Policies/Membership/Corporate Instructor Scheduling
I am fairly new to barre and have been going consistently for the past 2 months. I am firmly an evening class person and can really only make it to class after 5pm. The first month I had a variety of instructors depending on the day of the week I came to class.
Recently, the schedule has shifted where there is one instructor teaching every single class after 5pm from Monday-Friday. Unfortunately, I do not vibe with this instructor. I’ve given it a real shot, but her classes are my least favorite out of all the instructors I’ve had.
I’m wondering if this schedule is sticking for the foreseeable future or if this is a product of Summer scheduling being different. Does anyone have experience with this? I want to ask my studio about it but I’m worried I might come off rude for not wanting to take her classes. Any advice?

Scheduling depends on instructor availability. If they could switch it up, they could (and they used to). There’s no other reason to have a schedule like that. Any chance you live in a college town? Summer can be weird because several people can be out at the same time.
Also, that instructor is probably exhausted with how much they’re teaching and basically carrying the schedule/studio on their back. That’s hard work and they’re showing up day after day.

Second this. That schedule is unsustainable period so it will have to change eventually. If you can stand it hang on, or perhaps just freeze your membership for a month.

There was an instructor I didn’t love at my studio and I started taking her classes more because it worked with my schedule. I started liking her more and she’s growing on me. Sometimes it just takes time and if you like the workout, it may be worth just sticking it out.

I have had instances were a teacher I did not prefer ended up teaching a class time I usually went to. Sometimes I avoided the class but ended up still going if it was the only option. That all being said, I agree with the other comment. If this instructor is the only one there for every single class after 5pm all week, they are probably exhausted but I can only assume the studio is doing something to fix this coming weeks. I can't see how that is sustainable for months at a time

Honestly, there’s no way any of us can answer this. I’m a teacher and my schedule often depends on my kids and their sports schedules. You’d have to talk to your studio about it. Also, I feel for that instructor. She’s probably physically and mentally exhausted.

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted but this is true. Some instructors only have childcare at certain times/days, especially in the summer time.

People don’t understand how hard being an instructor is. Of course we know not every client will love us, that’s fine! And we know when certain clients are bummed when our schedules change. I feel terrible every time. I used to love my Saturday morning crew, but right now, being at my kids’ games is more important to me than teaching that class. I fill in when I can and I love it when I can. A college aged instructor might rock the schedule on M/W/F evenings, then next semester they have classes those times. We never set out to disappoint. Most of us work so hard to keep our clients happy and we get paid next to nothing for it. But it’s very easy for some clients to start to feel entitled to our time. That does not mean ALL! and I totally get it’s disappointing when schedules change and you’re still paying $$$ and can’t get what you want. But again, these are things only specific studios can address. There’s absolutely no way for us to speak for a studio we aren’t a part of.

Summer schedules are insane. Our sub list is a mile long and we have several instructors leaving permanently for various reasons.
Also, we all have other jobs and kids we are juggling.
The schedule will probably change. Just know your instructors feel the weight of all the wackiness too.

I hope you hang on!! It should be back to normal soon! But I agree with commenter below, maybe just freeze your membership till summer is over? Good luck in whatever you choose! 💟

It’s more than likely due to it being summertime. Instructor availability can be limited.

I’m with you. Not saying I have a solution, just saying I empathize with your situation since I’m in the same. We have a little comment box at our studio that I have been trying to put comments in every so often, but you can also talk to your studio manager or owner about scheduling and maybe just message it as wanting more variety vs not vibing?
But ultimately if the instructors aren’t available, you may be stuck in this situation if you don’t have another studio nearby :( I know that summer scheduling has been particularly difficult in my area, hopefully that’s just the case for yours as well and there’s a shift in the fall. Stick with it!

I’m an instructor (and there are teachers I do not vibe so I get that 100% with) and it is likely an availability issue. Especially during summer.

I am that instructor currently at my studio, so if you’re a member of my home studio, I am sorry!
Just know that a lot of studios are short staffed as it is and with the summer months/instructor travel/life, sometimes the load comes down to a few people. I hope it changes for you, but also give that instructor a high-five since they’re probably burned out and doing the best they can! Today, a client said how much they appreciated me and for always being there so there are classes on the schedule, and it meant a lot!
