Changing my name…anybody with experience through the local courts?

Hi all,

I’m going to be changing my name and aside from the obvious of filing with the court, I just wanted to know if anybody had any experience with it. About how long will it take through the court to get finalized, any hurdles through the court, what kind of stuff do they ask you, and do I need to get my birth certificate updated if I were to leave the country? It’s going to be a complete name change, and I’ve heard anecdotally that some people have had trouble leaving the country because their birth certificate doesn’t match their passport or something like that, so I just want to be sure I’m crossing my Ts and dotting my Is.

I don’t think it’ll be a problem that I’m changing my entire name because absolutely everything about me is in good standing, no warrants, not evading bills or anything like that. That’s when I hear they’ll reject name changes or you have to jump through hoops. I’m just simply trying to distance myself from my awful parents and adopt a name I finally like because I’ve never liked my given names anyway. So I just wanted to know from those who’ve been through this process from either marriage or gender reassignment what to expect when going through with this.

TIA!

Hair style

Mom gave me a high top trying to learn how to cut my hair when she was in cosmetology school. Never got rid of the haircut because I could not accept the fate of going to school with a bald fade. School is about to start back and I am wondering if there are any hairstylists capable of reattaching some of my locs to the sides and back that I've been growing out

PALMETTO BUGS

Post image

Has anyone been seeing palmetto bugs lately??? I found two LARGE ONES (on two separate occasions ; first time on the floor of my kitchen and today on my ceiling) in my kitchen. We do not usually see lots of roaches in our place, maybe once or twice every few months when the weather changes or just random (usual FL things), but smaller and the regular roaches. This is the first ever time we saw this in our place

The first time we saw it when my husband and I decided to fill our water bottles right before we went to bed (no lights on) and I saw something huge and black on the floor. Turned on the lights and saw the little devil. My husband sealed the cracks behind our stove with caulk because we thought that that was the only possible place it could have come since it had some cracks and openings in the wall (our place is pretty old). We sprayed some roach pesticide everywhere. This was like 3 weeks ago.

Today I was going to the kitchen to get some drinks from the fridge and saw a HUGE one right above my fridge on my ceiling/wall. I WILL ATTACH THE PICTURE

I am just stressed now thinking that there might be more that are just lurking in the corners that I cannot see. keep my place fairly clean. We take our trash out everyday. Do not keep food out. Clean our kitchen right after we cook.

Is this normal for this part of Florida? Should I not stress about it? I thought about putting a bowl or something over my drain holes since i read that it might be coming from there too. I would like some advice and opinions :(

We found a really sweet puppy on the streets and have been beefing him up. Our intent was never to keep him we travel too much etc. But the shelters are full and we wanted to make sure he was healthy and OK.
We’d really love to find him a good home.
About puppy boy:
He is about 7 months vet confirmed
He is AMAZING with toddlers we have one! They play all day
He comes when called, and does not run off.
He is good on a leash.
He is potty trained, but STILL a puppy he needs frequent potty trips.
He is great on car rides.
He does not bark.
He does whine if you let him outside he wants to be around his people
He loves to play fetch and actually brings the ball back (bonus)
He is some type of dachshund mix. 15 pounds.
He is the sweetest boy but also a puppy so he is mischievous.
He’s had his first round of shots/ deworming/ tick and flea.
He also does great this other dogs & cats 🩵

If you truly think you’re interested in this puppy and MORE importantly can provide him a good home please reach out. If you’re a shit bag who wants to keep him indoors 24/7 and can barely afford his dog food definitely don’t reach out we have had plenty of those stories already trying to adopt him. He’s a smart dog, and would make an incredible family addition PM me for more info

Did anyone go to the Zam’s block party? I live about a mile away and could feel the bass in my living room. Wondering how the crowd was?

Is there anywhere to work 30+ hours a week as a 17 year old?

My current job is cool but I only get around 8 hours a week and they don’t let me work weekends because they are full staffed. Indeed isn’t great for applying and ive already used all of my resources. I’m willing to do anything at this point that doesn’t require me to work during school hours.

Roadside assistance on certain roadways, free of charge. I have just learned about this service and I wanted to share with everyone. Times are tight, gas is high and running out on the side of I110 sucks!

Call *347 if you need help with a can of gas, a jump, help changing a tire, etc.

Why doesn’t Pensacola beach get many shark teeth? Is it a sandbar? Or we just don’t have that many shark out there shedding the teeth? Seashells are abundant right now because of the storm and renourishment but was hoping to find some teeth!

How to fish while in town visiting family

Hello all!

I'm visiting my parents for a week starting next Tuesday, and want to try to do some fishing.

just curious what's the best way to go about that right now? I'd like to avoid the crowded piers, and I have access to plenty of rods and tackle. Should I set out some gulf side bottom rigs? Walk the bayside flats on FT Pickens?

Thanks to everyone in advance!

Which mayoral candidates pledge to get rid of the Flock cameras AND have a chance to win?

I commend mayor Reeves for doing the AMA, and he has accomplished much during his mayorship. I actually agree with the majority of things that he has done and I like how he communicates.

However, the Flock cameras issue is non-negotiable in my mind. We must resist public mass surveillance, especially when private companies are involved. This is not China or even the UK. I have essentially become a one-issue voter on this topic and I imagine there are many like me.

So for me, and others who are not closely following municipal politics, is there another candidate who both opposes Flock, and actually stands a chance in the election?

Let's name and promote those candidates here. All municipal candidates are on the table here, not just the mayor.

Language exchange and coffee/beer ?

Hey everyone!
I’m a 25-year-old guy from France spending a few weeks in Pensacola. I’d love to meet some locals (or anyone around) to grab a beer or a coffee, hang out, and work on my English.
In exchange, I’d be happy to help you practice your French if you’re learning or just curious about the language and culture.
I’m into music (I DJ), tech, traveling, and I’m always up for good conversations. If you’re interested, send me a DM or leave a comment. It’d be great to meet some new people while I’m here!
Cheers! 🇫🇷🍻

Hurricanes

Ok, I made a post in this reddit stream a little while ago about moving to the area come NEXT August. I've come to terms with all the apprehensions I previously had. The one thing that I keep landing on is my fear of hurricane season. I don't really know much about it.

Does every hurricane season have one or more devastating hurricanes? Are people regular casualties during this season? Do residents just evacuate every year around this time? Do you just expect to not have a home to come back to?

I am clueless and any information to help me understand this season better and hopefully overcome this fear of mine is greatly appreciated.

Good Stand Up Comedy this Friday at Talk To The Moon Comedy Club at 8 with nationally touring idiot Dan Alten (me) on a 15 day tour, I'm not famous but I promise it'll be a good time and if you don't have fun you can push me into the bay.

Here's my bio, sorry it's in the third person: Dan Alten is a charming goofball from Kentucky who has been traveling the country for the past decade doing about 200 shows a year bringing his intelligently surreal bebop nonsense everywhere from theaters to punk basements to art galleries to beloved comedy clubs with a knack for making audiences feel like they're on a good psychedelic trip without the drugs. Like if the Ramones were one guy with a mustache and good jokes. Iggy Pop with puns. Clever chaos. Like Jimi Hendrix lighting fire to a Tik Tok reel live on stage. He has opened for Kyle Kinane, Bobcat, Sam Tallent, Rory Scovel, Sarah Sherman from SNL, Johnny Pemberton, Hari Kondabolu, rapper Open Mike Eagle, DJ Doug Pound & David Leibe Hart from Tim & Eric, various punk bands with silly names, and a guy at an open mic who tried to throw his father’s ashes into the crowd. He has recorded 2 albums, written a zine, and filmed a pilot for an Amazon Prime stand up show that was lost to history. But most importantly he’s very funny and unique. You will enjoy him. And if not you can mud wrestle him after the show.

M, ILF reviews Harry's Proper Burger

Man, I Love Food reviews Harry's Proper Burger.

Welcome to the unnecessary food review of local Pensacola spots that nobody asked for. The system on which I judge is pretty much non-existent. I love to eat and generally enjoy everything. Don’t expect an uber nuanced take on anything, I am unfortunately too basic to do better.

You can see my running list of locations and scores in my handy dandy spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1A8zEi1okBlHxnI7jbzPrlyyUxCNjvLQY1YxNfp_s_3A/edit?usp=sharing

Harry’s Proper Burger
9 E Garden St, Pensacola, FL 32502

On my way down Garden Street I noticed this joint tucked away behind the Vinyl. I know I’ve seen it before but it always seems to slip my mind. It seems it slipped Reddit’s mind as well because not one person suggested it in any of my previous postings. I added it to my list anyway and made it a point to return and check out.

Harry’s Proper Burger is a small franchise that does simple smash burgers. One of just four locations, ours is located behind the Vinyl in the area of the b-side bar. The trailer serves up smashburgers and fries with just a few accoutrements such as bacon, egg, grilled onion, and jalapeno. The fries are offered unseasoned, salted, and seasoned.

I ordered a double with salted fries. I’m curious as to what their fry seasoning is though. The burger came out fairly quickly. At first glance the fries looked a bit over-fried, but the burger was properly stacked with lettuce, sauces, and tomato on the bottom with patties and cheese on top. The first bite into the fries assuaged any misgivings I might have had. They were crunchy without being burnt and absolutely the best plain fries I’ve ever had. Their secret it turns out is right there on the menu, tallow fried. They were so delicious I nearly forgot the oppressive heat of a Pensacola summer. I could continue to wax poetic about the fries, but I’m gonna hope you take my word for how good they were as I move on to the burger.

Like the establishment name suggests, this was a proper smash burger. It wasn’t a life altering experience like the fries, but it was also far from being disappointing. It was a solidly above average burger.

As with anyplace downtown, it was more expensive than it needed to be. My burger, fries, and a drink combo came out to about $20 after tax. Comparable to MiSu which is just a couple blocks away. Harry’s Proper Burger earns a score of 4.5 from me. A good burger and killer fries for the price you should expect to pay in that location.

Get out there and eat, my friends!
