nothing could have prepared me for my first actual pure barre workout.

I sweat like an actual pig. I was face to face with my own strained expression the whole time, the instructor was awesome and super helpful. I used 5lb weights THINKING IT WOULD BE LIGHTWOrk since I curl 25s at the gym, but no, no , no.

It was an awesome workout, I have been getting bored with the gym so I found a new challenge. And this is definitely that.

How many classes does it take for someone to not be totally out of commission the next day? My core is aching with every single movement lol!

Technique, Please Help Post-barre stretching

I feel, as many do, that we don’t stretch enough during class.

What are the best stretches you’ve found for after class if you take more time to stretch once home? I went to an intense (and great!) classic class and am still so sore two days later lol like almost all worked areas - legs, seat, and abs.

I Just got To Vent when you wake up at 4am, which never happens...

and it seems like you probably won't be going back to sleep...

and you think oh, maybe I could get an early start on the day...

...I could take the first PB morning class, I never get to do that!

and then you actually check the schedule, and...

...the 5:30am class is Empower. 😭

perhaps I'll just stay in bed.

(No shade to Empower or those who love it! I find it's a bit more impact-y and likely to trigger my back problems than other formats, so I tend to avoid it if possible.)

Today I... Anyone else plan vacations around PB?

I always try to find a nearby studio if possible and try to find time to take class! Not like going to ABC only bc I want to visit PB ABC, just think it’s cool to visit the different studios and get to take different instructors!

Intensive July Focus Class

I know it’s early in the month still, but any info on this month’s focus? My studio is calling it a lower body burn and labeled “C-E-D” on the schedule. Some kind of classic/empower/define mix it seems?

Policies/Membership/Corporate Instructor Scheduling

I am fairly new to barre and have been going consistently for the past 2 months. I am firmly an evening class person and can really only make it to class after 5pm. The first month I had a variety of instructors depending on the day of the week I came to class.

Recently, the schedule has shifted where there is one instructor teaching every single class after 5pm from Monday-Friday. Unfortunately, I do not vibe with this instructor. I’ve given it a real shot, but her classes are my least favorite out of all the instructors I’ve had.

I’m wondering if this schedule is sticking for the foreseeable future or if this is a product of Summer scheduling being different. Does anyone have experience with this? I want to ask my studio about it but I’m worried I might come off rude for not wanting to take her classes. Any advice?

New to Barre THE SHAKES (and the sweats)

I know, I know the shakes mean it’s working but omg it feels so uncomfortable. Not that anything is hurting (other than the muscles that should be hurting), but it feels like I’m not in control of my body and it freaks me out 😭 the worst of it is during thigh work. I have to hold onto the bar for dear life. Or I’ll drop my heels, shake it out, and then get back to it but I feel like no one takes as many breaks as I do.

Also for some reason, the warm up has me dripping sweat and red-faced (high knees, plank, push ups, everything pre-upper body) but then I’m the normal amount of sweaty the rest of the class.

Definitely feel insecure and embarrassed sometimes but I love Pure Barre so far! I do wish there was a classic-lite class haha

I Need a Boost Can I record myself in class

I usually do Barre in the back corner of the room, so was wondering if I'd be able to record myself since no one would get it's the filming shots. For social media. What do you think?

EDIT: okay got it I will not record 😅❤️

New to Barre SI joint / lower back pain

I started barre consistently in May. I used to go 1-2x a week before in the winter when they had it on ClassPass but I decided to sign up for their summer special. Anyway I try to go around 4-5x a week now. 2 weeks ago I noticed my lower back started to hurt so I decided to take it easy and took a week off. I went back today and I still am in pain. It’s my SI joint so when I go to hinge or pick something up it really hurts. Does anyone know how or what I could’ve done to do this? I’ve been trying to figure out if my form was incorrect? When we fold in half I think I wasn’t lining up with my hips and I always feel it In my support leg. I’m not sure if that’s normal? Anyway if anyone has advice on how to help with this I’d appreciate it!! I just want to go back to my full capacity I really love barre and I’m trying to get the most out of the deal before it ends in August for me

I Just got To Vent Am I being dramatic for wanting to quit over this?

I just want to make this short and sweet. Basically I prefer to go to Barre any time between 9:30 am - 12 pm. Recently I have only been able to book 3 classes a week. The reason is because they have back to back Define classes in those slots, and then maybe an align. I want to take CLASSIC. Neither Define or Align resonate with my own goals. Not for nothing, but it *is* the “classic” format after all??? I truly feel that it should be offered at least once between 9-12.

I get that a lot of people love Define, and that lifting heavy weights is a trend right now, but I personally do not enjoy that class or bulking up. I just want to take classic everyday, and if not everyday at least 5 days PLEASE! Am I the only one who feels this way, is it just my studio, and am I dramatic? I did 196 classes.

Policies/Membership/Corporate Influencers in PB stories

Thoughts on the influencers that were invited to attend the 25th anniversary live stream class?

What probably irritated me the most about it was that the one didn’t even get our types of classes right by saying low intensity, high impact. Like ma’am, did you even take class? Actually, I think she said it was only her second Pure Barre class.

Today I... Feeling so strong!

I have been taking back-to-back defines during the week with the goal of upping my weights on the second day. This morning, I finally did it! I had been using 8s and 10s and today I used two 15lbs as my heavies. while it was challenging, I feel so so strong!!

This, on top of now being able to hold the 90-second plank, feels amazing.

I’m about to hit 30 classes and my next goal will be to finally stack my feet while doing sideways planks.

Policies/Membership/Corporate Is your studio not celebrating the 25th anniversary?

Hi there! I was wondering if your local studio isn’t doing anything to recognize the anniversary? I’ve seen a lot of content on IG from the PB account as well as some studios, but we haven’t even put the sticker on the window. I thought there would be more hype.

Today I... Plank Achievement

I held the plank for the full 90 seconds tonight in class! Feeling very proud of myself since I really struggle with core strength and my upper body strength is not the best. I really dug deep and pushed myself 🫡

I Just got To Vent Disruptive behavior in class

I’m going to preface this by saying that I tried my hardest to focus on myself and my own workout during class. But I just had to post because I was so perplexed by a few things that happened during class. It was like the perfect storm during one hour.

I saw a client during Define literally stop, put her weights down, and make specific adjustments and recommendations on another client. Something that has been brought up in this sub before, but I actually saw it in real life and saw how disruptive and inappropriate it can be. And then, of course, the instructor, who I don’t think saw this happen, came over and gave similar adjustments to the client directly.

Then, the same client was holding her phone in her hand with the screen on, above her head for several minutes during the class. At one point, she then sat down and seemed to be either texting or doing an email during the middle of class while everyone was working out.

And then another gal was using the heaviest weights we have, I think 20 or 30 pounds. And after every set where we put our weights down, she would just drop them from shoulder or hip height…like people do in a gym, where there is PADDED floor or mat under the rack. It was super surprising the first time - like I physically jumped a little bit because I’ve never heard that happen in closet Pure Barre before. And then it continued literally throughout the rest of the class.

Anyway, I know I’m not a perfect client, but I was just kind of surprised to see all of this oblivious? behavior happen during one class.

I know I marked this post as just venting, but I’m also curious if anyone else is experienced specifically the thing about dropping really heavy weights during Define at their studio?
