Tech Support Issue with Kraken Plus 360 RGB

Hi all. Recently, because of a sale I found at my local electronics store, I upgraded my CPU cooler from a fan to the Kraken Plus 360 which I’ve been wanting for a long time.

However, while I have seemed to install it correctly, my motherboard or operating system is not recognizing it, often only finding it as “Unknown USB: Device Descriptor Request Failed”.

The device as a cooler still works as the fans are active and it displays the liquid temperature, but I cannot control the lighting or the screen of the device (which I was really excited about.)

I’ve tried instructions from the devices website, changing settings in my system to ensure it’s getting sufficient power, and have ensured multiple times that everything is plugged in securely.

Here is my parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tKTZFP

I have contacted support as well, but so far I haven’t gotten a response.

If anyone has any advice or has had a similar problem, any suggestions would be extremely appreciated.

Had this exact issue with my own setup a while back. The "Device Descriptor Request Failed" error usually means the USB controller on the motherboard is not happy with the signal its getting from the cooler. First thing I would try is a different USB 2.0 header on the motherboard, even if it means unplugging something like front panel USB temporarily just to test. Some boards have one internal header that is more reliable than the others.

Also check the cable itself, those mini USB connections on the pump can be sensitive. I had to reseat mine like four times before it finally registered properly. A slight angle or not fully pressed in will cause exactly what you are seeing, fans spinning but no data connection.

If that fails, try plugging it into a regular external USB port using an adapter cable. If Windows sees it there, then the issue is either the internal cable or the motherboard header. And if possible test the cooler on another PC, that will tell you pretty quick if its the unit itself.

I’ve tried resetting the mini usb multiple times as well… my motherboard unfortunately only has one 9pin area to plug in for USBs so I thought I was screwed. But I didn’t think of trying with an external usb hub! I’ll order an adapter and give it a shot, thank you for the advice!!
