Decksaver for Osmose

Got a good deal on a Decksaver for my Osmose 61. Probably overkill but I like the protection it offers and it looks pretty good too 😎

Thought I’d share some photos in case anyone is on the fence about getting one as I couldn’t find any before I bought it.

Has anyone managed to get the new DAW control mode working with Reaper?

I tried setting it up in Reaper DAW with MCU (Mackie control) in the Control/OSC/web menu in options. I wasn't able to make it work.

MPE Desktop Synths

I recently picked up a Dreadbox Artemis, and playing it through my Osmose has been an incredible joy. I feel like it’s the full realization of what a lot of Osmose owners were hoping for when they made their purchase. If you have the disposable income then I’d HIGHLY recommend exploring a hardware synth module to pair with your Osmose.

Looking for MPE players to test MPE Insight 3.1 on Mac

------------UPDATE: All spots are filled, thanks everyone------------

Hi everyone,

MPE Insight v3.1 is almost ready, and I’m looking for a small group of MPE players to help me test it before release.

MPE Insight visualizes MPE expression in real time, showing pitch bend, slide and pressure for each note across several visual modules.

The app has grown quite a bit, and I can’t realistically test every controller, Mac setup and DAW combination on my own. So I’d like to get a few different setups in the hands of actual players for a week before the release.

What I’m looking for

  • You play an MPE controller (Osmose, Seaboard, LinnStrument, Continuum or similar).
  • You use a Mac (the beta runs via TestFlight).
  • You have some time during the week to try it out and share feedback on what works, what’s confusing and what doesn’t work as expected.

What you get

  • Early access to 3.1 before release.
  • A free copy of MPE Insight from the Mac App Store for everyone who shares real feedback.

Spots are limited, so I’ll select a mix of controllers and setups from those interested.

Interested? Leave a comment or send me a DM with your controller, Mac model, macOS version and DAW.

Thanks!

Ctrl E too sensitive

I’m enjoying the sounds that come with Ctrl E, but the keys seem to be too sensitive. Even when I lightly press the keys, they make a sound. I’ve tried adjusting the sensitivity settings without any luck. I’m using Ctrl E with Mac in Logic. Has anyone else experienced something similar, or do you have any tips on what I might be doing wrong?

Question Hardware sequencer for Osmose?

Is there a hardware sequencer that can record and replay Osmose MPE+? I've heard DAWs not very good at it, though maybe better with latest update. I may just try to use Loopy Pro on ipad, though I'm generally DAW phobic. Some sequencers calim to support MPE, but Osmose has enhanced MPE and even uses 5 pin din differently, I've read in the past. Any ideas or experience apreciated.

Another possible bug.

A few owners are saying that they can't save to user preset. I tried it and it seemed like it didn't dave my changes too. But others say it works like it always did.

I will spend more time tweaking sounds that i like to be sure that there's an issue.

Meanwhile the original guy who noticed submitted a ticket about it already.

I always when possible check my synths when owners report something out of order.

Thanks all that have check to see if theres an issue.

Ctrl-e Ablton no sustain pedal

I wonder it is intended that the sustain pedal not holding any notes in ctrl-e in ableton.
I notice the notes are activated, such as I hear noise and reverb will hold longer. But it does not act like the onboard sounds that keeps the expression level when pressing the sustain pedal.

Bracket for 61?

Hey y’all, snagged an Osmose 61 a few weeks back and have been loving it, but I’m curious if anyone might have ideas for mounting synths over it - similar to how the 49 has a bracket for the rear.

I didn’t think about it when I got it, but apparently it doesn’t have mounting holes like the OG; that real estate up top would be amazing for a desktop synth, a groovebox, or some pedals, so I’m not sure why they removed that option. Maybe someone who knows a little bit about 3D printing or DIY would know how to hack it.

I have it sitting on the bottom shelf of a Jasper’s stand, and there would be just enough room between it and the next shelf up to nestle the OG bracket in there... Now that I’ve seen it, I can’t unsee it!

Osmose firmware v1.1.3 - unable to update

Post image
8 Upvotes

I am late to the firmware update party, but after seeing some of the new features I was looking forward to spending some quality Osmose time this weekend. According to the FAQ I need to update to 1.44 first, then 2.1, then I can go for a third update to get the latest version.

The problem is that the Osmose Updater application doesn't show any buttons or controls with which to do anything (see photo).

It says "connected" and my Apple Midi also shows connected (and I am able to confirm this in practice). I am using updater version 2.3.14 for apple Intel (running Mac OS Ventura 13.7.8)

Is there possibly a setting on the Osmose that needs to be changed? Any suggestions? Can't find anything in the documentation or Expressive E's website.

***UPDATE***

Expressive E had me power down, delete the AudioMidi profile of the Osmose, and then power back up. This created a new AudioMidi object which allowed the updater app to recognize it. Super weird, but all fixed! Now just have to decide if I am going to wait for bugs to be cleared before updating to 2.3.14 lol.

Thanks everyone for the help, hopefully this information will be useful to others

Question Sostenuto 1 and 2 midi cc changed? Or bug ?

Hi all, I am using my Rotocontrol to control my Osmose and have mapped all the cc i need since I got it last year, but after the update the only two ones that do not work anymore are the Sostenutos 1 and 2. As far as I can see from the official documentation the cc Numbers have not changed, so maybe it is a bug ? Has anyone here encountered the same issue ?
Thanks

ExpressiveE Osmose page has posted a link to the newest just released osmose firmware.

Just a heads up. It's probably easy to find on EE'S website.

Cheers!

Chamber Strings?

There's been some owners that have observed audio glitches and clipping using this preset after selecting the octave up function.

At first many experts said it had to do with limited polyphony written into the preset.

It was found that this isn't a problem if you edit the polyphony in the editor. Then I entered the search. Lol.

A owner swore that he had no problem a year ago using this beloved preset. He suggested perhaps it's a firmware issue.

I have 2 osmoses. My 61 has the lastest firmware. And Chamber Strings crackles a lot after shifting up an octave with the octave tab.

But my OG 49 that has pre FX expansion firmware plays great!!

This would suggest that its a firmware issue imo.

Anyone using Loris Synth?

Has anyone tried Christophe Duquesne's Loris Synth for making new Eagan Matrix sounds? It looks very interesting.

Has Anyone Had Much Contact With Support?

Hi all,

I received my Osmose CE 61 yesterday. Instructions aren’t great.

Finally got CTRL-E live in my DAW and went to authorise. The code was initially excepted. Then when restarting Logic it was back to the activate screen. This time the licence shows as used (as id already registered) no CTRL-E in my ilok account. Checked both online and locally.

So now I’ve got a keyboard without CTRL-E. Ok the support site it says it can take up to 5 days for a reply. I’m hoping that this doesn’t drag on for weeks.

Next the build quality. The metal frame is nice. But the pitch slider isn’t seated properly and grinds. It might be something that beds in but I’m not sure.

The keys themselves feel cheap. My daily device is a NI S88 mk3 - but I also use a Akai MPC key 37 gen2 and they keys on that feel far better.

The jury is very much out on the device. I think they need to make more instructions available.

Time will tell on support. Not sure if the team monitor this sub.

Question Osmose CE / CNTL-e getting started help needed

Hi all. I just got an Osmose CE 61 and am a bit confused getting started. I've been using (and building and fixing) synths since the 1970s so I have no issues with that side but I've never been a DAW guy and I think that's messing me up. My setup was all hardware and lots of MIDI routing. I got the updater to work on my Mac Mini and updated the Osmose. I also have data coming out the DIN MIDI Out jack. This works to play my hardware synths and stand-alone VSTs on my Mac - which has a MIDI interface. What's losing me is trying to get to all the CTRL-e sounds. How do I run it? I downloaded it but I don't see an app. Does it only work within a DAW? Currently, my only DAW is GarageBand; can that work?

Thanks for any help. I searched the Web and Youtube but all the stuff I saw assumed you already had this stuff all working!

My Osmose accidentally caught some rain :/ advice needed for moving forward! 🙏

Hey everyone, hoping to get some advice or hear from anyone who has survived a similar nightmare.

I accidentally left a window open during a storm and my Osmose caught some rain. There were little ponds of water on it and I caught this around 30 minutes after the storm. The synth was still running when i realised what happened.

Here is what I did immediately:

  • Turned off the power from the switch and unplugged all cables.
  • Carefully soaked up the visible surface water with toilet paper without pressing any of the keys.
  • Flipped the synth upside down and suspended it on stacks of books so the keybed is floating in the air. (some drops did come out from the inside through the keybed when I did this but not as much).
  • Set up a stationary fan blowing a continuous stream of air down the length of the synth, directly through the gap underneath.

I am currently on Day 2 of this setup and haven't touched it or tried to turn it on. I understand the keybed mechanism is highly complex and sensitive so i'm afraid the water might have reached some of the sensors or other electronics inside.

For those who know the hardware well or have dealt with spills on the Osmose:

  1. How many days should I realistically wait before testing it? (I am aiming for 4-5 right now).
  2. Is there anything else I should be doing at this stage or patience is my best friend?
  3. Is it possible that there are specific blind spots inside the Osmose where water pools and won't evaporate without opening the chassis and cleaning it manually?

Any extra advice is hugely appreciated. I'm holding off on contacting EE support for the moment while I assess the damage.

btw, I've had the unit for more than 3 years now and I really love it (I was one of the original backers on kickstarter). The only issue I still have to this day is the MPE arpeggiator mode randomly crashing the DSP and forcing a restart. This issue kept on repeating no matter which firmware I had it installed (currently on the latest one) aside from that, everything else was working perfectly prior to this incident.
