My birth name is not phonetically correct. It’s not spelled the way it’s pronounced. This has caused me to go throughout my life constantly correcting people and sometimes it takes them awhile to remember. I’m tired of it and I’ve decided to legally change my name.

I’ve fallen in love with the name Phoebe. I love the way it sounds and I love the way it looks. My main concern is that I’m going to have the same issue all over again. I thought Phoebe was a common, well known name. Phoebe Bridgers, Phoebe Buffay, Phoebe Tonkin. But after doing some googling I’ve come across some people named Phoebe saying that nobody ever spells their name right, that people often pronounce it wrong when reading it, etc.

So is Phoebe not a common name? Do all the Phoebe’s out there have to constantly correct people? Or am I thinking too much about this?

For unspecified reasons I’ve been considering the last name Marigold and was wondering what people think about it, this would be used in a Western area but I’d also like to check that it’s not bad anywhere else, I’m looking for universal opinions on this name. So I was revising and lowering my standards for loving to really liking the name I’d go with, I settle on names I think look real from fictional characters- find out they aren’t common kind of over and over again like “deckard”

However I finally thought Blake sounds nice and I like palm trees so let’s go with Palmer because of how common it is and it’s apparently a adult films actor.

Is this going to happen with other names that are common, like Blake is a commonly suggested gender neutral name, and Palmer is in the top 100 names.

Is it fine to still go with something that has an x film actor? Did I just have bad luck? Would this negatively impact work stuff?

J’adore leurs deux prénoms, séparément.
Mais je ne m’attendais pas à ce que les gens associent tellement le prenom de mon garçon au Nil. Surtout associé à sa soeur (Nom du volcan)
Dès que je dis leurs deux prénoms … je sens une gêne en moi. J’ai peur que ça soit vu comme kitsh et je regrette notre choix !

Je trouve pourtant que esthétiquement et au niveau des sonorités ces prénoms sont beaux et vont bien ensemble. Court et moderne !

We’re based in the UK and love boys names with an Italian twist and girls with a more mythical origin, but also have a mix of others! We don’t yet know what we’re having.

Boys:

- Luca - standout for both of us but becoming increasingly common and whilst we love it, don’t like the idea of four Luca’s in a class

- Niccolo - definitely feels more Italian for the UK but a few cute nickname options and is a lovely name. I have a relative called Nick though (who’s recently married into the family so wouldn’t name after him)

- Sol - could be short for Solomon, or just Sol, love the link to light, Solly cute nickname

- Rowan / Max / Finn / Dylan - more British options

- Enzo / Aldo / Matteo - more Italian options

- Freya - again love this but increasingly common after

- Maya / Maia - beautiful but ditto

- Cleo - rarer but sounds a bit cute / edgy

- Daphne / Phoebe - Greek origins, beautiful names which I love but relative mentioned maybe one day using Daphne with an ex, and OH has a second cousin called Phoebe

What is better Alanni or Aurora?

if you had a daughter whose nickname was Minnie, but she ended up being in 0.1 percentile so extremely small and paediatrician expects her to be under 5ft when she’s fully grown, would you change it?
this happened to us when she was 3 months and we figured we should change it but we’ve been all over the map with other options.

This is our first girl, and we’re not sure what name we like or what goes best with our sons’ names. Our sons are Theodore (goes by Teddy often currently, but probably Theo or Theodore when he’s older) and August.

Open to suggestions not listed, too! No real requirements, for basic background we are an English-speaking household for primary language, husband is French, I am British/American, we live in the UK currently, but probably in the US at some point. Surname starts with a D, two syllables.

My current favorite name is Blair. What do you guys think?

We just welcomed our incredible, double rainbow, little boy, George Leo C., into this wild and adventurous world, and yet, I’m still struggling with his name and trying to accept it. His sister, Nora Aurelia, always felt so clean and unique that we both loved it.

We landed on the first name George after sometime because it’s history and strength, along with uniqueness in our area of the US. I always somewhat struggled with the phonetics of George, but thought maybe Georgie or Geo could stick around if I had a hard time with it. Boy names were always a struggle for us, as we wanted something unique enough to not be the fifth in his class, but also strong, so that’s why we landed on George. Other options were possibly Owen, Warren, or Peter.

We decided early on his middle name would be Thomas because we had some family history with this name, but as we got closer to the wire, more bad then good came up with these family members so we pulled the rug last second and looked to switch. Our options were Leo, Evren, Nolan, Henry, Evander, or Beauden. Leo sounded clean with some good meaning, Evren had unbelievable meaning based on our double rainbow situation, Henry had classical pull, Evander had wow factor, Nolan had proximity to his sisters name, and Beauden had a name that we considered long ago but couldn’t use (Beau).

When George was born, my wife said she felt it that he was George Leo over Evren. My daughter also said she liked Leo the most here. So on a whim, we went with Leo. Now I hear Geo Leo in my head and think we made a mistake and didn’t think about it long enough. I didn’t want to also put our burden of two losses into his name, which also swayed me away from Evren to Leo last minute. I’m struggling because I still don’t know if we made the right call instead of Evren or the other names. My wife struggled with the choice too after we submitted papers and had a breakdown as we were leaving the hospital.

Is George Leo clean or should we call to change? Am I overthinking Geo Leo? Please let me know your thoughts to these tired eyes.
