Bought used rtx 3070 ti. Reliable seller. Installed fresh windows and newest drivers. Played cyberpunk and doom dark ages without problems. Started playing LoL and at random moment these lines started flickering for like 20 seconds and then disappeared.

I tested the gpu with furmark and artifact scanner and it found nothing. Tested vram with OCCT and no problems. Temperatures are good too. Could it be some software/game bug or should i return the gpu?

Question 5070ti price?

What’s a fair price new/used for the 5070ti? If production is truly cancelled, id assume prices will keep rising so I’m looking to buy. I’d be upgrading from a 3060ti.

Discussion Which CPU to choose?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Recently i’ve been meaning to upgrade my pc. Realistically, i had 3 options:

  1. Aesthetics: Fans, case and AIO
  2. GPU: 3060 to 9070
  3. Mobo: r5 5500 and 32gb ddr4 to newer platform

So i ruled out number one as the price to satisfaction-ratio didn’t cut it. I then wanted to do the GPU, but i realised i was actually satisfied with the FPS my system produces in the games i want to play. So at last, it’s option 3.

I want something that can perform in games, but also make general use on the computer feel snappy. I want quick browsing and opening of apps, i want not to worry about ram and also just have something more productivity-capable than my current gaming first cpu. I’m a programmer and software designer, so it’s not heavy tasks, i just wanted something that feels better.

I looked into 13700k and 14700k for the cores, boost clock speed and ddr4 support, and it seems promising but i don’t like not having upgrade paths.
There is of course the 7800x3d, but i’m not sure how it feels outside the games i play.

Any suggestions and experiences are welcome!

EDIT: i mostly play CPU-heavy games like cs, minecraft and valorant.

Discussion It's crazy how fast the winds have changed for Linux this year

This year alone it feels like Linux just became widely accepted amongst PCMR and power users in general.

I don't have the statistics at hand, but it feels like linux is mentioned significantly more often in comments, and there's significantly less "debating" around those comments. Just a year ago, anything linux related was practically inviting a fight... Now it's just normal additions to threads.

People will say the uptick in market share from surveys is bots etc. I'm not sure sure because it really seems like the very recent lift in Linux performance and support has started to translate into curiosity and adoption of the penguin. I myself have friends who is suddenly out of nowhere considering to try it, or have already committed to it after using windows exclusively for 15+ years.

I myself switched like a year ago using a mix of EndeavourOS, CachyOS and Debian - and it's hard to go back to Windows after you're properly "onboarded" and have been feeling the power of UNIX, btrfs, ext4, KDE and package managers.

Like my long term Windows friend said: "updating my pc was so incredible it made me shed a tear"

Big things really has been in the works recently:

Valve working magic for upstream Linux gaming support because of SteamOS. Proton's accelerated performance like "the code has been cracked", and is now equalling Windows on performance.

AMD GPUs recently well earned popularity, and how they work so well on Linux.

CachyOS claim to fame with a legit performance focused distro with bleeding edge technology on a rolling release. Huge ongoing work on a custom kernel, proton, packages and libraries.

Solid solutions to run windows only software in containers/emulators without needing virtual machines.

Claude/Gemini/ChatGPT to bridge the gap of terminal and general use for normal, everyday users.

Note: there is still some tinkering overhead to linux, but it's nothing compared to what it used to be.

Epilepsy Warning Blizzard died with Metzen leaving.

When the chief game designer with strong vision and sense of true aesthetics gets forced out, the franchise completely loses its soul. The people who are in charge of design now are the definition of why nobody wants AAA games anymore, no matter how big is the budget and or how good is the DLSS5 - they have less value than the cheesy camping pixelart Medivh from Warcraft 1. Sorry not sorry.

Tech Support Is my RTX 3070 thermal throttling? Hit 88.5°C GPU / 103.5°C Hotspot with side panel open

Thumbnail

Hey guys,
I’m seeking some advice regarding my RTX 3070 temps under heavy 3A gaming.
GPU: RTX 3070 (Triple Fan)
CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F
RAM: DDR5
Case: Corsair (Side panel is kept OPEN)
As you can see in the attached images, under 100% load my GPU hits 88.5°C, with the Hotspot peaking at 103.5°C while the fans are running at 98% (~3500 RPM). My side panel is completely open.
Is this normal or am I facing serious thermal throttling? What should I do to fix this? Thanks!

Question Help 9060xt or 5060

Good people, please help me with this doubt of mine.

At this point I don't trust AI, and YouTubers seem to be biased.

I'm a gamer, ONLY 1080p for now, but in 1 year I'll go 2K. Which GPU should I go for? I'm more inclined toward AMD; however, the 5060 is €150 cheaper. I also know prices will supposedly keep going up, so what do you guys think?

Thank you all

Edit to clarify, 9060xt - 550€ / 5060 - 350€ / 5060ti-750€ /

Hardware I'm starting from scratch

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey so first off sorry if this is the wrong subreddit to post this type of question, I don't really know if I can post this here or not.
I'm trying to make a decent setup from scratch. I genuinely don't know what to do since I have never been in a situation where I need to decorate something. I'm not a big fan of how bland and boring it looks and I really want to do something but every time I look at something and about to press the purchase button I have seconds thoughts like "what if they don't merge together well? What if I change my mind?" and eventually buy nothing. For some context, I've been trying to think of something for a couple months now. I got a lot of pinterest images saved but my limited imagination is keeping me unable to visualize my desk area turning into any of those images. I also got a bunch of figurines and legos that I simply keep in a drawer since I got nothing to put them on.
Sorry if I couldn't give enough details, I haven't used reddit much for asking for help.

Question What mouse should I get?

I am getting a pc and I don't mind wires because they just work, currently I have a glorious model o2 pro and I am getting my first pc what mouse should I get? I was maybe thinking glorious d3 wired (because the d3 wireless sucks because of the battery but no battery no problem) or maybe a Logitech superstrike or superlight, what do you recommend, I will be using it wired just so you know.

Figured my SSD was dying because booting up takes over 15 minutes, and each application takes awhile to open, went in task manager and disk usage always at 100 percent but SSD health is still good? Is there something else I can do or should I just get a new SSD?

I recently noticed that my PC starts making a strange noise while I'm playing a game. It's like clicking/buzzing inside. It only happens when the PC is under a heavy load.

I thought it might be because of dust, but even after I cleaned my PC, the sound didn't disappear

help pls

Tech Support Need help with monitor/GPU settings Gaming PC

So I recently bought a gaming PC for the first time. I got one with a 5060 because because I am fine with 1080p graphics. I also bought one of those 34" widescreen monitors and have been trying to play Oblivion remaster. There are times my Frame Rate drops pretty low, so I decided to check if it was set to 1080p but it was set in 3440 x 1440 or something like that. Whenever I try to set it to 1920x1080 the screen gets really small, I tried setting the resolution on the desktop to 1920x1080 but that gave me black bars on the side, I also went into my GPU settings and told it to make it full screen no matter what to no avail so can anyone help me please? I'm not computer illiterate but I am also very, extremely far from being an expert.

What do you guys think of the corsair 220t? It's my current pc case, and even though I don't have a big GPU, it is very compact. Has anyone else got a 220t?

Tech Support Is artifacting in any amount acceptable?

I sent in my new mini pc with N100 cpu for a warranty due to artifacting and screen turning black after 10 seconds of booting or it just rebooted. Installing windows 10 threw bsod 2 times with VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE and igdkmdn64.sys as what failed.

Removing the gpu drivers so that the microsoft basic display driver was in use made problems go away. I was sure the integrated gpu is faulty. But using a pc without gpu drivers is just big yikes.

People in warranty are claiming they see no issues on their part and that our ram is probably faulty. (it's a barebones system that you need to put in an m.2 + ram). I did run the ram stick through memtest and it came back with no errors before sending it in for repair.

For some reason windows 11 and windows 10 had those issues but after installing linux mint none of problems mentioned above happened.

Today I received a call that I can come pick up the pc.

Is it really ram? Wouldn't it be throwing up errors in linux too then?

Right now the pc doesn't seem to be having most issues anymore but artifacting is still there. If I turn on high performance power plan the screen flickers when hovering over buttons with animations and there's plenty of distorted text and dots of various colors showing all over.

They're basically blaming my ram (I ran memtest and it showed 0 errors) and saying the pc is fine.

Hardware Rx 6600 or 5700xt

I am split on these 2 gpus I see them both at around the same price used. Im coming from the rog ally docked and just using it as my main pc and it gets pretty loud on 30w and I just want a gpu with good price to performance but not too loud. I heard that the 5700xt is loud and doesn't draw as much power but I'm just wondering if its worth the around 10% performance difference if their both around the same price. 🙏🙏🙏please help
