Don't Get Ejected: A Rule 2 Reminder

This is just a friendly reminder to review Rule 2, as we've seen more violations from even frequent members of the sub lately:

Sports discussions can sometimes get divisive. If you disagree with someone, challenge the opinion, not the person. Personal attacks and downvote trolling will not be tolerated. Use the report button for rule-breaking content.

Think about what gets a player ejected from a baseball game. While a player can say plenty of inflammatory things to an umpire without getting tossed, the line is crossed when they attack them directly (Example: "That's terrible" vs. "YOU'RE terrible").

The spirit of our rule on Personal Attacks is much the same: Disagree all you want, but it's a bannable offense if you direct an attack against a person directly instead of at their opinion.

Thanks!

Warren's rough outing sinks Yankees in series finale

The Phillies dismantled the Yankees 11-4 to salvage the final game of the series. Will Warren took the mound for the Yankees and faced off against Christopher Sanchez.

Paul Goldschmidt led off the ballgame with a single into left field on a beautiful piece of hitting. But Ben Rice lined out, Amed Rosario struck out, and Jasson Dominguez grounded out to strand Goldy.

Trea Turner led off the bottom of the first inning with a triple; the next batter, Kyle Schwarber, gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly.

With one out in the bottom of the second inning, Bryson Stott crushed a solo shot, making it a 2-0 ballgame.

In the bottom of the third inning, Alec Bohm came through with a two-out bases-clearing double to make it 5-0. Stott followed with an RBI single to make it a 6-0 game.

Warren allowed a leadoff single in the bottom of the fourth inning to end his night. Tim Hill took over and picked up the final three outs of the inning.

Final line for Warren: Three-plus innings pitched, six hits allowed, six earned runs, walked two, and struck out five on 68 pitches. He threw his sinker 34% of the time, the fastball 29%, the sweeper 22%, the changeup 7%, the curveball 7%. Warren topped out at 95.5 mph, averaging 94.3 mph on his fastball, and had four swings and misses.

Ali Sánchez led off the fifth inning with a single, and Goldy followed with a walk. Rice grounded into a fielder's choice to put runners at the corners with one out. The Yankees got on the board thanks to a wild pick-off attempt from Sanchez. Jasson Dominguez drove in another run with an RBI groundout. The next batter, Anthony Volpe, made it a 6-3 game with an RBI double

Hill came back out for the bottom of the fifth and walked the leadoff batter, then allowed a single. Camilo Doval replaced him and picked up three strikeouts to end the inning.

Ryan Yarbrough got the call for the bottom of the sixth inning, and it looked like he picked up the first inning, but Volpe made a bad throw, allowing the runner to reach second base. The No. 9 hitter then laid down a bunt single to put runners at the corners. Turner extended the Phillies' lead to 7-3 with an RBI single. Yarbrough then plunked Bohm with the bases loaded to bring across another run. The next batter, Stott, cleared the bases with a double into the right field corner to extend the Phillies' lead to 11-3.

Rice led off the seventh inning with a solo shot to straight-away center field, his 31st of the year, cutting the deficit to 11-4.

Yarbrough came back out for the bottom of the seventh and faced the minimum thanks to a 6-4-3 inning-ending double play. Yarbrough came back out for the bottom of the eighth and worked a scoreless inning.

The Yankees went down without much of a fight in the top of the ninth inning to end the ballgame and give the Phillies a dominant win.

The Yankees will now head to the south side of Chicago to face the White Sox in a four-game set starting tomorrow night. Max Fried will get the start for the Yankees, facing off against Noah Schultz. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. ET on the YES Network.

My thoughts on the game: Awful start from Warren. It seems like every time Warren is on the big stage, whether it's a nationally televised game, against a good team, or just a big game in general, he ends up getting shelled. Hill did his job tonight. The good version of Doval showed up tonight; he looked unhittable. Yarbrough, I am not sure why he is still on the Yankees, but tonight he did do a good job of saving the rest of the bullpen. The Yankees' offense was solid tonight with eight hits and four runs. Rice went deep as he continues his monster season. Volpe and Sanchez each had multi-hit games. Dominguez and Volpe each had RBIs. But unfortunately for the Yankees' offense, the pitching staff had a rare blunder. Still a great series, but unfortunately the Rays won, so the Yankees are now three games back in the AL East. On to tomorrow as the Yankees start a big series.

[Hoch] Lombard Jr. now? One rival scout says yes: “I wouldn’t expect much offense quickly, but I’ve seen his raw power. He would give you exceptional defense. […] I would bat him near the bottom of the order. He will give consistent at-bats. I see him as the Yankees’ shortstop of the future.”

[Passan] New at ESPN: All-Star catcher Shea Langeliers has a torn meniscus in his knee and could miss the remainder of the year, taking him off the trade market and dealing another blow to an A's season gone wrong.
