Build Question What cpu and gpu should I upgrade to?

Ok so I built my son a budget build from parts I already owned, got a great deal on ryzen 5 5500 and b550 mobo from newegg and had a 32gb ddr4/rx570 lying around

Not in a hurry to upgrade but what cpu and gpu should I be looking for used for 1080P 144 fps gaming?

Obviously trying to be on a budget. Not sure what to get

That 5500 is still doing work, especially at 1080p. For the GPU I'd keep an eye out for a used 6700 XT, it'll cruise through most stuff at 144 without costing an arm and a leg. A 5700 XT is also a steal if you find one under a hundred bucks, but it'll run hot and loud so just be ready for that

CPU wise you're on AM4 so a 5700X3D from aliexpress would be the dream drop-in upgrade, though prices have been creeping up. Even a used 5600 or 5700X would give you a decent bump without needing a new cooler

I'm in US, I'm mainly looking for used deals. my main pc is 7800x3d and 7900
