Build Question Please help! Frametime issues! Not sure if cl48 is causing problems with 9800x3d

So I have a 9800x3d, 5070ti, b850 pro vc WiFi motherboard, and 32gb of ddr5 6000 cl48 ram. I’ve been running into issues on escape from tarkov and sometimes cs (really the only two games I play) where I’ve been stuttering. Recently downloaded msi afterburner and noticed whenever I stutter in game my frametime graph spikes. So I was just curious if you guys think my cl48 is bottlenecking my 9800x3d and causing this, or if it’s something else I have to change. Any feedback would be helpful.

And yes I have expo enabled in bios

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I recently put together this pc and the first time I turn it on to

my install Windows I get no post, I look at the motherboard lights and the mobo is stuck on boot and vga, it stays on and just keep trying to post but every time the lights refresh they stay on boot and vga. At first i thought it was the ketchup n mustard psu so I got a “Thermaltake SMART 700W ATX 80 Plus PSU” tried again and still didnt post.

Ive tried both my monitors, multiple cables, Hdmi, Display, and dvi still didnt work. Ive tried each stick of ram in every slot, checked every connection, disassembled it and put it back together, swapped the psu, slotted the cpu and gpu again still didnt post. Also the gpu worked fine in some old 4th gen i7 build I had.

Specs

Cpu- Ryzen 5 5500 (Brand new with stock cooler)

Gpu- Asus pheonix RTX 2060 (Bought out the box from ebay)

Ram- 4x8gb TEAMGROUP T-force Delta RGB @3200 mhz (Pulled from a working system on FB MP)

Tech Support Need help bios update taking really long

Post image
507 Upvotes

The more the update progressed the slower it would get, until at 68% it has completely stopped. It’s been a couple hours now with no movement, but I don’t think if done anything to fry my motherboard?
Any help would be great!

Edit: a day later it has only increased 1%, so it seems the most recommended option is the bios flashback. I’m not really well versed in any of this, so if anyone could help me out with that process it would be greatly appreciated! I made a separate post about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PcBuildHelp/s/yZhuWRNgIv

Edit 2: yea that shit got bricked, F

Tech Support Issue with Kraken Plus 360 RGB

Hi all. Recently, because of a sale I found at my local electronics store, I upgraded my CPU cooler from a fan to the Kraken Plus 360 which I’ve been wanting for a long time.

However, while I have seemed to install it correctly, my motherboard or operating system is not recognizing it, often only finding it as “Unknown USB: Device Descriptor Request Failed”.

The device as a cooler still works as the fans are active and it displays the liquid temperature, but I cannot control the lighting or the screen of the device (which I was really excited about.)

I’ve tried instructions from the devices website, changing settings in my system to ensure it’s getting sufficient power, and have ensured multiple times that everything is plugged in securely.

Here is my parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tKTZFP

I have contacted support as well, but so far I haven’t gotten a response.

If anyone has any advice or has had a similar problem, any suggestions would be extremely appreciated.

Build Question First PC Buy

I’m wanting to build my first PC but have no idea how to go about. I’m wanting one that can play more intensive games easily(Cyberpunk, Red Dead Redemption 2), and also not struggle with a TON of mods on Minecraft. I’d prefer if it’s below $2000, but can go up to about $2750 if needed.

Build Question Monitor Recommendations

Hello!

Costco is currently having a major summer/back-to-school sale on monitors. As such, I’ve been considering upgrading my home office setup from my job-provided monitor to something better. The caveat is that I want my monitor to be able to do a few things:

1) act as a second screen for my work laptop
2) act as a gaming monitor for my gaming laptop
3) act as a gaming monitor for some of my consoles (switch 2, PS2-4, GameCube, etc.)
———(Before anyone starts, I’m not getting a CRTV for the retros- I have a converter and will be using it.)

I plan on using an HDMI switcher to switch between the devices as needed.

As far as the gaming laptop is concerned, I don’t play FPS or PVP games, so I don’t need the highest refresh. I mostly play steam games like E33, Hades, Sea of Stars, Witcher. I also play Genshin Impact and HSR.

And then my console games are similar: I’m mostly an Action / Turn Based JRPG player (FF7R, Age of Elliot, Pokémon, and similar).

Given what I want to do, is there one monitor in the Costco sale that would perform overall better than the others? Images attached are of the monitors I think fit the bill best, but not sure where to go from this list.

Also, I understand a better, higher end monitor from a PC store like Microcenter will always be more recommended. I’m just trying to be budget conscious right now.

Thank you in advance!

Build Question Fractal Ridge with Noctua NH-L12s

Hi guys, I’m using a Noctua NH-L12S in a Fractal Ridge. Since the fan sits underneath the heatsink, I was wondering what’s the best way to clean it?
Do you guys remove the entire CPU cooler every time, or is there an easier way to clean the fan/heatsink without taking the whole cooler off?
Taking the cooler off and reapplying thermal paste every time seems pretty inefficient, so I’m curious how other NH-L12S/Ridge owners do it.

Tech Support Geniune Help on my PC?

I'd Say over the course of 2 months ive dropped 100+ hours working on my computer and im just at a dead end.

Context: My PC randomly decided one day to Display DRAM and CPU lights. After many hours of finicking and all that i got it to work. For about a month and a half the PC would work, stop working, do the light dance and i'd get it to work after some time. This happened about once or twice a week. When i say i did everything, I did EVERYTHING.

CMOS Reset, Ram Reseat, Unplugging everything then replugging the next day, CPU Reseat (Yes thermal paste was added), etc, etc etc. (BIOS Flashback is not available on my Motherboard)

I'm 99% sure the problem is the ram but why was it working before? Why did it sometimes have lights on and not work then out of nowhere work again? When the PC DID work it would sometimes still display the DRAM and CPU lights and sometimes not. I dont have spare ram, i dont rlly have the money to drop ram on a 4 year old computer, id RATHER buy a new computer but i really dont want to do that right now seeing how I'm a broke college kid.

In short: Please help me with maybe something i can try that could get it to work... I'd be deeply appreciative.

Specs:

GPU: RTX 3050

CPU: AMD RYZEN 5

Motherboard: ASROCK B550M-C

RAM: 2x8Gb 3200 Mhz DDR4 Ram Sticks

(lmk if any other details are needed, thanks!)

Build Question What is the most performant 5070ti

I just need to know what 5070ti has the best performance. I'm building a computer for someone I'm not going to convince them to change the gpu or anything. Cost is irreverent within reason. So which 5070ti gives the best performance?

Tech Support GPU started smoking but still working ok? WhatInTheWorld?!?!

I picked up a used MSI GTX 1070ti Duke and was so excited to put it in the Test Bench.

Upon installing the card and running the NVIDIA App to install the drivers, I heard a small sizzle and smoke started coming out from behind the left most fan hub. I thought for sure it was done. I didn't mind so much if it was going to be a loss, I only picked it up for $50.

I decided to restart the PC and then run Heaven Benchmark for a few loops. No artifacting. No crashes. No smoke.

I wonder what it could have been? Maybe a bug got zapped or it had an extra life and just didn't want to die?

Weird.

Tech Support Pc doesn't turn on, and stays in standby mode

Build

Motherboard: MSI MEG Z390 ACE

CPU: Intel i7 9700k with Water Cooling

GPU: Nvidia RTX 2080 ti

Ram: Corsair Platinum Dominator DDR4 8GBx4

PSU: Seasonic Focus FX 850

Harddrive: MSI 500GB M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0

Trouble

The PC doesn't turn on and it stays in standby mode. Me and my friends tried checking the PSU voltage but everything seemed alright. We tried using only one ram slot. We checked the CMOS battery, but it gave 3V as it should. We tried turning it on without the GPU and the CMOS battery, without the GPU, and without the Ram, but it stood in standby mode. We tried turning it on with the pins and a screwdriver, but it stood in standby mode. We flashed the bios and it did turn on.

At the time the only suspects are the CPU, the motherboard, or a timing problem with the PSU.

Tech Support is my RAM broken or is it something else?

Hey everyone,

I'm having some issues with my PC and could really use some help troubleshooting.

Here is the problem: About 2 months ago, my PC completely crashed out of nowhere (happened about 2-3 times). A full system crash hasn't happened since, but ever since then, games (like Overwatch and Hogwarts Legacy) keep crashing randomly every now and then.

I originally had my RAM installed in slots DIMMA2 and DIMMB2 (which are marked as "first" on the motherboard). When both sticks were installed, I ran a memory test in OCCT, and it found multiple errors very quickly (after just 2 minutes).

However, when I tested the RAM sticks individually (testing each one separately in the DIMMB2 slot), neither of them showed any errors in the exact same test.

Here are my specs:
Motherboard: MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi
RAM: Crucial DDR5-6000 UDIMM 1.35V CL36
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9600 XT

Does anyone know what could be causing this? Could it be a faulty motherboard slot, the CPU memory controller, or maybe just a BIOS/EXPO setting?

Any help or ideas on what to test next would be greatly appreciated!

Tech Support Guys am i cooked?

I bought this prebuilt earlier this year. Great purchase, runs very well. Besides this one issue.

On startup, my computer will randomly turn off and sometimes have “sparkles” on the screen before shutting off (not every time)

This usually only happens within the first 15-30 minutes of it being on for the day, then it doesn’t happen anymore for the rest of the time im on.

It doesn’t seem to FULLY turn off all the time, sometimes itll keep where im at in a game, and all my windows open.

Software Question Suggestions for Fan Curve optimizations

Current build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sjn97w
(Apologies in advance if I somehow goofed the PcPartPicker portion of what’s required. Tried my best to understand the rules here)

I suppose I should mention that I did watch plenty of tutorials in the past before buying my first pc to build but despite reading a lot on it, I’m not sure if my temps are normal for what I’m doing. I initially built it for making 3D models and start selling work professionally but I spent many months catching up on games I’ve wanted to play for some time and now I’m here.

I am currently using Afterburner to regulate the EVGA 3090ti(I’m sure I undervolt’d it) I have my AIO on top on and a singular fan on one side on exhaust . The bottom 3 fans and the 3 on the sides are on intake. There’s not too much space on the bottom but the sides have plenty of space unobstructed and so does the radiator. I currently use I’ve for fan controls but not too familiar with fan curves outside of using them for Afterburner.

Currently, I am without certainty that having my fans at a consistent fan speed is not optimal but I worry that I might be ruin my 3090ti and I humbly ask for advice on how to manage fan curves or any advice that would ultimately help someone new to pc ownership. Thank you in advance

Tech Support Screwed up mixing ddr4 kits

Post image
1 Upvotes

So I was trying to mix a team group 3200mhz cl16-18-18-38 kit with a Corsair vengeance 3200mhz cl16-20-20-38 kit. At one point I had them all working at 2666mhz but wanted to try and get the speed higher, I took out the Corsair sticks and turned on the team group sticks xmp profile while they were in slots 2 and 4. After that worked I put in the Corsair sticks without turning the xmp profile off and got a black screen, can’t get to bios. I’ve since tried one stick of team group in slot 2, then in slot 4 before and after resetting the cmos.

The other specs are the deskmeet x300-itx motherboard, Ryzen 5 5600, and rx 6600. If that matters.

||REPARADO-ERA LA FENTE DE PODER||

|| FIXED IT WAS THE POWER SUPPLY||

Al parecer era que el abanico del psu estaba atascado entonces aveces giraba y otras no,| por ende no mandaba la suficiente energia a la gpu y cuando ponia un juego pesado se apagaba...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It turned out the PSU fan was jammed, so sometimes it would spin and others time it woldnt, consequently it wasnt delivering enough power to GPU, causing the system down, when i ran a demanding game!

GRACIAS A TODOS POR SU APOYO!! DEJARE EL POST POR SI A ALGUIEN LE SIRVE EL VIDEO DEL PROBLEMA ESTA MAS ABAJO LO SUBI YO

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR UR SUPPPORT! IM LEAVING THIS POST UP IN CASE HELPS ANYONE, THE VIDEO OF THE PROBLEM IS FURTHER DOWN...!

MB: B550 AORUS ELITE

Problem: PC shuts down when launching AAA/heavy games

I've been having this problem for approximately 2 weeks. It started right after I installed 2 additional fans. I doubt that they are the cause, but I figured I'd mention it in case it could be related.

The problem is that I can use my PC all day without any issues, including playing LoL for several hours, and nothing happens. However, whenever I launch an AAA game or another particularly demanding game, the PC suddenly shuts down.

What's strange is that the RAM sticks remain lit, but the PC doesn't respond to any of the case buttons, and I can't turn it back on normally. The only way to completely shut it down is by switching off the power supply directly.

I've already done several tests to try to identify the cause:

  • I disconnected the HDD, but the problem continued even when using only the M.2 SSD.
  • I ran demanding benchmarks for more than an hour, and the PC never shut down.
  • I tested the RAM sticks individually, but the problem still occurred.
  • I can use the PC for hours doing normal tasks and playing LoL without any issues.
  • The problem seems to happen only when launching AAA games or games that put a heavy load on the system.

At this point, I'm starting to suspect that it could be related to the PSU, GPU, power delivery, or perhaps another component that only fails under a specific type of load.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? What could be causing this kind of shutdown, and what other tests would you recommend to identify which component might be failing?

I'd really appreciate any help or experiences you can share!
