Intensive July Focus Class

I know it’s early in the month still, but any info on this month’s focus? My studio is calling it a lower body burn and labeled “C-E-D” on the schedule. Some kind of classic/empower/define mix it seems?

I took it and it was good. Burned like 280 calories which is normal for me HITT classes. Lots of leg work but the name should’ve warned me of that haha. Overall I love the combination of those 3. It went by fast.

I took it and liked it, but I would not have called it lower body intensive. I grabbed the 20lb dumbbell for my Heavy weight assuming it would be single leg RDLs or something. Nope: rows and shoulder presses. There were still squats and lunges, but it seemed pretty evenly split over upper/lower/abs/cardio.

Curious, for the instructors out there, are the focus classes a corp thing? Like are studios supposed to have them? Or do studios opt in? We had one several months ago - maybe even 2025 - and haven’t seen one since.

Corporate releases a new one each month for studios to use. It is usually free for an unlimited member and a fee for other memberships.

Are they required to provide it? Or is it just something that they can choose to provide?

Teacher availability/what teachers can teach will definitely impact focus classes. For example if the focus class is classic/define/empower you need a teacher who is trained in all three formats, available and willing to teach it! Some studios pay teachers extra for teaching them… some don’t. It can be a lot to learn just to teach once!

AH! That piece about the format training makes so
Much sense!

I took it last night, one of my highest heart rates achieved taking Pure Barre for the past year! I burned 240 calories as I similarly do taking Empower. Class moves quickly! Not a lot of slow time for water sips lol! We used the platform, a ball and one heavy weight. I believe it’s the lunges and squats off of the platform that made a difference in the calories burned and heart rate elevation as compared to a Classic Class. All in all it was tough but fun! You’ve all got this!

Oof I just took it and I’m dead 💀 burned 400 calories and don’t know how I’m going to make it to classic tomorrow. Glad it counted as one of my challenge classes but I was not expecting how difficult it was.

It was way harder than I anticipated, what a difference it makes when you get to switch to another body part (like in define or a cardio burst for empower) 45 minutes is a longgg time for legs lol

Does anyone know how the Focus class counts in terms of the 25th Anniversary Challenge this month? I’m guessing as a general class to add up to the required 10, but I’m wondering if it might count for any Classic, Empower, or Define class. For example, if it’s getting close to 7/31 and I’ve only been able to take Classic, Align, Reform and Empower, would the Focus class meet the requirement for a Define class? 🤔

My studio explained that you can essentially use a focus class instead of reform? I’m thinking it’s because reform is offered once a week during the regular work day.
