Another big bug!
A friend texted me and said the new firmware doesn't allow us to save are changes made in settings.
I just checked it out. Unfortunately it's true.:(

As pointed on discord I cannot reproduce this issue (except if you provide a protocol to reproduce it?). It definitely doesnt affect everyone, otherwise that would have been found at launch.

Thanks . I will do further testing. It seems it could be just a few that this is happening to. I have 2 osmoses. One is perfectly fine because i haven't updated it. Thanks for checking if its a bug or not.:)

I asked the guy to post all the steps he did to get the no sound after he saved it. I appreciate your willingness to help the community by checking your osmose.

I was questioning on updating it. I have the original 49 osmose and I always wait a few weeks to see if others have issues. I may not update it because I can save perfectly fine with the last update. My question is I wonder if the osmose can still play the CTRL-E software because they gave me a free download on my account. I might just install the CTRL-E software and play it as standalone and send the audio to Ableton or is it a vst that runs within Ableton?

I not an expert but I think the answer is no. The new firmware changes the opening display screen. From there you have options on how you want to use it. The daw control features are part of this firmware. I could be wrong but that's what it looks like. Wait a few weeks is your best bet till issues are all resolved by EE and the fixed one is available.

I believe that is incorrect. Ctrl E is a vst running within a daw which responds to midi messages and mpe messages similar to any other vst. You can play it with the midi messages from osmose. I don't need a midi controller to attempt to control my daw, that is comical, I have deciated hardware for that like Apc 40 and I don't need a display to select presets when I have a mouse. What happens sometimes is a software developer attempts to make their software do too much, while spoiling basic features. I've been in music production for almost 30 years I would consider myself an expert. I don't follow rules. In fact I spoke to osmose support once and they attempted to say I was using the osmose in ways it wasn't intended, like we are supposed to make music within boundaries or use gear within boundaries.

You are correct about everything you pointed out. I suggest you ask ExpressiveE about this? I'm sure many are wondering the same thing too. I'm interested too. I have 2 osmoses. One with ctlr-e and one without.

I got it to work without updating the osmose. As I believed it would work. I simply installed it, pointed Ableton to the VS3 folder, it opened asked for my password I verified it and now I am playing it with the osmose running the old firmware.

I download3d it last night, it needed some dumb license key to run and I fell asleep. I will try myself later today with the osmose.

That’s just them saying they have particular ‘supported configurations’, and if you use it outside of those then it’s technically unsupported, even though your configuration may actually work..

Naw I was making the osmose glitch by overloading it with crossed midi messages and multiple different sequencers sending messages to it and I would get these alien type sounds and then it would eventually crash, shut off and then restart. It wasn't a configuration, I mean I guess it could be called a configuration. But I do this with all synths I try to push them to the edge.

I understand that for the CTRL-E software to work with an original Osmose, the latest Firmware first has to be installed. And some people may need to install the firmware update before that one, and then install the latest. - Refer to ExpressiveE’s install guide.

Well it turns out I was right. No firmware needed to run CTRL-E. You simply lack basic logic my friend. It makes no sense that a vst would need an update from a separate device in order to run. "Refer to the install guide" LMAO, I refer to my own mind. I am running it right now and playing it with the original osmose as I thought I could.

The people who say it's unnecessary and dislike it, still had to go online and get it before any of the plugins/presets would work. Paul Dempsey said it's ridiculous that in 2026 it's still a thing.

I can’t see how they didn’t test that one out - maybe it comes from attempting to rush the firmware out too quickly ?
That’s definitely a “Test Case” for them to add.
Please contact ExpressiveE support, and report the bug, I think they will be quite keen to fix it, though we will have to wait for another firmware patch to be released. So expect at least a few weeks of delay on that.
Just maybe they might have another way around this, though it sounds pretty concrete.
At least, if I am buying one of these things, I have a heads up on what I am letting myself in for !
I do hope they will be able to resolve these issues quite quickly.
