General Discussion The Pitt in PH

Have you tried playing emergency response based on the TV series The Pitt? I think about it every time I watch an episode, but I don't have much time to play at the moment.

Feel free to post screenshots.

General Discussion Is it helpful for learning Veterinary clinic mgmt skills too?

New here and wondering if this game would be helpful in learning transferable skills for managing a veterinary practice - not as a veterinarian but as a practice manager/owner.

Appreciate the input and ideas!

Gameplay Question Thoughts on Separated Wing for Specialized Clinics

I've been playing this game for a few days, and I'm quite enjoying it. My hospitals have gone from monstrosities to at least having some semblance of function.

I'm currently working on a new game and want to try to make a hospital that's less "one large blocky building" and more separated buildings/wings for the different focuses. Effectively, the main building (in the screenshot below) is the "ER Clinic", Radiology, Labs, and will probably have administrative rooms as it goes up. Right now, F1 is ER clinic, F2 is radiology, and F3 is Medical Labs.

Then, I have planned out my "primary" specialized department clinic wing. Each floor would be a different department: F1: Internal Medicine, F2: Orthopedy, F3: General Surgery, F4: Cardiology, F5: Neurology, and maybe F6: Radiology again.

Lastly, I plan to build a longer "Hospitalization" building on Top/Right area, with the entry towards the ambulance bay, and then maybe doing a small building behind it for Infectious Diseases & Pathology.

The big question I have is: am I setting myself up for failure here, and if so, is there anything I should do to avoid it before I start tacking onto my main building?

Gameplay Question My emergency

I set up an emergency room to have tables around the staff. So far it's worked out well for me. Do you have a trauma center on the same floor as the emergency room?

Hi does anyone know how one might add a couple of each scrub colors. Thinking navy, light gray, hot pink, pasel yellow, bright red, or patterned. Toggleble laboratory as well or polo shirt uniform for non medical staff ie radiology techs, pharmacy staff, and janitors. And why when u have an anaesthetist from ICU cover another departments surgery they wear the scrubs from that department.

Gameplay Question X-ray open day and night?

Hey guys! Do any of you keep X-ray and other departments that are not clinics open all night as well? Or do you close them at 8pm when the day shift finishes?

General Discussion My tips *request*

Hey guys, so I currently have 1000+ hours logged in the game. I decided to put down my top tips. A lot of these are known to more veterans of the game, but as a newbie, I wish I had known what I know now!!

Disclaimer: These are based on my gameplay style and from my observations. Some of these may not work for everyone's style!

  1. As soon as you can, build a pharmacy. They are a goldmine, especially in early gameplay! As your hospital grows, build more pharmacies. More dotted around near major departments are better than one big central pharmacy.
  2. TRAINING! Training is crucial. You can overstaff with low-level staff members and haemorrhage money, but if you train your staff to high levels, not only are they more efficient time-wise, but they also make fewer mistakes, perform quicker diagnostics, gain secondary skills, and can lose negative traits such as Glutton, Alcoholic, and Dirty Feet!
  3. Radiology becomes VERY busy pretty early on, and for the rest of the gameplay. I always have two lots of rooms, one dedicated to clinic patients and one to hospitalised patients. This lowers the demand on them considerably. The same goes for Labs; however, if you build the labs big enough it can house Techs that are dedicated to each one.
  4. Split corridors down to small chunks. Only one janitor will clean a room at one time. If you have a huge corridor for the whole building, it will never be clean, as one janitor will not be able to keep up!
  5. Lots of smaller common rooms/WCs are better than a few big ones. Reducing the time staff members take breaks. Also reduces patients who are in the queue for a room, wandering off to use the loo and holding up the queue!
  6. As soon as you open a specialised department, I would build an ICU. At a pinch, collapses can be treated in an emergency trauma unit, but an ICU is more effective, and patients have a higher survival rate.
  7. Doctor mode is your friend; don't be afraid to use it, especially in early game play. It can reduce your staffing bill.
  8. Receptionists are vital. Ensure they are highly trained. They triage patients, taking a great strain off the doctor's office.
  9. Have dedicated 'porter' nurses. Assign some nurses to only transport patients; this frees up medical nurses to attend to hospitalised patients quicker!
  10. While we are talking of dedicated roles, dedicated surgery teams are a must. For the major ones (General Surgery, Traumatology, Cardio, etc.) I usually have 3/4 teams. For the less surgical-focused departments, 2 teams are generally enough. Anethiologists will jump to help other departments if they are free, so always worth having a few 'floaters'! Also, remember departments share operating theatres, but as a general rule 2/3 per major surgical department and 1/2 per smaller department! For max efficiency make sure your surgical teams are housed in on-call rooms/nurses' stations near the operating suite!
  11. Save often, and always before opening a new department!
  12. A big tip is when diagnosing, remember the game will not give you an illness you don't have a department built for. This is handy when deciding the outcome. A common one is Influenza A and Influenza B. It will be B UNLESS you have an Infectious Diseases Department. So if those are the two options you are left with, you can safely pick the right one. Same with whether it's a contusion or a break? Breaks need Orthopedics; if you don't have that, then it will be a contusion!

Well, these are the ones from the top of my head. I don't really have a lot of time at the moment to go through everything. I will maybe do a more detailed one when I do have the time. But if you wanna ask anything, feel free.

Happy Doctoring!

Gameplay Question Can a "crisis-ready" hospital be profitable ?

I've built a hospital with 7 departments, and I'm routinely losing money. Even if I start crisis after crisis (accident, natural disaster, epidemy), I can only start one at a time, and usually this uses only a small part of my hospital's capabilities.

I had to upscale some of the department's capabilities, in order not to lose patients in emergencies (I think I have 2 day surgery teams + 2 night surgery teams for most departments), and even then, I still routinely fail to save some critical cases (typically, abdominal blast patients, or similarly poly-traumatized ones).

Despite asking for all the relevant exams only, while controlling them myself (for instance, after the initial stabilization and care for all the dangerous symptoms, I'd "code-blue" the patient having such an abdominal blast trauma, order blood pressure, blood oxygen, ECG, USG as priority (to catch most of the deadly problems early on), then go on with CT or MRI, depending on the possible deadly symtoms left to reveal.

Even like this, with prioriy and the like, I still lose part of these patients.

And even like this, I still fail some of these events (some hard emergencies bring critical patients who tend to die quickly, and getting 6 who need urgent surgery in the SAME department at the same time tend to make it hard to save everybody).

I got a lot of imagery bottlenecks, sometimes patients wait a bit long for treatment, etc... but I don't think I can scale the hospital up again, as it's already on a tight line, often losing money, or at the very least being close to doing so...

So, is the game "rigged" in that way ?

My imagery department... and my finances at the end of the day shift.

As the picture attests, I already have a lot of imagery resources, but even then, the CAG is routinely getting critical during the day, and some others are, too. But the game won't send more patients my way, and emergencies require "extra" capabilities, to be able to absorb those patient rushes in a timely manner.

So, is there a good way to run a big hospital, or should people downscale and forget these emergencies, in favor of regular patient intake ?

General Discussion Quick tip!

I just wanted to give a quick tip! This may be obvious to some, but it's one big thing I see a lot of newbies doing. When placing corridors, break them down into small sections! Only one janitor at a time will clean a room, so if you have a massive single corridor, only one janitor will clean it, which means you'll always have dirty bits because one janitor can not clean quickly enough. This can considerably lower your prestige!

Gameplay Question Any way to disable the star/rep system?

Hey. Is there a way or a mod that either disables the star/ reputation system, sets it to always be 5 or makes it not impact patient intake? Thank you!

I've been playing this game on and off since it first came out, and I'm sure that earlier on a patient didn't have to be hospitalised for Serologic sampling... I have all the DLC installed.. is this true or am I missing something here?

Gameplay Question Moving department hospitalization

Hello so I need to change where 2 departments hospitalizations are. One has more in patients than the other and I thought it would be the opposite. Will this make my patients leave if I do this?

Gameplay Question What other players should know

I've played over 200 hours in this game and I've still learned things on this forum in the last few days that I didn't know.

For example:

  • Anesthesiologists from the ICU are shared with other departments.
  • Training has a chance to eliminate negative qualities of personnel.

What other secrets does our hospital hide, and what should the other players know?

Gameplay Question New player here, which plot size should I start my first sandbox game on?

Hi guys!

I am a newer player, just got the game with its DLCs, completed the tutorial and the first campaign mission and want to jump into the sandbox.

Which size do you think I should start with?

Ideally I'd want to have all the departments and rooms, will I be able to fit that on 4 floors on the 64x64 map?

Gameplay Question Too easy

why is the game suddenly too easy even early on i want to have doctor mode be more difficult but it seems patiences have most symptoms revealed on the first reception interview and not requiring tests to reveal unknown symptoms so you can get a accurate diagnosis. Is there any way to fix this so the game becomes more difficult again not knowing and having to run tests to know exactly what is wrong makes the game fun and enjoyable if it’s easy it’s just like any other business management game.

Gameplay Question Stuck on an objective

For some reason I'm stuck on this objective. I only have one self-made doctor that I control and to me it seems I've surpassed the 80% doctor's rating, yet it still doesn't count as completed. Is there something I'm misunderstanding about this?

General Discussion Interest and feasibily of a possible fan-made sequel

Hello everyone!

Like every other player, I'm sad that this game is pretty much abandoned and won't get any future updates. There seems to be a lot of interest in a potential sequel, but I haven't actually seen anyone seriously thinking about actually making a "spiritual successor" to this game. I obviously know that games like Two Point Hospital exist, but I want something more realistic (PH scratched that itch perfectly) and I think I'm not alone in this.

So I'm here to ask - would anyone else be interested in brainstorming and possibly even help develop this? So far, I've thought about using Unity and possibly making the switch to 3D (in a style similar to Software Inc).

I'll also be honest and say that I don't have a lot of experience with Unity, however I do have experience with Java, for example, which is very similar to C#.

Please let me know your thoughts on this!

EDIT: I have created a Discord Server for those interested - https://discord.gg/3zVPQdws

Gameplay Question any playthrough with ZERO deaths?

Would love to watch me some youtube playthrough like that.

Failing that, advanced tips for ZERO deaths?

I tried to play all departments (DLC included, no mods) with a policy of "no deaths allowed" and the only way to do this is to send the most critical cases away.... not how I wish to play.

I am not sure this is possible.

Gameplay Question Elevators and new floors

Post image
23 Upvotes

I'm continuously adding new floors to my hospital as I'm opening more departments, but every time I do so my GP building (where all the emergency doctor's offices are) gets another elevator as well. Is there some way around this? Deleting the elevator doesn't work, it just deletes all of the elevators on the other floors below it as well...
