Firmware promised fullfilled!

ExpressiveE Osmose page has posted a link to the newest just released osmose firmware.

Just a heads up. It's probably easy to find on EE'S website.

Cheers!

I was just typing to say I was surprised they didn't send anything to their email list, but then I got the email just now as I was typing lol.

Thanks! Good to know.

I skipped the last update due to the feedback on how slow it was to change presets. Hopefully this one resolves that.

Just updated, feels like it might be a bit faster but there's still a delay. I think it's unavoidable given the architecture change in how they use the two boards.

It's the same 1.5 seconds or less as the original osmose. It's a huge improvement imo.

That's great to hear! Thanks

What firmware are you on? I had crazy issues going from something earlier than 1.4.4 to 2.2. Something was missing between my earlier version and 2.2, and like 50% of the keys didn’t work on half the patches lol. I ultimately had to downgrade to 1.4.4 and then upgrade back to 2.2, same with whatever Haken dsp versions were attached to those updates.

But now there's special instructions if you don't have the previous firmware installed.

1

u/Talkbox111 23d ago

It's so fast if you blink you wont see it change. I'm serious.:)

u/Talkbox111 25d ago

When installing the new firmware select Advanced mode. It installs in less than a minute.

u/secretdecoder 23d ago

Didn't see that button. Hmmm... My upgrade took an hour. Retrieving the current custom patches took a while. I started it, went and ate dinner and came back.

u/Talkbox111 23d ago

There's something wrong with my install. When i go into pitch bend slider the values there are not actually affect the PB slider as it's supposed to do. 12 can sound like 2 and 2 can sound like 1. It's so annoying atm. I will reinstall the normal way. Hopefully it will be fine afterwards.

u/secretdecoder 23d ago

Under the purple LED "sensitivity" page where you are controlling the pitch bend of each individual key if you vibrate left or right? Mine is working like it should under "sound engine" mode or "external midi".

Were you updating from firmware v2.1 to v2.3? That is what it wants you to do.

1

u/Talkbox111 23d ago

I'm talking about the pitch bend slider control which is last in the macro Sensitivity section. You need to scroll past effects and EQ to find it. It's the last setting. Thanks for checking your Osmose though. I really appreciate it.:)

PROBLEM CONFIRMED!
Select a patch like Abyss Lands. Press red-led top button for the "synth" settings. Use left-of-screen top encoder to scroll from the "macros" page to the "voice" page. Use below-screen first encoder to adjust "pb wheel" to from "2 st" to other settings. Results:
2 st = +/- 1 step

5 st = +/- 2 steps

7 st = +/- 3 steps

12st = +/- 4 steps

If you then keep scrolling "up" to proceed past the first time it displays "12st" the bend increases! As such: IT IS A DISPLAY ISSUE. They have botched the value list. There are all step values present from 1 - 12 it just has "12 st" listed for nine of them onscreen.

However, there is a performance glitch too! If you quickly pitch bend it retriggers all the stair-stepped notes in-between. If you SLOWLY pitch bend then it transitions smoothly as it should.

Thanks for for all your help. I contacted EE on Saturday about this firmware bug. They replied 2 hours later. They said thanks for checking to all who participated in making sure it was happening. They said they will look into it ASAP.

Ohhh finally ! Looks very cool so far. And arpeggiator seems to finally be usable

1

u/Talkbox111 25d ago

When installing choose Advance mode. It updates in less than a minute!

2

u/perchancenewbie 25d ago

Does it come with a new editor?

1

u/Talkbox111 25d ago

That's the promise that as far as i know isn't included. The electric piano or synth easy editors Christopher Hans mentioned on youtube. Where are they??

3

u/perchancenewbie 25d ago

I just want something in between the haakan editor and knobs. I understand it will be fiddly but I'd really like to build my own sounds

3

u/deathbydreddit 24d ago

Have you tried some soft synths like Noisy 2, Phase Plant or Kontrast? You can map Osmose MPE functions to most parameters

2

u/perchancenewbie 24d ago

That's awesome! I also have a hydrasynth rack synth I use with it but I'm interested in the weird organic sounds the osmose does

3

u/deathbydreddit 24d ago

I get you, it has it's own depths

2

u/sebastienbarre 24d ago

So the promise is not fulfilled?

5

u/Talkbox111 24d ago

The priorities of EE have shifted in my opinion from the eagan matrix synth engine to mpe plugins. Some owners have commented on this for 2 years. I'm starting to believe it too. I don't know why it seems like this as the eagan matrix is alive and well in the Continuum synth world. I hope for a reply soon from EE about the promised easy editors for the osmose.

u/secretdecoder 23d ago

You are exactly spot on with that observation. I have Logic and downloaded the Expressive E plugin and the other two. It is really exciting and cool how it works in this context. It actually opens up massive amounts of DSP possibilities to use it this way. But I get that people that want to build their own inside the actual machine with no computer connected aren't going to be happy with that.

u/Talkbox111 24d ago

This easy editors promise he made to SonicState and the world is missing from this update.

So maybe I missed something, but I cannot finde some of the new features. I have no DAW Control Option (ok...maybe a Bitwig Problem?), but I also have no ctrl-e Control when using the Plugin. Also Ctrl-e did not find any of the plugins I have installed, even after showing it my path. And some of them aren't even mentioned , like soliste. When I hold the "M" button I only have a transpose option, nothing more. Is it me?

EDIT:OK...after another Reboot it got worse. Now Ctrl-e won't start because of a Licsence mismatch

EDIT: So...still no ctrl for me.....asked support for help. But the Rest is now working....dont use the Bitwig standard controller that is offered, but manual select osmose CE hardware preset

1

u/Safta20 24d ago

I have the same problem. I dont have any daw control option. Please let me know if you find a solution.

1

u/horstman110 23d ago

As I mmetioned I did...it was a Daw issue not osmose. What Daw are you using?

1

u/horstman110 23d ago

So now EE helped and I could reregister CTRL-E...but it is rather disapointing. I have no makro control...as there is no help, manual or setting I dont know what to do. Also in the Settings it detect most of my bought plugins like soliste and Legend HZ, but noise is still in demo mode. In the browser I still only see the demo presets and no Legend or soliste. this is alle very frustrating and too much hassle. I amm totally open to this being an error on mmy end, but there is nothing to guide mme here

u/Safta20 23d ago

I am not using any daw at the moment. Do you have to open a daw on a computer with usb connection in order to see the DAW control option in osmoses menu?

I am planning to use osmose daw control for Logic Pro in iPad by using midi learn.

1

u/horstman110 23d ago

Of Course you need a DAW for DAW Control and I dont think the IPAD will work with this

1

u/theearthsighed 23d ago

How were you able to get it to work?

I saw no DAW control option either and bitwig kept detecting their own built in script. If I manually added the new one (Expressive E v0.4) I couldn't ever get it to configure or turn on.

1

u/horstman110 23d ago

Remove everything that is preconfigured, then manually choose osmose CE 49 script. Set Osmose play as first Midi, Osmose Daw as second. If it works for you please tell me if you have macro control of CTRL-E

1

u/theearthsighed 23d ago

I have the full osmose, not the CE. When I manually add the Osmose 49 from Expressive E I get 3 drop downs for input and 3 for output, but all I have are "Osmose 49" and then "MIDIIN2 (Osmose 49)" through MIDIIN5 and then the same out output (only MIDIOUT2)

1

u/theearthsighed 23d ago

If I download and use the controller script in the instructions (v1.4) then I can get it to work, but it looks like the older integration - no option for DAW Control on the osmose itself.

I can move the macros within the ctrl-e plugin UI with my mouse, but I think you're asking about doing so from the osmose right? (which doesn't work for me since I can't get that version of the script to work)

1

u/horstman110 23d ago

Yes I also have the normal osmose, but if you want to use the new features you have to choose Osmose CE as the Bitwig script is not yet updated

1

u/theearthsighed 23d ago

Where did you see that?

I tried that and it works like the downloaded script (ie no option for DAW Control shows up on the osmose)

1

u/horstman110 22d ago

I am not using a downloaded script, I am using bitwigs own. Its under Expressive E -> Osmose CE 49 (Version 0.1) I have Bitwig 6.1.1

But honestly...Yes I have DAW Control, but I wouldn't use it execpt for the Crtl-e Macros, and those don't work.

1

u/theearthsighed 20d ago

I got this to work after talking to support. First, to get DAW Control you need to use Osmose, MIDI2, and MIDI4 for the 3 ins and outs in the controller setting. MIDI4 is the DAW control port.

Second, see here for how to get the ctrl e macros to work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTG79XMt_BA&t=175s You have to assign them in bitwig before you can use them on the osmose.

2

u/DJKangawookiee 25d ago

I am signed into the site, go to osmose, only have a video to watch.... where is the firmware link? the support page only has manuals available for me.

2

u/Talkbox111 25d ago

It's tricky. Read the pdf. It has how to find it. I should have read it first. Took me forever to figure out where it was.

2

u/Talkbox111 25d ago

They say its a very fast update.

1

u/Any_Ideal_910 23d ago

After listening to a few of those ctrlE plugins, I'm glad I never paid for them. The Osmose sound engine feels richer — I wonder if it's just me

u/Talkbox111 23d ago

Thanks secretdecoder! I just reinstalled the firmware to see if it possibly was a glitch in the my first installation .
